Note to self: turquoise is a bad color choice.

Man. I need some encouragement here folks. I had a good, working nickel coil going for a couple days, but when the tank was dry (BONE dry, thanks to temp limiting) I decided it was time for a new flavor.

What was in there before (Banaberry Dream from ITCVapes) was good but I was tired of it. Burned out on banana. So I disassembled the Lemo Drop and rinsed everything (except for the wick and coil, which remained untouched and in perfect condition to my eyes) in super hot water. Reassembled and refilled.

I was good-to-go for about an hour; now I'm hitting my temp limit within a few seconds and the vape is super weak. Obviously I need to rewick and check that coil.

But I don't wanna! I'm lazy. And I'm sore in the gut from ongoing, persistent problems. But this is gonna gnaw at me until I get it right, so I know in the end (possibly within the next few hours) I'll do it anyway.

I guess I needed to make this post to convince myself that it's worth the hassle. I know I can always just slap a friggin' kanthal coil in there and job's a good 'un, but I really LIKE using the temp limiting. The geek in me is strong, and insists I use all the features of this expensive device.

1st world problems. I know. No no, I don't need your sympathy. But I'll take it anyway. ;)

Thanks cj, just checked it and it's rock solid and making good connection. My ohms are stable (settled down to 0.15 from 0.18 initially) I think I've just got a wick problem; the coil isn't getting enough juice so it's getting too warm, too fast, and the temp limiting is doing it's job, throttling back the power to prevent a dry hit. Thanks though!

Grin. Turns out my FT A Had a missing Oring right under the juice deck (#18)

Anyways, built that girl up. On my 100vg juice, twisted 30ga Ni200, 7/64 bit, initial reading at 0.21 ohm

Only thing is... I screwed up the assembly and have a random grub nut (#13) just chilling outside on my wash bowl hahahahaha crap.

Same thing is happening to me with the Lemo. Everything was good- now all of a sudden I'm hitting temp limit.
I already did the o-ring fix (just for the hell of it). I don't feel like taking anything apart right now so I'll just switch toppers for the time being.

Why do you guys think hitting temp protection is a bad thing?

It isn't when it is objectively supposed to hit temp protection.

I think the issue is more with connection issues causing the mod to think it has reached a certain temp (when it in fact hasn't), and thus prematurely throttling the power output, giving a poor weak vape

I get that point, no doubt. I'm just wondering if everyone is trying to figure out why by simply checking all that they can before thinking it's not working the way it should!!

Because too many times it's come out of nowhere. Why is it hitting temp protection when nothing has changed? I've got other devices so I'm not using the VS exclusively. If I put it down for an hr & come back it shouldn't be hitting temp protection.

Also, this is my first rDNA so maybe it's doing what it's supposed to do at random times & it makes no sense to me.

yeah, been trying some twisted 28g nickel builds today, keep ending up at like .09 or 0.1, and hits temp protection at 400-450 within 2-3 seconds of firing it. i dont know exactly how it works, but i even suck in air real hard and fast to help cool down the wire and still no difference and barely any vapor production, vapor production is like that of the old stick style batts running on pure pg . not sure what im doing wrong but im going to try to get a higher resistance coil int here. only tried/built two so far. both coils i have just done normal squished coils like kanthal wraps, havent tried the spaced out type yet.

For me there is nothing "random" about the DNA40. There are things I have not yet mastered or understood; but I am out of the stage of blaming the device. Which reminds me of the days when folk were first getting used to Destop Computing. "I didn't do THAT! The machine is CRAZY", people complained. Those early Desktops were inanimate objects just as the new DNA board is. As a trainer and consultant, back then, the first hurdle I had to teach was: "Machines do not think; they are not out to get you."

That is not to say I don't have feelings about the device. Reminds me of Rossum's avatar. Translation: "How I learned to live with and love the Bomb (quoting the film, Doctor Strangelove).

More practically speaking, I have had a PERFECT build in my Lemo (0.13, vapor and flavor superb). Today, for the first time in a week the resistance shot up to 0.16. (Get the feelings?) I put the VS in my pocket, went about my business, and, when I next looked the resistance was back down to 0.13 where it has stayed for the past eight (8) HOURS.

I need to rewick to change flavors...should I be concerned? Hell no!!

ETA: Gonna begin mastery of the K4 with Ni200 tomorrow or Wednesday... :D

Whoa! I tried it just now. Set to celcius then off with wattage set at 5 and it seemed to fire a lot stronger and burnt my wick...

I set it back to fahrenheit then off and also at 5 watts and it hit very very low barely any vape just as it should at that low watt...

Tried it again by going celcius and off at 5 watts and it really fired so much stronger even though it was displaying 5 watts...

I guess thats one confirmation for you... My wick is completely burnt and im gonna rewick now...
Did you lower the temp setting when in Celsius mode? Cos 400 F is only like around 200 C..

Kiwi, would you mind sharing what temperature limit and watts you use your kayfun, erl and mini when using twisted 30g coils.
