"Health Canada has assessed these products and determined that they pose a potentially serious health risk to consumers."

Really? What means did they use to 'assess' these products? Where is their data? I'd like to see their side-by-side comparison to every other nicotine-delivery service, including cumbustible cigarettes (analogs), that currently has 'market authorization' and then explain their rationale as to why consumers are not able to make their own determination/risk assessment for using these products.

Seriously, as a consumer, why can I not just sign a waiver and then be able to purchase and use these products at my own risk?

I wonder what their response would be if you responded with a letter stating how what they're accusing you of is wrong and they're bending the laws to fit their own agenda... citing specific examples in the laws that pertain to the use of nicotine, and how the import and sales of hardware doesn't automatically prove intent, etc.

Man these ...... sure are full of themselves.

Sigh... I wrote this once and lost it. :(

Dear Health Canada;

It has come to our attention that you have been harassing the users of e-cigarettes in Canada by attempting to stop them from purchasing them in contravention of the Constitution of Canada and the Charter of rights and freedoms, section 7 and section 8.

The users of these products has assessed Health Canada's actions and determined they pose a potentially serious health risk to the people of Canada. A public advisory regarding Health Canada's actions will soon be released.

In our efforts to protect the people of Canada from Health Canada's potentially damaging and unsafe policies we must request that you cease your attempted harassment immediately.

This letter is intended to bring this matter to your immediate attention so appropriate steps may be taken by your agency. The people of Canada request that you confirm by April 20, 2011 the steps you will be taking to cease the damaging and unsafe polices. A written reply to all that you have harassed or attempted to harass will suffice.

We look forward to hearing from you regarding this matter.

Yours truly
Canadian citizens

Not as good as my original one that i wrote but I would love to send it or something like it to them.

Do you think these doctors, and other health care providers we all might know, might be wiling to sign a doctors (specific) petition in favor of allowing the use and sale of e-cigs? If so, their knowledge may carry weight enough to open some doors, and ears. I know my doctor would because he's gotten supplies for his wife from me.

For what it's worth gadelson, the American Association of Public Health Physicians wrote a fairly favourable 2-page letter, intended for legislators, in April 2010 (though their third point about vaping in non-smoking areas was a bit stupid & based more on 'appearances' than science).

Of course, a lot has happened since April 2010 too - independent, objective studies have been released that scientifically, clinically prove that vaping via e-cigs is at least 1000 times safer than tobacco smoking. The FDA has also since utterly lost their case against vaping, and now ponders its final option (asking the Supreme Court to hear a case that every other level of court has already unanimously ruled against the FDA on...with a unanimous vote each & every time).

Anyway, the AAPHP letter used to be here, but the link doesn't seem to work anymore:

But you can read the same document here now:

Hi Rachelcoffe!

I know that research and facts to date fall on the deaf ears of e-cig opponents, no matter how factual and logical they may be. Part of our struggle is also that negative public perception is a huge hurdle. So I wonder if it's possible to sway public opinion, and if so, how? I guess I'm thinking on a slightly more localized "grassroots" approach to being heard about the strengths rather than the limitations of e-cigs. In my limited knowledge of how to organize, and my belief that "all politics are local", I wonder if it would be feasible or beneficial to start collecting signatures of doctors and health care providers, and take them to a local politician or civil liberties association to see if we can get the attention of and support of, someone in a position to help us. It's something I'm moving forward with here in Vancouver, but I'm just one vaper trying to keep the ball rolling in some small way.

Hi, guys,

Just to let you know, we are monitoring these threads, and plotting on your behalf, and will soon be offering some direct assistance to a group of your vendors in Canada who have approached us for help. We have been able to make enormous progress here in the UK with ECITA Ltd, and hope to be able to help you too.

Hang in there, guys. Hopefully, help is on the way.

Cheers,

My Doctor supports that I quit smoking and knows I vape. OTOH she is on the fence as a medical professional wrt the inherent safety of vaping. There is absolutely nothing wrong with her position. As a physician I have complete trust in her judgment, diagnosis and recommended course of treatment. Because she is a "professional" she is cautious. She has researched it and there are far to many unknowns and unanswered questions for her to make an educated comment. I am sure she is not the only one that occupies this position. Right wrong I support her position as a physician. We may not always hear what we want to hear, but more often than not we hear what we need to hear.

Hoo Yah Katherine!! I am so happy that I found that interview you gave which lead me to the ECITA website.

I can't even begin to tell you how happy I was when I wrote you that email asking if you could help us Canadians and you actually answered.

I was thrilled to post that email here so that word would get to the people who needed it.

I'm over the moon that your plotting and that help is on the way.

Thank you.
