As one who is also in love with these, I'm wondering how long the coil and wick lasted for you? I just started with the Mini VN's 2 weeks ago and soon will be recoiling/wicking.

It kind of depends. Some a week, some two weeks. I've tried the dry burn thing with no success.

I've been using my vivi novas since the original introduction.....and have only replaced one head (got 10 of them between the mini and regular). I do clean them often.....every tank or two, and do a quick dry burn. Maybe because I don't use high voltage....rarely go over 4.0???
Most of my heads are still going strong after 2 months....

So I bought another set from GV thinking that my issue about the head not being squared up with the top piece might have been a fluke or I messed something up, but I'm getting the same thing. My 510 connection on my provari looks center but the positive post on my vivi nova is off center with the top cap. This causes one or two things, either part of the head gasket will pop through the hole or the opening from the head will be blocked, about 2/3 of it. I'm getting dry hits and I have no idea how to fix this. I'll try to take pictures of it later today but if anyone has had the same problem please let me know what you did you fix it.

Make certain that you are keeping it tilted enough to keep the juice up close to the head so the wicks stay wet

When you do the quick dry burn, do you do it while the coil and wicks are still damp from rinsing it out? I stay between 3.4 and 4.3 volts generally.

Nope... that is why it is called a "dry" burn. If you do start while it is still damp, the moisture would need to evaporate before it could start to burn off the caramelized gunk on the coil.

I tried that -- held the button down about two seconds until the coil turned red, then blew off the ash. The wicks burnt. That's why I was wondering if it would be better to have them damp.

These are made with silica wicks ( glass aka fiberglass ) and it doesn't burn except at temperatures that are much higher than what the wire can reach... If you rebuild with cotton or other natural materials, that would burn and because of that can't be dry burned. Any color you see on a silica wick is probably just residue from the juices that were vaporized and have stained the silica.

Makes sense. Then maybe my coils were still burnt and needed more dry burning? I still got that nasty burnt taste. Also, after rinsing, I have had wicks just disintegrate, falling off in thin strings. I am reading about rebuilding coils/wicks, but chances are, I will never get around to doing it.

Sandy.......I have several heads that I rotate around on my one vivi, so I usually rinse it really well under running tap water and put it in a bowl that is lined with paper towel that I always have sitting near the sink. Later when it's dry, I'll dry burn in about 4 second bursts til the coil glows really well several times and I can see each coil glowing. Then I rinse it well again, to get off any gunk from the dry burn, put it back on the vivi while still wet (if that's the one I want to use at that point) and fill it up. Does it taste burnt after you dry burn? I usually dry burn after about 3 tanks. Mine have lasted easily a couple months, and still going.

Silica is glass and as such it is brittle and can break off as you mentioned... they aren't extremely brittle, just enough that it is normal to have some break off.

Ok... I'm going to mention things I think ( based on your post count ) you already know... just so nothing is missed.

Top coil CE type carto's and tanks require that the device is kept tilted in order to keep the wicks wet. I keep mine tilted enough to keep the liquid up to the head where the wicks enter. This is the most common issue with new users or those only familiar with filler type carto's.

Thick juices are also more prone to "dry hitting" than thinner ones... So mostly PG juices won't have this issue as much as juices that are mostly VG ( or all VG for that matter ).

The coils should be as high as where the wicks come into the center tube... it should also be sat level with where the wicks come in. If the coil is pushed down or isn't sat level... use a bent paperclip wire or something similar to raise the coil.

Finally... too high of a voltage or wattage setting on the PV can also cause dry hits... this is partially dependent on the juice also... Certain juices will taste burnt quicker than others. It is recommended to start with the lowest voltage/wattage setting and raise it until you find the sweet spot you like the most.

This happens on a fresh tank as well as one that I have vaped on. Tilting while vaping, tilting then vaping, turning upside down and swirling and then vaping. None of it matters.

Yet that is still the most common reason that people post about this issue... if that isn't it... look at the other reasons I mentioned later.
