I will take your word for it.:D

Ah come on... where is the fun in that...

Just ball up some wire and toss it in without water first as a control test... then toss it in to a glass of water :D

For those that may be a bit dense... that really was suppose to be a dark sarcastic joke...

Oh I'm definetly a little dense. I'm also a bit thick as well, but even I got that sarcasm.

If you want to try this and want to be safest use distilled water, pure water doesnt conduct electricity ( look it up).

Distilled water IS pure water... btw. You are correct that plain ( or distilled ) water isn't a great conductor... but they do conduct better than air does. Reference Water conductivity - Lenntech

geez hasn't anybody microwaved leftover chinese food in the paper tub with the metal handle? nothing happens lol
and really even if it did get hotter having it in a glass of water should keep it about the same temp as the water.....

You know now that I think about it...NOPE the metal handle has stopped me every time. But I tilt my hat to your bravery. Or education, I suppose it could also be referred to as.:)

Most of the microwave's made today actually take having a little bit of metal inside into account... still, putting in more than say a CD-RW disk ( yes I've done that for fun )... isn't something I'd do on purpose or suggest.

Many microwave utilities, such as those used for browning meats like bacon... also instant popcorn bags actually have metal in them so they work as they do. Still.. if it isn't made with a microwave in mind, I wouldn't suggest it.

As far as I am concerned, putting metal in the microwave is on the nutty side of safe... But, then, as I often say, I'm paranoid.

I can just see this. Headline: A man blows up his microwave and ends up in the hospital - electronic cigarette responsible!

Oy-vei...

Dang, my microwave with the metal rack inside would drive you bonkers.

Man the good ol days of microwaving CDs, oh the lightning show it would put off.

There was this nsync or some boy band cd that an ex had left in my truck, I don't know if that disc was cursed or what bur the show it put off was amazing.

Oh and Briar, I'm just messin with you about the microwave, I'm completely paranoid about certain things as well, like open closet doors an such.

Oh, I know - all in good fun. :D

Though I bet you are not as paranoid as I am: I still get spooked about monsters under the bed if I am half-asleep - and my mattress is on the floor!!!

Things that childhood horror tales do to us...

Funny stuff there :) ...you can put anything metal in a microwave as long as it's not touching any part of the inside of the micro.

In the interest of maintaining some semblance of a topic here, I have been using the tanks that look just like the Vivis for 5 months. I still have and regularly use the first 2 from day 1. I did have to mod them to keep them from spewing juice, but on to my point. Cleaning and maintenance: The above mentioned tanks are basically the same exact thing as the Vivis except the Vivis are built properly, and actually work nicely right out of the box. After 3-5 tanks full, depending on juice type, I totally break down the tank top, bottom (which on old style has atty&wicks attached), and tube. Everything gets run under hot water, then dried out with paper towels. I press dry the wicks to remove as much excess water as possible. I blow the center post from the threaded end, to remove water and keep it from getting to batt in the next step. Now I attach the bottom portion to a battery, which has atty assembly built in on the old styles. Again, make sure all water is gone from air tube. Now dry burn, just as one would dry burn any atty. With the Vivis, (I've only had to clean 1 so far), I did the dry burn without the silicone and metal cap removed as the coil area gets quite hot and IMO would melt the silicone cap. This dry burn process has a couple of side effects that must be watched for and adjustments made as necessary when they occur.
1. Excessive heat build up. Because there is water in places that cant be removed w/o letting it sit for days, the areas around the coil will heat up and require a short rest period every now and then throught this process. I'm talking like 3-4 mins 2 or 3 times during the whole 20 min process.
2. Condensation build up. I have found that at least twice the atty assembly needs to be removed from the batt and the center tube needs to be blown out and the batt connection needs to be dried out.
3. Dry burn as needed until a nice white, ashy coil appears, and all wraps can be seen. Take your time here, until you acquire "the touch" for this, be prepared to spend some time on this step depending on how gunked up your coil is.
Advanced users. If you are well versed at dry burning and quite comfortable with this process and know how to do it and what to look for, meaning the signs of completion, and signs of a coil getting to the point of overdoing it. I have found from other members that a pulsing action of the fire button, while blowing on the coil helps move things along and gets better results faster. This principle is that a constant well regulated current supply to the coil, in conjunction with a cool breeze, to help balance out the heat will cut the burn time in half. CAUTION, do this at your own risk. This is the easiest way to pop a coil, as finding the balance between heat and breeze to cool it off while applying constant heat, is a fine line. I have never popped a coil doing this but the first 10 times I attempted this method I spent like an hour doing it being overly carefull. I have not read this whole thread so if this has been explained in detail like this already, well what can I say. My bad. (no pun intended)
After putting a tank thru this process, I have found them to be like new. and as I said b4 I have a few tanks that are going on 5 months and still perform like they are new. Now that we have the ability to rebuild the Vivis and they dont need modification to operate properly I will stop going thru this whole song and dance and I will just install a new coil and wick. I posted this procedure for those of you who have expressed no interest in rebuilding the heads. Also to Firmly grasp the thread back from the microwave theives. Me included.

LOL. I just soak in hot water myself, vodka if needed, let dry, dry burn - just like I do with stardusts. I'll throw them when this doesn't work anymore. If they're like the stardusts, that'll be in a few months.

I like fiddler over modder or tinkerer......

Edit: The LOL was for the microwave discussion. Not laughing at you kwalka - nice detailed post - thank you
