I've read about boiling them, but how does the rubber piece between the positive post and ground make out after boiling?

I'd like to know that as well, I've never boiled mine as I worry about that disintegrating over time.

I use the alcohol soak, boil in Distilled Water, blot, and dry burn. Lol A bit of over-kill, I'm Sure!

It doesn't appear to affect the seal. I have taken them apart and rebuilt them and there is no difference in the seal.

I have boiled ce3s with the tube attached and had no problems. OTOH it didn't seem to help clean the ce3s any better.

That's interesting indeed, I may try it out with one of my old ones now that I have 12 extra heads. My oldest is pretty messed up looking, works fine, but could do with an extra special cleaning.

I cycle the rinsing / dryburn thing 3 times ... then install new wicks with coils, takes all of 5 min. per head.
Plus they vape even better because you don't have an uneven twisted factory coil anymore.

One thing I noticed... I don't think you need to really crank the plastic housing onto the lower and upper pieces ... My son cranked his down and his seems to leak a little. when you put too much pressure on the silicone seals it deforms. Just snug it really good no need to tighten so much you need a tool to get the ends off. let the seal do its job.

I have watched it before, it does seem like a pretty easy process. Are the stock coils made of nichrome wire? Is there an advantage to kanthal?

Nichrome provides more than twice the resistance per equal length than Kanthal. It makes it nearly impossible to get your resistance below 4.0ohms on a Vivi Nova. Most rebuiders use Kanthal. You can get Kanthal on Ebay or Amazon or Mountain Oak Vapors and probably VaporCloud and some other places.

Thanks for the clarification. My next question- is it difficult to get a 3 ohm resistance with Kanthal? Not a big deal, that's just the resistance I'm accustomed to so its kind of a baseline for me.

(Kanthal) 5 wraps almost always make 2 ohms, Id say add one or two more and you would get pretty close to 3.
BTW ... I picked up 200ft of kanthal on Ebay for $12 shipped. (a lot of coils)

I just looked at Mountain Oak, and even at their prices, I can see a huge savings from rebuilding these. I'm officially convinced.

Kinda. I wrap about six times and get about 2.0ohms. You could wrap some more to increase the resistance but it gets cumbersome fitting all that into the head without crossing the wires or bumping up to the sides. You could also have larger coils but then the wicks tend to slide around. If you have a variable voltage battery then resistance is less of a factor. Some of mine check in at 1.7ohms and they work just fine.

About 16.6 cents per rebuild (beats the hell out of $3). Got to get yourself some wick too. I didn't care for Mountain Oak wicking (not to mention it was expensive). I bought my wick at Carolina Vapes (1.5mm glassfibre). You can use all kinds of wicking material. I stay with what the Nova's came with. Everything else is noise to me (and I tried other stuff).

I use a provari, so its a very minor consideration. I have a feeling I can get pretty close to 3 without too much difficulty.

E-Bay is definitely cheaper. I just have nothing but problems with their PayPal system so I give up on them unless I can communicate direct with the seller and use my credit card. To me, the extra cost buying from MOV for a 15 year supply versus a 200 year supply from E-Bay wasn't an issue for me. But, that's just me.

You probably could with some extra motivation. But you can always be lazy and not worry too (my preferred method). Some people double the legs (fold them over and twist them). I find that lowers resistance. But I think that is done more to prevent the rubber grommet from burning. That has never been an issue for me using single strand legs.

I'm with you on that. I'll have to check out Carolina.

It's like a buck for two feet at Carolina Vapes. May as well get five packs for that price. And might want to shop around and take a look at some of her other stuff too so you can cover your shipping costs (if you need anything else).
