You folks are putting your unflavored concentrated Nic liquid in the freezer ... is this really necessary?

I just bought (2ea) 500 ml bottles of 60mg PG Nic from RTS Vapes. This PG Nic is in those white plastic bottles you can't see through.

All I did is put them in a closed (dark) cabinet in the den.

It's going to take me a long time to go through 1000 ml of this unflavored 60mg PG since I mix my juice at 18mg.

Am I making a big mistake by not putting it in the freezer?

I am thinking this stuff will last a very long time if unopened and stored in a closed cabinet in the house ... am I wrong?

If you check some of the threads on this forum for storing nic, the consensus seems to be that properly storing it in glass bottles with little air and in the freezer will keep it in good condition for a number of years with little degrading of the nic. All of mine that is not going to be used in the next few months is in the freezer.

I have yet to see how the PG or VG effects things, but a chemical supplier said that the NIC solution they sell loses 1% of it's NIC per 2 years when refrigerated. I don't remember the temp they gave me though. Basically... it was going from let's say 90% NIC to 89.1% while in storage. So, to put that into perspective, my 10% would be expected to drop to 9%, then to 8.1% after 4 years.

I haven't looked yet, but the PG or VG are going to exhibit changes over that time as well... and they may react with the NIC byproducts and vice-versa. I'm in no way worried at this time, as I will not be keeping a bottle of NIC beyond 1 year right now. My perspective may change if worst case happens and NIC liquids are only allowed to be sold via face-to-face (as recommended by Attorney Generals) and/or if a 32%+ tax is granted (as proposed). If I can't buy online, I expect the in-store cost to be 3+ times the online price and to increase over time to pay for spoilage... and the 32% will no doubt end up being based on something besides the wholesale cost as proposed. Just another reason to tell everyone we know about CASAA and other similar organizations, and to make sure we each do our own part in effectively communicating with the officials.

I have nic from RTS Vapes at 100 mg in glass bottles for 6 months so far just in the fridge, not frozen and its still perfect. It came with a slight ''ashy'' smell and still does and its clear as water.

I notice i am vaping more with rayon than with cotton,i think it has to do with it being so good, ive loered my nic to 6mg from 12mg and i also use less flavorings.

I have some nic from Box Elder  in my freezer dated back to November 2010. It has not changed since I put it in the freezer. I have some RTS nic that I purchased in May 2013 in my freezer that I am using now. Still as clear and odor free as the day that I bought it. Maybe the OPs nic was not great to start with.

I use this method of freezing http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ttle-help-freezing-nic-juice.html#post2126610

That's what I wanted to find out... bad NIC from the start or something else.

Mind you, it's only a single bottle out of a batch that were made when OP split the original container up. If the NIC was properly shaken/mixed/etc, and the bottles were sterile, sealed, etc... then any other bottles made from the same batch and stored in the same freezer should smell/look the same. Waiting for word back on that.

I don't think we could call it 'bad nic' though, as NIC shouldn't ever smell 'fishy'... despite being alkaloid.

If there is a chemist lurking around, perhaps they could lay down the law regarding if nicotine suspended/dissolved in PG or VG (the whole mix, they type we vapers use) should ever smell fishy.

There was a problem with Alchem-sourced nic about a year ago; some people reported getting sweat sock or fishy smell/taste from it. They were using some new extraction process. I believe MFS sourced their nic for a while then dumped it because of complaints about batch inconsistency.

I bought MFS during the summer sale and specifically asked if it was the Alchem lot in email and was told no.

Exactly, The resourced nic was my issue with there NIC about 9 months ago. I've not tried there NIC since but herd the same that they went back to the original supplier which was harsher then other venders but didn't have that bad smell and chemical taste.

My oldest NIC has been stored in the freezer 18 months and I just cracked it open last week end and it was crystal clear and as fresh as when I bought it. I've read that the average shelf life of frozen NIC is 5 or more years.

I don't have any of those caps with the cone in them, just the regular caps that are flat on the inside. Those are what came with the bottles (amber glass).

When I first started freezing, I would measure exactly 30ml into the 30ml bottles, and that left a good bit of "headroom"... now I go ahead and fill the bottle to the bottom of the neck. Should I use up the ones that aren't completely full first? I had planned to anyway, since they were the earliest I stashed, but just wondering what that 4ml of headroom might do to it -- 30ml bottles actually hold 34ml to be "fully full".

I have some in the fridge too, which is what I use out of... plenty of air in those since I keep lowering the level, but so far (3 months or so storage in fridge) there is no change... still clear, no odor except that sort of "peppery" smell they started with.

I fill mine all the way to the top without touching the cap. It leaves less air to oxidize the nic with. To go even further I wrap the bottles with Saran wrap to prevent air and moisture from getting inside. For good measure, I then place the bottle inside a cardboard box partially filled with rice to absorb moisture. I use 15 ml bottles to minimize the amount I take out from the freezer. As you can tell, I protect my Nic as if it was my prized pet.
