What are your interests or crafts?

I used to make beautiful and safe gel candles and belonged to a bunch of different boards where I posted pics of my latest creations. I partnered with a gal who made soaps and we did the craft circuit for a couple of years. It got too hard on both of us eventually. That stuff is heavy and setting up, taking down, etc really wears you out. I spent more money than I made!

Now I do "fly by night" stuff as my friends call it. One hobby after another. Tried beads, macrame, stamping. My craft (crap) room is so full of stuff I can't even get in the door. My latest thrill is cactus and succulent collecting and container gardening. I have some really weird stuff I'm hoping will make it through the winter. They've become my babies!

I'm thinking about getting back into machine quilting this winter. I just have to get that room cleaned out. I know there's a Bernina in there someplace!

Since I set up a family website this week, I've been going through the old family pics to post on the website. That has made me think that it's time to get back to scrapbooking. I love doing that and it's a good way to pass down the family history.

MaryKay, that is a great idea... Let me help my daughter get past this Kimono project she is working on and I will have to pull out my Holiday ideas- LOL (from my head, that is)- I usually brainstorm as to what I will do, I love watching the latest trends but I like to come up with the "unique and unknown"- I am sketching a pattern right now... all I will say is it is pertaining to my newfound habit... LOL

I have a black thumb, I kill all plants. I love orchids and wish I wasn't such a mass murderer when it comes to plant life.

I can make a very good sugar version of a few orchids.

How do you pronounce dichroic ?

I thought I was the only one that did that! Every time I brought a plant home, my daughter would shake her head at the plant and say, "I'm sorry Plant, you're going to die soon."

Way over my head with all the talent here! From life-like dolls to engine rebuilding .. wow! I am blown away by it all.

I have always been an avid reader. Love my books. Wrote one but never really pursued marketing for it. "thoughts in motion" by sylvia - you can possibly find it on amazon.

I'm mostly a dabbler .. I've dabbled with:

Jewelry and polymer clay projects.
Acrylic and watercolor painting.
Woodwork.

Now I'm mostly into my grandson and vaping products.

And that's where dabbling comes in handy! get lots of kid friendly crafts to do with the G'boy. Mine have a big box of projects to do, from clay to painting, popsicle sticks to model planes. They used to say what work do we need to do this time G'ma?
You never can tell where their talent lies..just let them try everything! My sports minded 16 year old G'son found that cooking is his thing..the 9 year is wonderful at any art project, but excels on the computer.

Looks like this month and next are going to be busy for me. I had some crafts planned but they have changed into

6 candle baskets
15 soap/lotion baskets

4 shawls
2 afghans.
1 wrap
1 point star afghan

Started one of the afghans last night. Got One row done. But its made up of 63 2in granny squares. Times 10 rows. So that's 630 little 2in squares I'm gonna have to make for this one. And I might have to make it bigger. Its for my father in law. Who took my mom in law's tampa bay throw. So she requested this one so she can get her throw back!

The shawls wont be to hard. Except for one that was a request for dolphins. So I'll have to make up some squares with the dolphins and turn it into a shawl. With a matching afghan.

Not enough time.. LOL I stayed up and worked on the first afghan for 12 hours. And that is just one row.

Ok back to work. Lots to do!

found the perfect home for my scrappy log cabin quilt I have new neighbors that live further down the road, (that house is a curse) every family that has lived there doesn't last long.. I tried to tell him about our dirt road and that I had a professional contractor come out and shape a part of the road a certain way to insure drainage, explained to him how we would be trapped down here for weeks if I hadn't of had it done.. The new neighbor didn't like the fact that he would have to slow down to pass through it so he got another neighbor to fill it in... Now both his vehicles are sunk side by side in it, totally trapped now never mind the 5Oft pond of water and soft bottom mud.... Be another week before it might be dry enough for me to even get close to it , to try to fix it with my tractor .. after he gets his vehicles out of it.. not...

So my current quilt project will go to my long time neighbors Robert and his wife Bev for coming down from Denver to take me into town to replenish my supplies. we will have to leave them on the road and walk them in to my property... (sigh)... I love having a perfect home for a project, I work better that way ...

I break out the knitting needles once in a while and knit like crazy for a few months. Then they get packed away again. I can't say no to a good yarn sale so I'm stock piled for life. I'm not very good at sticking with one thing for very long. I take interest, learn it and then go for the grand plan of all projects for that hobby, do it and then move on. It's nice to know how to do these things though when I want to go back to it later and do something like make a wire wrapped necklace for a friend or knit a baby sweater for a newborn.

I'll always love cooking though. That one never gets boring!

I have tried knitting. I didn't make it to far as the book I had was not the best to teach me what I needed to know.

So I'm thinking after the holidays I'll research it online and go from there. I have tons of knitting needles. And am replunishing my stock of yarn. I lost a lot of my yarn due to my cats. Instead of trying to fix the mess I just tossed it all. Which was a good think because hobby lobbys yarn is a lot softer then the red heart yarn I had.

I just picked it up again two years ago, after 15 years of not doing it. With the internet and youtube to show you how to do certain stitches, it's amazingly easy! I had taught myself with books originally but some of the more complicated stitches were never in any "how to" books that I had. That's where the videos come in handy.

This is my favorite thing to make for new babies - it's knit in once piece with circular needles and I adjusted the pattern so I could make stripes

This is a bunting I did for another baby

And a throw that I made for a new Mommy. This project was huge and took forever. I don't think I'll ever knit another throw again!

Wow! Beautiful Mischiefgirl- My daughter now knits better than I do and she is 13 yrs old... I taught her... She knits all the time... equates to ... at least twice a week- I knit.... well, now, other than teaching her... If I am doing a specific project... and that will include knitting.... 10% of the time... maybe- LOL So not a lot at all, anymore-
Pronunciation of dichroic... for a PP I forgot who asked... { dye-kroyk} best I can think of sounding it out... LOL some say {di-kroyk} or...{dee-kroyk}... I guess it is one of them words/crafts that depends upon where you are from...?
I need to get my projects started... I have not quite settled on what all I am putting into this year... Christmas is my focus right now cuz Halloween got past me... For Halloween I usually do Bottles of Boos & Bottles of Spirits...
You take wine bottles or liquor bottles- I drill a small hole at the bottom backside of the bottle w/ a diamond saw blade... remove labels and make your own that represent an actual label... Bottle of Boos... and fill the cleaned/ dried bottle w/ a string of mini purple lights or orange or green (you can use what works for your design...) and make little tiny ghosts from a swatch of white fabric, polyfill, and a ribbon to tie off the head- I like to sew my ghost eyes and mouth on but some people I have seen do them w/ a marker...
lights go in first, plug out at the bottom or if you drill a too small hole- put the lights in from the bottom, light first and string them in until just the plug is hanging out, and arrange them a bit so they go from bottom to top of the bottle... I put the ghosts on a filament line so I can arrange them the way I like them to look inside the bottle... -you can't see the filament line and I can add a couple cobwebs and spider rings so it looks scarey...
It is a "Bottle of Boos" and you can use as a decoration at Halloween... really cute when lit up...
Oh wow! That is just one of the Halloween items I usually do and give out to a few teachers and friends...

Anyway, I gotta start thinking what will be gifted this year and what I am making for decoration... Also, What to help my sons class to make that will be an easy but awesome kid craft to give to their parents...

And see that is what I want to be able to do with knitting. I've just got to take the full plung into it. But Its hard between babysitting, my crafts and my business.

Like I mentioned I've tried knitting. Made some simple coasters and small things like that. They did turn out nice and still all together after 4 years. I've wondered how to make quilts and such with knitting since the thread has to stay on the needle. Googled that one the other day.
So far I've gotten one shawl finished 2 others 1/4 finished. Gonna try to get one finished today. But its baby's bath day. So I might get it almost finished by tonight.

Took me all day to finish the first shawl. Hand even cramped up at about midnight. But managed to get it done. Was the first time my hand has given me any problems. Usually its my back that starts to protest first.

Good luck with the kids crafts. They are so fun to do. My kids aren't much into doing crafts. If it doesn't involve chatting with others or spending loads of money they are not interested =(.
I was going to have them make wax dipped scented pinecones. But they just wouldn't come around to the idea.

I took up crocheting for a couple of years. Went wild with it then got burnt out.
Then I got into making yarn wreaths and got burnt out on that too.
These days I'm not doing anything.

I was wondering about other people on here doing crafts and had wanted to start a group but wasnt sure if there were others. I was making socks for soldiers for a while now I do mostly just knitting, scrapbooking, jewelry making. Anything to keep me busy here is some of the things I have pics of right now. I

Thats just a few... I just got finished making a pacman scarf for my daughter pacman on one end and pellets all the way to the other end and then a red ghost on the other end.

Nice job on the knitting! My sister and mom are really good sewers and knitters. My sister even has a quilting business. And almost all the women in my family are excellent cooks, too! I guess I never got that gene! The only thing remotely domestic I do is (or was) jewelry making, although all my stuff is sitting in my storage room.

My hobbies are golfing, building stuff, and playing video games. I've been golfing for about 3 years and am continuing to take lessons (I just had one yesterday and I'm sore ). The building stuff isn't really building anything from scratch, it's mostly putting together pre-fab furniture, mostly from Ikea. I don't know why, but it is so fun to me! I also redid my whole bedroom by myself, redid the floors, painted, and put together all the Ikea furniture. I wish I did have a shop, maybe then I could start making my own furniture one day. I also love to play and collect video games. I have a PS3, PSP, and a Wii and I like to collect old Playstation 1 games.
