I really am sorry to those that are trying to forget about smoking and hope that I don't trigger the urge to with this post, I hate it with a passion now because of the grip it had on me, but I remember how every god-darn movie and show I watched had a smoker in it and it would make me wanna jump back on the wagon (freakin hollywood, they're all sellouts :glare:).
View attachment 321016 Hey guys I thought I'd throw this pic up right off the bat, because I don't want this to look like a smoking promotion thread, it's terrible/unattractive/expensive/life-consuming/tastes terrible/and above all is unhealthy and shortens our priceless minutes we have left. BUT I think we'd all be lying to ourselves if we said there isn't some aspects we missed, otherwise we wouldn't have started in the first place! ;) Plus I think it's healthy to tell others how you really feel about it, pretending that your ignoring/hating it 100% won't do you any good unless that's how you really feel. It took me ages to quit, and I took the tiniest baby steps toward total adoption of vaping to get my nicotine (which I'm using lower mg for now), and went on and off "the wagon" for a good 6 months I think, I seriously went down by one cigarette every week if that.

I love how I don't have to go outside (especially in -40degree winters in Alaska), and better yet can enjoy my nicotine inside wherever the fun is (such as after an intimate night with the gf :thumb:, and she doesn't complain about my ashtray mouth, she actually likes that my breath smells like a tropical fruit jungle :p). And tasting that tropical fruit jungle is even better, 1 billion times better than tobacco (anyone that says tobacco tastes good has most likely killed their sense of smell and/or tastebuds, that and if your addicted to something for decades your body will get used to it ) now I can match my after dessert "smoke" to actually taste like my dessert! The biggest plus is that my health has returned, I can do all the extreme outdoor sports I want, I can smell the beautiful forest I hike through, and I actually feel GOOD in the morning now haha. Plus it's another fun hobby with awesome members like ECF to keep me from going crazy in 21st century life.

Anyway enough of rambling about me, back to the point of the thread. What were/are some of the things you really enjoyed about tobacco? Don't be bashful just speak your mind, no-one will be criticized in this thread.

-For me personally the biggest difficulty of transitioning to vaping was the nicotine consistency, I found that vaping was too smooth an onset because I was so used to cigarettes KICKING me in the head, with a huge amount of nicotine (although I didn't realize at the time that there was super high mg juices out there), and naturally when you smoke the same brand, rolled the same way, with the same amount, and the same number of cigs every-day my brain freaked out a little when I was getting a more gradual, prolonged, and smaller nicotine rush from my first aspire et-s (which didn't work as well as my current mods/rda's, wish I would've tried those first).

-Another aspect I missed at first was the different feel of the nicotine rush that cigs had, which I really theorize is due to the other BAD additives that they threw in (i've tried organic cigarettes and they weren't nearly the rush of name brands), and those extra chemicals literally give you a different feeling "high" if that makes sense, the fiberglass that they throw in allows your lungs to soak up alot more than they should (which is a scary thought now) and "opens-up" the rush feeling. Now vaping pharmaceutical grade nicotine feels just as good. I think a good way to describe how I felt at first was cigarettes were like the rush you get from a cup of coffee, you get caffeine and the cocoa bean alkaloids which also act on your brain, as opposed to caffeine pills (vaping) which have a "cleaner" but more "hollow" caffeine rush than coffee does, and the pills don't make you feel all warm inside :p.

-Another was the obligation or sometimes excuse to go outside to smoke, I've always had a "connection" with nature that I feel wrong if I go without, and taking a smoke break (especially while at work, because you had a valid excuse to ditch ) was almost like a ritual or meditation for me. Just getting away from the crazyness to go outside and have a quiet smoke while thinking about life, and social smoking with others at bars especially. I know this can be fixed by going outside like I would while smoking, but it just feels silly now that I don't have to, and since I vape all day I don't always take those little meditations because I'm not FORCED to, which is a blessing in disguise.

-Finally, and this is one I still give in too, smoking while drinking, oh god this is the hardest part as any smoker/drinker will tell you. You can't replace a good'ol fashioned tobacco cigarette when your nice and tipsy :toast:. Like I said I'll still bum one off of a buddy when the whiskey hits me, it's just heaven, and I don't know why vaping just doesn't fill that gap. But oh well it could be worse, at least I'm only smoking one every month or so, maybe even further apart. Don't get me wrong vaping feels almost as good, but I'm too clumsy when it comes to vaping while drunk, I'd probably vape my cotton before I realized my juice AND wick were gone bahaha.

-All in all, I'm glad I went through that terrible habit, because I know what I'm "missing", and more importantly I know myself better, I think I came out tougher knowing my own limitations, and addictive nature, without too many scars thank god.

I'm sincerely interested to hear what "hooked" others and whether their transition to vaping was easier than mine or not. (and you vapers that started vaping for no reason/never got addicted...shaddap)

Nothing. I don't miss anything about smoking. It's just disgusting, stinks to high hell, and you have the ashes and disgusting butts everywhere. Vaping is cleaner, smells better, you can do it almost anywhere, and there's no nasty after stuff. For me, there was no problem giving up killing myself smoking. Vaping was an immediate and complete substitution. You can replace smoking with vaping, while drinking or doing anything else. I don't miss smoking, and do not glorify the memory of it.

best regards, larry mac

There isn't anything about the actual smoking part that I miss. The ashes, etc.

But, I do miss the "obligation" to go outside on some rare occasions. Since I stopped smoking, I've rarely went out on the back deck and there is no urge to stay. When I smoked, I would see interesting bugs, etc... but not much with vaping. I don't go out side as much.

That's the only thing I'd say I miss. Of course, I can go outside anytime while vaping, so it's just my fault for not seeing the outside. :) This also translated into a small 5 minute break during work. I don't do that anymore. Maybe I should do a vape break instead...but... I'd be stuck with smokers.

Me neither, I don't smoke anymore (aside from the guilty blue moon that I get stupid drunk), and as I said in the very first part of the post, please don't take this as a glorification or promotion of smoking. I even have a picture flipping you off saying smoking sucks lol. I'm glad that you got over it so completely :D I had a hard time quitting, because I was addicted, and I had reasons why I was addicted.

I hear you brother, I oh so miss this work breaks but I can't bring myself to do it anymore. That and no-one cares if I do it inside anyway :p

There are things I miss about smoking.....that a cig had a beginning and an end....going out on the porch or deck and enjoying nature while I smoked (it's not the same with vaping)....the socializing among smokers...what someone else said about the first puff or so when you've had to go without for an unusual stretch of time....filling time with a smoke while waiting for something, i.e. while cooking dinner or waiting for a guest to arrive....

That said, there are so many good things about vaping vs. smoking that I really don't actively miss smoking 99% of the time. And being so hooked on something (47 years!!!) that I had to smoke whether I wanted to or not, or whether it tasted good or not, knowing it was harming me, watching friends/family pay the ultimate price, etc. - I NEVER want to be in that position again!!!! Ever!!!! I doubt that I could be one of those persons who can just smoke occasionally - wish I could do that - but I'm not going to press my luck. It was too hard to get free, and feels too good to be free!!

Once I discovered my first eGo ecig, I was done with smoking - easy as pie to quit. That was slightly over 6 months ago, and I've already stopped using nicotine in my eliquid. Don't miss it a bit. I'm convinced it was the other chemicals they put into tobacco that caused such an addiction....at least for me. Some people do seem to need their nicotine, I guess.

I miss smoking alongwith a Cup of Coffee/tea/Soda/Drink. Though havent tried it even once since I started vaping, though it has only been 3 weeks or so...
Three weeks is a while when you first quit :p. For me that morning cigarette was hard to give up, I think that's the only one that ever really felt good to be honest, that and the one when I drink, but I hardly ever drink now.

The only thing I miss is not being able to get more when I'm out of supplies. The convenience of being able to pull over at ANY gas station and get what you need was awesome. And with gaping it seems there is a fine line between being prepared and hoarding.

True I hadn't thought about that, it is alot more "convenient" if you put it that way. Then again, even though I go through alot of kanthal and juice, a roll of kanthal/bottle of juice will last me nearly a month before I need to get more.

-I guess a good comparison would be using a big plastic waterbottle (vaping) to disposable waterbottles (cigarettes), disposables are easier to find at any gas station/food store, cost more for the convenience, and you drink them quick because they barely hold any water. Whereas a true water bottle you have to fill up yourself at a sink, but after the initial cost you'll save dicktons of money down the road, and last alot longer because they hold more than 3 sips of water.
(Sorry for the unexpected metaphor haha, that just popped into my brain for no reason )

You get me haha, I'm glad I only smoked for 2&1/2 years since I was 19, that's impressive that you smoked for 47 years and got off nicotine completely in 1/2 of one! If I ever have the ludicrously stupid urge to have "the real thing" I buy an entire pack, take one out and leave it with the cashier just so I can't "have one more", I haven't even thought about cigs in 4 months, not even a whisper. I plan to get down to 0 nicotine soon myself, but I still like the nicotine feeling and feel so healthy I don't think I can be healthier (that's probably the addiction talking, at least I'm down to 12mg's now). I said the same thing in my post, I really do think the t-companies have found a chemical that "enhances" the actual nicotine rush itself...shady.

I've thought about the comparison of the experience too, and keep coming back to missing absolutely nothing about smoking.

For me, the vaping experience, along with all of the benefits, is a 100% comprehensive substitute for smoking.

The association with coffee, taking 'walk-away' breaks, socializing in the smoking 'lounge' (outside ;)), start of day / end of day, Pre-performance* mental prep / calming, etc etc.

* As an amateur performer (Barbershop Chorus director & quartet guy), and a professional talker / trainer / project manager, there are a lot of stress-moments. The smoke was the final act (no pun intended, but I'll take) before going on.

A few good hits on the vape are 100% the same effect as a smoke.

Health, ability to smell & TASTE (I love to eat even more now!!!) , the flavors(!) are the highlights.

I had occasion to ride in a car the other day with a smoker. Absolutely NO reaction - no urge or the slightest curiosity, no repulsion, just an idle mental observation about the familiar smell.

It's been a while (especially since I converted the other smoking Barbershoppers I hang out with :thumb: ) that I'd been that close to a burning cigarette, and wondered. Now I know those days are truly & forever in my past.

Anyone want a good deal on a batch of roll-your-own cigarettes - I have a few dozen somewhere on my workbench I'll getcha a good deal

Oh yeah, I was 43 years at 1-2 PAD, and never tried to quit, even when I did! :2cool:
