What is your opinion of the new batteries

I had this problem on a new auto, used a bit of electrical tape to reduce flow. If I understand correctly, the new batteries are designed to accommodate the new premium carts - which have a lower impedance coil, therefore burn hotter (giving better performance), but then require more air flow to cool the coil to prevent singing. The vacuum switch in the auto's was probably not redesigned however, and those switches that are slightly out of tolerance on the "stiff" side, may not be activating due to the lower vacuum pressure resulting from increased air flow through the larger battery holes. I am hoping V4L will refine the design and manufacturing tolerances to take care of the problem, but until then, I find myself using my manuals more frequently. My older autos with the smaller battery holes seem to work well, but guess what, the premium carts burn hotter.

For Adrenalynn, get out your transport phenomena and two-phase heat exchange textbooks, lets crunch some numbers :)

Well, after reading CatMommy's post about the plumbers tape, I decided to block off all the holes. Vapes soo much better, lots of flavor and very good hit now. I'm gonna get some tape tomorrow and permanently fix this little issue.

But, after reading jamvector's post, I have a question. If the new batt was made for the prem cartos cuz they burn hotter, then will blocking all the holes cause a problem for the carto?

Yes it could; keep an eye (or a finger) on the temperature. You will have better draw (not as "airy"), but limit length of draw if it starts to get hot. You may also need to let it cool down a little longer between hits. I had some older auto batts that didn't draw well on the older carts, but find the new batts work very well on the old carts. Trial and error, record your observations and sort your carts and batts accordingly.

Edit: I should point out for scientific integrity (because Adrenalynn is on this thread), that these assumptions of mine are based on a limited number of observations and my interpretation of information obtained from other threads. I can't confirm that the coil is lower impedance, and have no experimental data to confirm the hypothesis I presented earlier. It is only an educated guess, Leaford could confirm or correct me if I am wrong if he happens to catch this thread.

Will do, thx. I was a light smoker and I'm finding that I'm a light vaper. I don't chain vape nor do I take long draws. As soon as I feel a nice warm vape, I let go. I haven't had an issue yet where the carto got *hot*, just warm.

PCora: If your wife wants Auto's I don't think the carts will matter. With the large airholes, have her try it. If she can't get the batt to operate, plug one hole at a time until she's happy with the draw.

Pggy: The cart will get hotter. Keep an eye on it and switch it often if necessary.

Belle: LOL...Good Catch!

It's so refreshing to see other scientists on this board; thanks Adrenalynn for all your rational observations in threads more numerous than I can recall. You clean up and resolve a lot of the misconceptions flying around here, I hope I can help the cause once in a while. Keep up the great work, geeks of the world unite!

No, thank _you_! A questing mind always helps any cause.

You are correct that the resistance is lower, especially on the hardcaps where it's ~10%-ish down.

In order for a vacuum switch to work under the low pressures we can generate in our mouth/lungs, there has to be some airflow differential. Blocking all the entering air at the top or bottom should make it quite impossible to activate. The polar opposite problem - right?

Diminishing return. [I do need a nap - my focus is drifting... I've lost the point I was trying to make. Something about "too much of a good thing" or something. [shrug] Test, test, test before you make any changes that aren't easily undone. (So put down the tube of JB Weld... ;))

I love my autos (I have a shorty and the much-maligned regular), but after reading all the raves about the manuals I finally broke down and ordered one (reg man). Well, I have to admit, it is better at delivering consistant, perfect doses of lovely vapor without the hard labor and the sound effects of the autos. However, after about two or three minutes of using the manual, my brain started protesting, "Hey, we were supposed to have a cig, not a clarinet lesson, I'm confused, :confused:you're messing me up, ever heard of neuromuscular facilitation? This is all wrong! I want a cig!"

Neuromuscular facilitation, aka muscle memory. :pYeah. So I went back to my autos and tried the different hole-plugging methods to make them work more like my new manual. Here's what I found: plugging one hole with a toothpick works fine, so does the silicone ring (narrow) over the batt/carto seam (as long as it only covers one hole). Every time I covered more than one hole, I was back to "sucking the milkshake through a straw" and came really close to cooking one of my premium cartos.

I'm sure that there's a way to improve the draw on the autos; the new manuals are almost perfect as they are, with larger holes, especially if they are eventually all going to be used with new cartos. In the meantime, I'll probably be using both, if my brain allows me, plugging an occasional hole and waiting for the "new and improved version" of the autos. Because I really love my autos, warts and all.

Thank you all for sharing your knowledge and experience. This forum is a life saver.

I agree with OT. I have a replacement which was suppose to be a manual which instead they sent an auto . I pm'ed Val about getting a replacement and how I don't want the new auto with the larger wholes. But got 1 anyway. 4 batteries 2 SUCKS been almost a month now and I have only received an apology. Offered to send the 2 crappy batteries back for exchange or something that works but got NO answer what so ever. Talk about falling through the cracks of costumer service. And I had already waited 3 weeks for a replacement that never came even though they said they would send 1 out. I even mailed the malfunctioning 1 back the same day they where suppose to mail me the replacement. Mark never mailed me the battery like he said the first time i called nor did he send 1 after Val sent him a message to send me 1. Had to get my replacement with another order. So basically I was using 1 regular auto battery and a pt the whole 3 plus weeks till I made another order. Oh and the new UU kit I bought arrived on the 21st of january the battery started to malfunction on the 29th. That is only 8 days. Would have thought if a customer called you after 8 days of having something and it already breaking. Would help them get it taken care of RIGHT AWAY. Instead of send the wrong battery after waiting so long. Can't really rave about something when almost from the start things go wrong. Honestly I believe the best customer service comes from consistency of a product. The larger whole batteries should have been sent to ppl who do reviews first before considered to be worthy of selling. Instead now you have lots of ppl complain about how bad it is. I honestly liked the draw of the old auto's 100's times better. Also disclosure of all battery color with LED color is a must look at the complaints there to. Orange LED = GENERIC looking specially of black batteries.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble. I would try PMing this to Val or Steve again, or even calling the number on the business card. I believe Mark is on vacation. Sometimes placing a call is more reliable then emails and private messages.

Since last night, I have taken out all *plugs* and *replugged* just 3 of the holes. Still not 100%, but it is much better than with all holes unblocked. I think my vaping style varies.

I did notice that with all holes blocked I lost a good amount of vapor but the taste was perfect. And with 3 holes blocked, vapor is very good but taste has diminished but tolerable. I have to keep the battery engaged to get a good amount of taste and for the atomizer to really get going.

Gonna keep playing around with it. Don't wanna send it back as the reg size is the only size available in the purple. LOL

Ok what I have done with the larger holes where. 1 take a staple dab a bit of white glue ( all purpose school glue )$1 a bottle. And use the stable and dab it in the holes. I did it to 2 wholes and they r very easy to remove. Even when dried it holds together well and can pop out in 1 piece. Works really great I dabbed it let it dry and did it again total of 3 times. You can use just a regular box cutter to scape off the extra when its all dried. I promise you this works and it easy to remove and reapply.
