What's the (continuing) attraction of mechanical mods?

Steve is a lot of things. I wouldn't consider racist one of them. I think you took his comment the wrong way.

Maybe not racist, but definitely typical for an elitist.

I've got an Hcigar and authentic Kayfun. If I covered the logos on both I would be willing to bet that good old Steve couldn't tell one from the other. In fact I could play mix-n-match and build two tanks using a mixture of parts from each, and I'm positive neither he nor you could tell me which parts belong to which tank. And for the record, I've seen some pretty shoddy American made products in the vaping world.

More importantly, I have a drawer full of tube mods that I don't use anymore but I still use a bunch of mechs. They all have 6ml juice bottles on board. Yay REO.

My ladies are all Czech, but I have a date set up with a lovely blonde Slovak...

Oh boy, another 'why mech mods??' thread. I spot one every few weeks, and they always make me smile.
I've got a few mechanical mods, and up until recently have used them exclusively. The best one I have by far is the first one I bought - the Sentinel M16 clone by HCigar. It has very little voltage drop due to the silver plated copper contacts, and is incredibly sturdy and easy to care for. To answer the question posed in the OP, I like mechs because they give an entirely different experience than regulated mods. As your battery drains, the voltage output drops steadily lower. This is great for complex juice flavors, as the change in voltage brings out different flavors along the way. And, personally, I find the aesthetics of mechanical mods to be very attractive, generally.
Granted, the mechanical mod is not for everyone. They require some homework and patience. There's a learning curve, and some people might not have the time or intellect to learn all there is to know in order to use them safely. They're perfectly safe as long as you know what you're doing and are willing to accept the responsibility for that safety, as it's all on the user rather than the device. But that's the great thing about vaping; there are a myriad of options for every style.

Don't misunderstand me....there is some serious junk made in the USA that is passed off as high end authentic. By the same token, the SX Mini out of China is one of the most rock solid, reliable mods I've ever used. The tobeco and Infinite Kayfun 4 clones are as good as the authentics and the Orchid clones by tobeco blow the authentic Orchids out of the water. I'm not the least bit anti clone...nor am I pro authentic. I really don't care what anyone uses...nor do I care what strangers think of my gear. I have a bunch of authentic gear and I have a bunch of clones. I do a lot of research before I buy, these days. There's some things I'd never buy a clone of...like a REO. It's because I've gotten to know Rob pretty well over the years. His stuff isn't ridiculously high priced to begin with. I wouldn't but a ProVari clone....even if I still used ProVaris. Would I buy a Kayfun clone...absolutely.
My point wasn't that Steve was right...my point was that calling someone a racist is pretty extreme when he just doesn't want to buy Chinese gear.

Funny, I have a pair of Chi You mods, and for the life of me I can no longer tell you which parts came from Mojo, and which are HCigar clone parts.
I'm with you...I have some Nemesis mods that I know are clones because the buttons work flawlessly. hahaha

There are plenty of junky mods not made in China, but for me to consider one to be of high quality, ones made in China are excluded, do to common PRC manufacturing practices...

With the exception of Nikola, I exclusively date blondes, as well...
If you yell her name from a mountain top, your cough will go away!

You obviously don't apply this same standard to other products, such as the computer you are using to post this.

My MacPro was assembled in Texas, but there are cases where there are no other options- like most iProducts. When there is a choice, I do not buy PRC made things...

if he would have said that he didn't bought any Chinese mods that would be just his point of view and it's ok, but to say that there is no quality in mods just because they are made in china that is a bit of racist
