What's the (continuing) attraction of mechanical mods?

Wow, 0.09! That certainly gives me a good example of why people like mech mods.

I think you misunderstand.

Any mech mod will fire a 0.00000000 ohm load.

No, I think you misunderstand me :) I know that the mech mod will fire any ohm load - that was my whole point. Mech mods will fire any ohm load, whereas regulated mods will not.

Hence why people like mech mods, because it can fire a 0.09 (for example) where there are no regulated mods that can do below 0.10 (to my knowledge), and most can't do below 0.2.

The mech mod will, but the battery won't .... at least not for long.

I feel I should add to this post because puting kicks in Kato Squares is not that well known and this is the new members forum.

Kato Squares have room for a kick under the 510. You end up with some, but not all, protections and regulation in a compact package. I take no credit for this idea. Here's how it's done:

Kato 18650 Kick - Album on Imgur

Here's the Chi You top cap:

gph61 Hi, would you comment and add your link for adding a kick mod to the Kato Box thread, that would be cool and helpful-thanks

Oh; ok, so the "WOW 0.09!!!" was just pretending to be surprised; or maybe it was more than just a pretense.

It wasn't sarcasm, if that's what you mean? :)

It wasn't pretend at all - I had literally never heard of anyone vaping below 0.1 before! I've not been around long (6 weeks), and as per my OP I've never messed with mechs. So 0.09 seemed really, really low to me - I had thought people tended to stop around 0.15 or so.

Also, 0.09 at 4.2V is 46.67 amps and that's way higher than any battery I'd yet heard of - I just Googled and I see there are 50 amp 26650 batteries. I've not yet investigated anything to do with 26650s.

So far all my vaping, and all my research on vaping, has been on/about regulated mods. And pretty much every Youtube reviewer I watch is using regulated in their videos - I've not tended to watch their older videos much, not yet at least.

Hence this thread really! It's a new area for me that I know next to nothing about and was interested to discover more about.

I love my mechanical mods. I like the small form factor that I get with 18350 batteries - regulated mods tend to be taller as they need to include electronics. I love the simplicity of mechanical mods. I typically use 1.3ohm coils and my wattage range is between 10.5W - 13.5W; I vape for flavor, not clouds, and I don't need a 30W, 50W, or 100W regulated mod. Regulated mods, like most pieces of consumer electronics, will eventually fail and I buy mechanical mods for longevity (and to survive a possible vapocolypse). I agree that mechanical mods don't have they safety features offered by regulated mods, but I'm careful with my builds (I build and test them on a Provari first) and I regularly measure the resistance of my builds and charge level of my batteries and take great care to vape safely. I have nothing against regulated mods, they're just not for me. Whether it's 2015 or 2050 I plan to continue to use my beloved mechanical mods, whether or not someone believes they're outdated.

There are a lot of dual battery box mechs nowadays

Mech mods were great back in the day. The Mako - the Megalodon. But nowadays you can vape just as well and much more safely with a regulated mod. Why risk it?

I have both. That being said having a mech is a reliable way to vape. My VV/VW devices while I enjoy them have had a myriad of issues. I don't feel that someone metering their builds and using good batteries is being unsafe. I am building around 1.0 ohm for my Erlkoenigin. I already did the Reos, chalice, magma,Nuppin, etc. and found my happy place. I like knowing if my electronic vape stops working that I can still vape. Primary for me is a trustable way to stay off the stinkies.

I love my mechs b'coz of their wow factor! Like you rightly stated - they come sleek, small and drop-dead gorgeous. There's indeed something about them - thus most of my mechs mesmerizes me! Each one is unique, each one is classy, each one speaks something different to me!

I like my VWs too ~ but even while carrying one of them a trusted mech always accompanies it. Note the word 'trusted'!

There you go. Switch problems on every authentic mod you named. It wasn't even hard to find.

I'm going to say that like most people who drop a ton of money on authentic mech mods you believe that because they cost more they must be better. I've got a friend with an authentic Nemesis and I've got the Hcigar clone. Guess which one of us has had the fewest button problems... I'll give you a hint, he now owns the Hcigar clone too.

I do so love the "I spent more so mine is better" attitude. I'll bet you're the type of person who would buy an Acura and actually believe you have a better car than a Honda.

I'm not saying that it's impossible to find problems with authentic mechanical mods (whether in the design or in the quality of a particular piece), but it you understood the original post that you linked to you would have seen that it was a problem with the atomizer, not the switch on the mod (which is actually what the original poster was talking about) and if you had read the next page, you would have seen that the problem was that there was oxidation on the atomizer's center pin and it needed to be cleaned - the same thing happens regularly to the positive battery contact on my Provari v2 (a regulated mod).

The ONLY risk with mech mods is "uneducated" Vapers that can't grasp "BASIC" concepts, but still feel the need to chase clouds.

Whatever happened to people who wanted a cheap way to quit smoking? This has become a joke, blowing clouds, why is it everything has to go to the extreme. This will be the downfall of the vaping community.

Don't overreact, please. The only downfall that could occur is when one style of vaper gets so cross about another style of vaper that they cancel themselves out.

This is called stupidity imho. :)
