Lack of sleep must be in the air. Hubby and I have both been sleeping terribly this week. He got some relief with Tylenol PM last night. That's good 'cause he's a BEAR when he gets less than 6 hrs.

Waiting on the rain that is supposed to be coming in today. Guess I'll get some work done inside this evening.

Yup, it's been slow around here. The weather around here has been gorgeous. I decided to get my weed whacker running (a string issue a a couple years ago) and bought one of those new fangled, high tech blade sets to replace the string. What a fiasco. When I went to start it I found the fuel lines had rotted out. Went to home depot and they only had kits that didn't have enough line to replace part of what was rotted. Three stops later I found the additional fuel line. Rebuild the Weed eater and fired it up, just like new. Went to put on the new blades and found they didn't supply a bolt the right size for my Ryobi so another trip to HD is on schedule for tomorrow.

This reminds me why I hate to fix anything. Perhaps after the third trip, I'll be back in business. If I didn't mind having neighbors all around me, I'd live in town where stores are convenient.

Good morning. Sometimes it's like that roth. I had a machine the other day that I had ordered some brushes for and when they came in one of them was broken. I had to reorder and wait two more days for the new ones to come in. In a perfect world I'd have every part here to fix every machine that comes in but unfortunately it doesn't work like that. Even if I had unlimited resources and stocked every part there would still be something I ran out of.

I have to go out on a service call in an hour or so and am dreading it. It was 78 when I pulled out of the garage this morning and is supposed to get over 100 today. Most of the shops I go to are not only not air conditioned but usually have very little airflow for some reason. I would guess that it's so they don't lose their shielding gas when welding.

Hitt, that's weather coming to a house in my neighborhood tomorrow. I'm dreading it with no air but that's life.

No luck on the bolt but I have a couple leads so perhaps in the future. I picked up a new Echo, just in case I couldn't get the old spool working but I threw it back together and it took care of my immediate needs so the Echo will go back to HD and return it for a new rake since mine broke in cleanup, always something. Returned Echo- expensive, New rake-cheap, trips to HD-priceless.

Well my service call ended up being a piece of cake. I was there less than an hour. It appeared that they just didn't know how to set it up correctly. Anyway, they were happy when I left and I think they'll be a return customer. They had been using one of our competitors.

Roth years ago I started using rechargeable trimmers and blowers for my lawn. I have never had a very big lawn at either house so they have done a fine job for me and I don't have to mess with mixing gas and oil and deal with the engine problems. Just charge the battery and go. I saw the other day at lowes that they have 36v units with lithium batteries now. I may go with that the next time. The batteries on the 18v units like I have only last three or four years. The batteries are almost always more than a new trimmer so I get a new one every few years.

 They talk about 3.7 volt lithiums exploding, I wonder what one of those babies would do?

Changed my mind on the trimmer. I found a video on the Echo that showed taking the head off. I was able to install the brush head I bought on it so now I have my old one (16+ years old) and the new one. That should keep me till I don't need one anymore and I don't need to change heads depending on need.

Yup, that sucker has takin' a lickin' and kept on tickin'. I think Ryobi was bought out Homelite or someone who owns them some years ago. At least they seemed to disappear for awhile and now they look like Homelites. I decided to stay away from them. As I said though, I let it sit for a couple of years and that didn't do the fuel lines any favor.

I had an old Sears blower for 15 years after my dad gave it to me when he couldn't get it started anymore. I generally suck at motors/engines/mechanical stuff. I don't know quite how I got it running, it had to be at least 10 years old when I got it. Once I had it running though, I never had a problem until the pull chord ripped. I couldn't figure out how to get into it to change it so I took it to a repair shop. It had to be totally ripped down and wasn't worth fixing so I got a new one.

Tomorrow I'm going to try to do some chain saw damage on the fallen trees finally unless it gets too hot too early.

Good morning. I have never had much luck with gas powered trimmers. It always seemed like they would work fine the first year I bought them but then would never run right after that. I do have a 1976 lawnboy snowblower that my brother in law picked up at a yard sale. I took it to a guy I know and had him go thru the carb and replace the fuel lines and it's run fine ever since then.

It's going to be another scorcher here today they are calling for 102. I think we've had one decent rain in the past three or four weeks. I hate to imagine what it's doing to the farmer's crops.

Looking at my schedule today, it became obvious that the next 3 weekends are shot. I'm working every Saturday or Sunday through the 21st. :glare: Guess the work on the barn will have to wait. Better than being bored, I guess.

Hope everyone is staying out of the crazy heat.

FC, I don't envy you. I sure hope you're in A/C although you should be cooler than around here. I'm just glad I'm not getting blasted as hard as Hitt has been. I had the HVAC guy out today and it's going to be a 3 week wait. I decided to bite the bullet and replace both the furnace and the A/C. The more I thought about it, did I want to be concerned about the heater going bad after just replacing the A/C that sits on top of the old furnace. Hopefully that will take care of environmental issues into the future.

hitt, I have 14 yrs in at job #1, but I'm working weekends for job #2. I'll survive. I'm helping friends out at the same time, so it's cool.

roth, we put in a new furnace this spring and now I'm wishing we had done the AC at the same time. Our AC sits outside so replacing the unit shouldn't be too hard, just expensive. I don't think I'd be braving the heat till it comes in. Heat usually doesn't affect me as much as a lot of other people and I can work in it all day. Since we built this place, we've had central air and I've gotten used to having the cool house at night. I can still work in it all day but I really enjoy the relief at the end of it.

FC, most residential A/C is split units with the condensing unit outside (the hot side) with the evaporator coils inside. I think my system failed on the evaporator side. I think they mostly use a single unit in commercial and industrial installs, but what do I know. Anyway, I believe the single units directly feed the ducts which require complete re-engineering of my homes system.
