Axl, I do not envy the vet bills. Maybe we can get free Obamacare for pets?

It's a boxer, roth. The little terror isn't turning out to be much of a terror, YET. An Airdale is the smallest terrier I'd ever want to keep but I'll stick with bigger working breeds. She's actually fairly mellow. She only seems to howl when she's messed up her crate. As soon as it's clean and dry, she's right back to sleep. The older red dog really likes her and they are inseparable when the pup is up. I'm not sure what made me think having a puppy around the house wouldn't be so bad.

OOh, a boxer, way cool!! I used to raise them before I got into German Shepherds. VERY nice dogs! Congrats. What is her name?

Ya, my dogs have kids. It's ok tho.

A full weekend of training ahead of me, then a trial next weekend. If Titus qualifies for Nationals again, I'm going to be upset. I really am not up to driving to tenn.

LOL, I had to go back a page, must be suffering from halfhiemers orr just need reading glasses. I was sure I read "little terrier" when you first posted, but it was "little terror". That's why I was confused. Other than Hailey, a combination of American Eskimo and Sheltie, I only had one small dog-Boston Terrier/kicked in the head by a horse Wire Haired Terrier. That dog was insane, the only one I had to put down before its time. He was just dangerous and I was too young to figure out how to fix him. Haily's crazy too, but she listens to me. I've wondered what I'll do when T is no longer here. Jack is still young and he and T never really played together because of the age difference. I guess that will be a decision for another day.

I've always had luck with pups. I always got them trained pretty quickly in the house breaking area, and other than Jack, I never had an issue with control outdoors. He's just obstinate and I've been lazy with training..

Hitt, I can understand your concern, especially not being a dog person. It's like having "kid" responsibilities your whole life.

We are still working on the house training, but she is making it to the door after only one full day, so I'm happy with the progress. She hasn't been named yet- this is hubby's dog, so he needs to do it. They are a lot of work, but I just can't imagine life without a dog in the house.

Cute picture FC. It looks like love at first sight although that could change as the pounds start increasing. T loved Jack as a pup. However as Jack got closer to T's size, his youthful exuberance and T's advanced age created somewhat of a "generation gap". Now T just growls when Jack gets too playful.

Remember hitt, cute wears off with age, accidents in the house WILL happen, things WILL be chewed, you must be home at a certain time to feed and put them out, they have to have exercise, and vets are more expensive than doctors. If you are willing to do all that, you are good to go and will have a solid friend for many years. If not, it won't be a good experience for you or the dog.

Getting ready for the nightly walk. Thank god hubby is home. I tried it by myself last night and it was just one big playfest. We didn't get much walking done.

They are very rewarding but every reward in life comes from a lot of work. If you are willing to put it in they can be your best friend. If you're not they can be the bane of your existence.....and the feeling will be mutual. Just make sure you are willing to go the decade+ distance. It's a huge commitment.
