I replaced the original fixtures in my kitchen 2 or 3 years after I bought it. The house was 16 when I bought it so they were approaching 20. The fridge was okay, but I wanted an ice maker since I drink a lot of ice water, the dishwasher really was old, but still worked but the range and oven was failing. I did a complete set of GE stuff that all matched and looked good at the time plus added a microwave that they built for but never purchased. . I got 15 years out of the dishwasher which failed last year. I found trouble shooting instructions but decided just to pick up a cheap replacement on sale from Lowes, I believe. The oven will probably be the next to go. The microwave has been falling apart, but I've been able to find replacement parts.

I'd like to just gut the kitchen and start over as the cabinets are falling apart, but I'll put it off as long as possible.

For the children Democrat, what do you expect. He is "talking" changing the tax structure away from at leact half the school taxes away from property tax to sales tax, which is a step in the right direction. I personally think that tax should be eliminated totally. I watched my mom's life savings get eaten up every year with property taxes to support these Taj Mahal schools that "need" to be built these days. I know my taxes are close to $6k today. If I were to live and stay in my house as long as she did and the way taxes have gone up on property, that could easily double or triple in that time.

We'll see how they do on the smokeless issue though. I am already fighting an indoor ban on e cig use being started.

I just had the most bizarre couple hours of my life. I don't want anyone to think I'm totally crazy, but I'm going to relate both here.

First, a brief description of my Buford Pusser story, from the Walking Tall Trilogy. I knew his brother-in-law whom related the story of him leaving his job in PA one Friday, having someone punch him out, and him going back down south to kill a man. This was before he was ever made famous by becoming a sheriff in Tennessee and told to me by his since deceased BIL.

I'm not sure which story was more amazing, that one or this one. I went to one of the local taverns at lunch and the regular bartender was being covered by another lady, a 30 something that I had met once before. She started telling a story about her sister (half sister as it turned out). It turns out that her step father and her sister's father was the only son of Charlie Parker, one of the father's of modern Jazz. Birdland, the jazz club in NYC was opened and in honor of him in '49 and he died the next year ODing on ....... His only blood relative was the bartender's sister, recently out of prison after being arrested on a ...... charge. She's 24 and still living off inheritance and royalties. It was so captivating that I drank 4 beers to get through it.

Either do I, I just meet those that were related to famous people. I also seem to be able to get people to trust me enough to open up those closets that most people keep closed.

I'll never got the details on the Pusser story as the fellow that told me has since past and it was a one time meeting before he developed Alzheimer disease a short time later. I had a hard time understanding the timing or location of everything and never did get my questions answered. When he told me the story, my mind was orienting everything from NE PA and in the wrong order. Since then I realized none of it took place in PA. He was living in Ky or Tn during this time and headed to Miami afterward.

He was deeply involved in the C (oops, can't write that) business in the Miami area in the late 70s, early 80s. When the poop hit the fan, he vanished to Chicago leaving everything behind with his girlfriend, including everything he saved. Needless to say, he never got any of it back. I asked him how he avoided getting tracked down, but no one in Miami knew his real name.

Somehow via his Chicago days, he got involved with the teamsters but I never got much detail on what that was about. All I know is that he pushed the envelop as far as it could be pushed and still avoid ending up on the wrong side of the bars.

This discussion got me curious and I actually found his obit. on line, quite the character, even with the part of the story the family wanted told-

Before retirement, he was employed as a warehouseman, an over the road trucker and union organizer. As union organizer for the AFL-CIO, he was instrumental in organizing the Park Rangers at Smokey Mountains National Park and Mammoth Caves.

Tom was a member of the Moose Lodge and Eagles, he operated a homeless shelter, tended bar, volunteered as a fireman, served as social director at Pocono resorts and he was an avid Notre Dame fan.

I had it sitting in my shed garage for about 15 years, unmoved. I thought I'd do something with it myself, but I had gotten into the bikes and there was no room in the main garage so it sat. My gf's son in law had asked my gf about it at one point because it was covered up. Then he was visiting a little after and I went down and uncovered the front end to show him and I could see the "look". I told him the history, I had owned it from 1971 and used it regularly during spring/summer/fall rain free days, then I bought a Miata when they first came out, got divorced, moved here and it sat. I new it needed work to get running again, but offered it to him if he was interested. I figured he'd spend a few thousand to get it running again but totally restored $15-30k if he wanted to sell it today.

He moved it just in time for when we sold mom's house and I "inherited" that lawn vac I had bought and kept at mom's house to handle her leaves. Their son is around 5 so if he falls in love with it after his dad gets tired of her, it could have a good home for decades. I loved that car too much to not know it would be in good hands and I'll get some time for some nostalgic time behind the wheel in the future. A good deal for everyone.

Speaking of cars...

Pretty sore after tearing into my El Camino, replaced the camshaft, lifters, timing set and carburetor, did most of the A/C delete, cleaned it up pretty good, and got it actually timed correctly. The previous owner had the timing off two teeth on the chain and the distributor was set way way off.

Besides a valve cover leak (rookie mistake, ugh) and throttle linkage/carburetor tuning, its pretty much ready for break in. Gonna have to wait a few weeks now due to work schedule. Fired right up on the first try after a minor timing adjustment and choke not hooked up though.

Hopefully next year I'll be able to swing new aluminum cylinder heads and an intake manifold. I'll get to my 450+ horsepower goal someday.

Yeah, my ex had a '66 Chevelle SS that she got from her uncle who was just a few years older. He had souped it up and put in a high performance clutch. You could just give it gas and let out the clutch and it would just burn rubber. Of course my dad had an Olds Cutlass 442 Sedan that looked like a family car and would do the same thing stock.

I never really got into that much power, although I did buy a Ford Taurus SHO that would move when asked.

The second of two Datsun 280ZXs I owned back in the day. This one was a turbo and scary quick. Spent quite a few Friday nights spooling up that turbo against bigger muscle cars. I could get them off the line but they usually caught me before the next light. Fun car, but not family friendly with only two seats. Notorious for rusting, especially around the rear wheel wells and lower doors. But I always liked the zippy little foreign cars above our bulky muscle cars. Greatest pleasure was finding a nice twisty road to have some fun. Memories...
