Hey Hitt, I'm using the opposite approach, sitting here watching the lawn grow into a pasture, calclating how long I can go before I can't avoid pulling out the lawn mower. I wouldn't think of watering my lawn because it would just grow faster. Oh it's around 90 here, but the trees and ceiling fan make it comfortable until perhaps 4 or 5PM.

The differences between your 40s and your 60s and living in a development and living in the sticks. :)

I hear you Roth. When we were house shopping, the wife wanted a place with sidewalks and other kids nearby for our kids. I kinda wanted something with neighbours not as close but the kids always come first. At least that's what I've been told.

Hitt, that made me laugh and remember. My first property was in town, a combo twin home with a carriage house behind. I rented the twin and lived in the one bedroom carriage. I found a raised ranch (best description) out in the country that I had for sale (RE salesman in a previous life) was extremely comfortable for me. I was running an open house for the weekend where I tried to sell it on Saturday and didn't want anyone else to buy it on Sunday.

I talked to the owners that night and we agreed on the sale. Soon after we moved in, I started buying fertilizer and making the beautiful yard. Now I was mid to late 20s at the time and my next door neighbors and the one across the street were close to retirement age or retired. After a few weeks my lawn was a shining example of suburbia at its finest. I looked at it with pride until the old fellow across the street came over an commented on my lawn. He said it looked nice enough, but I was making the rest of the neighborhood look bad.

Now I never figured out if he was just joking or being serious, but that was the last year I really went out of my way to deliver lawn beautiful. I'd wait until the dandelions started creeping in and give it a kill the weeds application, but lawn beautiful became a thing of the past. It was an acre property so I saved a lot of money over the years.

That's a good story Roth. I took decent care of my yard at our first house and then I really caught the bug when we moved here and the neighbor was a lawn fanatic. Our yards are small so one bag of fertilizer does the whole yard. Usually I don't have to water this much but like I said, we haven't been getting any rain. I guess in retrospect that I could say that I caught the disorder from my neighbor.

Good to see everyone is doing well!
all this talk of lawns is scary :) it seems the older i get the less i want to be mowing. i'm fine with weeding but i just can't make myself do the fertilizer/mow 3 times a week thing anymore. I caught myself trying to get the wife to take over more of the front yard for her flower beds this year. I think she might be going for it :)

the vacation was nice - there's a door, deadbolt and knob on the shop, the hallway is painted and has a new repro light fixture, the laundry room is painted and has a "new" old light fixture and the bathroom is maybe 70% done ( we're having a terrible time trying to find tile that matches unglazed, unbeveled hex tiles from the 30's - i wonder why??......).

it seems as if the smoking desire is waning although, i haven't been to band practice in 2 weeks or something. A very, very nice young woman on the forum sent me some wta to try and i think i'll break into tomorrow.i think it took me all week to get through 3 ml's and it seemed to slow down alot after the first 3 days of having the pv up and going.

    at any rate,
the wife and doggies are snoozing and i'm watching some terrible cooking/ travel show on netflix with an offroad frosted upper lipped. this host is a total self absorbed tool. he's like a trainwreck that eats anything in any country - you can't look away but know he's puking his guts out when the cameras turn off....

Good morning. Gutter that vacation kinda sounds like work. As far as the mowing thing goes, I've only had to mow once a week even with running the sprinklers. We got our first rain that actually amounted anything last night. That was the first in over a month. The ground here is just really dry.

That's good news that the smoking desire is leaving you. I hope it doesn't come back when you have practice again.

My mother told me that one should let their lawn go to seed at least once a year so that it replants itself. That kind of makes sense, doesn't it? Ditch grass that is let to go to seed is always really thick... doubt I'll talk my hubby into that one though.

Hj is still maintaining. I drop the prednizone dose on Friday. Not looking forward to that. If he stays ok, great, if he doesn't...well a life on pred is not the greatest, from my understanding.

Good luck with HJ. I hope it goes well.

Axl, are you running any more? I slacked off for a few months and am paying for it now. I can only run about half of what I used to without walking for a while. I guess I shouldn't expect anything different.

Mowed my pasture this afternoon before the rains come in the next couple days. I really need to get the chain saw out and attack my yard but that will need to wait till I figure out when I'll stop procrastinating. :p

Instead I cleaned up my mom's overflowed toilet. Public sewer is in her future.

I usually Vape Batch 777 Tobacco which is like a Turkish Camel on Analogs or Cigar, sometimes a cappuccino. I usally like stuff that can be consumed through out the day, like drink stuff coffee, tea some fruit flavors. The other flavors are interesting but if I want a cookie or a beer, I will just have a cookie or a beer. just my two cents.

Gimpy, I'm into small game myself. Now where'd that dang wabbit git to?

Which reminds me, I was heading home on my scoot last night and I see these eyes racing across the road ahead. When I got close to where I saw the eyes, they passed in front of me again, young foxes. There must have been half a dozen of them. Hopefully they found a better place to play.
