She's been locked in for two nights now and she's doing great. We stopped using the playpen since she figured how to jump out. So far so good on the crate and she made it over six hours last night with no mess. She was even slow getting out when I opened it this morning.

hitt, we use "NO", and walk away from her. She prefers to be with the people, and it seems to work. The chew alternative doesn't appeal to this one either. Is the girl she chews on letting the puppy do it at other times?

Axl, her mother is an average 50 lb female, her father is a monster and his mother is bigger than most males. I wouldn't have have bred the two as he is so much larger than the female. Abby has really thick leg bones, and we're hoping she's on the big side of the family tree.

Skry, how about a pic of Pixie laughing at you? :D

roth, I'm very sorry your Mom is still having so much trouble. Please make sure you are getting some rest. Dealing with those issues is draining enough, but the middle of the night trips must be exhausting you.

I say no to Pixie all the time... Have you ever seen a dog laugh??

Hitt, how does you're cat like the new pup?

About to head off to bed with:

    Thunder O
    Tea

The cat is avoiding the puppy. I figured he would swat at it and teach her who's boss but it hasn't happened. The cat hardly ate the first couple days. The cat outweighs the puppy almost two to one. I'm not sure why he's afraid.

I don't think she let's the puppy chew on her. Not that I've seen anyway. She does seem to be the puppy's favorite human though.

The cat is probably mad that you bought the puppy.

Hitt, I had the strangest dream last night that you were trying to sell a motorcycle on here and I bought it. I've never had ANY desire to own a motorcycle...never driven even a scooter. Funny subconscious.

Woke up with a terrible scratchy sore throat. I so hate that. Went back to bed and Slept in til one and still don't feel quite human. Both kids have said they have had sore throats a few days ago, but seemed to happily go on with life. They are WAY tougher than I am!!

Man, this thread has gotten active, we just needed a pup to get the convo going.

I'm with Axl and older school, NO has always worked for me despite what the PC folks say. It worked with my parents on me and my sister, so I figure it's good enough for my pets.

I'll third the TV comment, I hope he's doing good.

FC, I don't think you have any problem with the big side. That pup looks big in the picture. How old is she now?

Busy weekend. They had a dart tourney at the pub so we decided to cancel poker (first time since I took it over a couple years ago). I decided it was time to get the trailer ready for use. I had bought six hooks to install in the 2x6s that make the deck. I hadn't opened them up but I knew they'd need to be burried but I have a router so I gigured to problem. That's when you know there are going to be problems.

A much bigger routed area was needed than I expected and after building a template for the cut-outs, I realized my router was going to be too big to position the hooks where I wanted them. Off to HD on Friday after taking care of mom since she's about 2 miles from the store. $130 later and I had the tool to do the job and the bolts to install the hooks. Came home around 1PM and by 5PM I had two of the six installed, sweaty and swearing I hadn't bought a new router bit. The one I had was just a tad aged and worn out.

I headed for HD Sat. morning and got 4 fresh bits for another $20 plus waterproofing stain, took care of mom and headed home. In a bit over two hours I had the other four mounted, almost. One bolt was messed up in manufacturing so I couldn't get the nut on. SO, back to HD for the third trip today. I decided since the rain past south of us I'd stain the deck before heading out and it would be ready for the second coat by the time I got home.

Picked up the bolt, took care of mom and still had an hour and a half to finish up and catch the LL World Series at 3. It only took about a half hour for the second coat and I was home free. Went into the house to catch some of the Phillies game when I realized Golf started at 2. I don't know when or why but my mom watches golf and loves Tiger. I had told her it was on at 3 so I called. No answer on the phone by her chair so I tried the other line. It rang and rang but the it sounded briefly like she picked it up, then it went dead.

I retried for the next 5 minutes with nothing but a busy signal. The lines off the hook and even if she's in trouble and tries to push the medical alert, it won't go through, because the lines off the hook. I quickly get changed and rush to save my mother. I get there and she's sitting in the living room watching golf. She doesn't even remember the phone ringing and the line is dead. I fiddle with it for awhile and finally get it working again and I'm on my way home.

    That was my weekend.

Roth, that sounds a lot like one of my projects. The only difference is that I use the project as an excuse to the wife to buy new tools. That's how I got my dewalt cordless drill when she wanted flooring in the attic and got a nice dremel kit when I did the tile. I keep waiting for the project that will get me a sliding compound mitre saw.

:toast: I've used that excuse many times in my life. Probably the reason I have a table saw, 2 radial saws, a joiner, a band saw and a bunch of hand tools. All have come at a price, but all very handy when you just need "that particular device for some job. I just didn't have anything that would work for installing the latches, thus the finish router that worked like a gem.

I have a vice that has to be close to 100 lbs. My first house was bought from the local hardware store owner. While we were waiting to move in, he said he'd get someone to empty out the junk in the carriage house (it was a twin home or duplex, depending where you live and a carriage house that used to be a repair shop from horse and buggy days). I looked at his junk as my treasure. I told him I'd go through it and keep what I could use and get rid of the rest. He was so happy not to deal with the stuff, he said he was going to find someone to move the vise, but if I'd take care of his "junk", I could have the vice. Tell be that didn't come in handy, except the times I had to move it.

I'm also with Axl on the physical abuse issue, but only on rare occasions. I've found a tap on the snoot and a finger shaking with a firm NO usually gets their attention. With a pup, that sometimes leads to the wanting to bite at your finger. It really depends on the dogs temperament.
