China is the next emerging super power. The US is in decline. The proof is everywhere except for those that choose to take the ostrich approach. The US seems to be doing everything in its power to speed the process.

"The Chinese don't look like us or act like us or speak the same language so they are incapable of producing a decent product, right?"

WRONG.

There are Chinese products that are junk. There are US products that are junk. Choose your junk.

The world is changing as it has always done and will continue to do. Deal with it.

Anyone else here remember when "made in Japan" was a joke? I do.

Exactly true. My co workers and husband hate it when I point out that Spain and Portugal were once world powers but look at them now.
The U.S. has been around for 237 years. 1000 years ago the Goths ruled much of southern Europe and North Africa for a lot longer than than that, but now most people outside a history class only know them as people who wear a lot of black.

China has been a great power off and on for about 2500 years. They are just re- emerging now from one of their down times. For most of their history they were the the best craftsmen in the world. It' a shame they produce so much junk now.

Here's what gets to me most about this constant import bashing...

People just don't realize how much imports/exports help the economy. Do you people even understand just a tiny bit what would happen if imports/exports ceased and we kept everything in America? You can be sure it will cause economic devastation. If it never even began in the first place, a ton... and I mean a TON... of our beloved companies likely wouldn't be standing today. Whether it were from being unable to keep up profits or from the lack of resources to start up.

This whole "buy American!!!!" thing is misinformed. If you really want to make a positive impact, you need to take it a step further... buy LOCAL. That means to try and get some produce grown by local farmers. Go visit that mom and pop shop and pay those few extra dollars. That will make a huge positive impact on your local economy. And if more and more people do this, every state will get a boost meaning that America as a whole will grow.

I always laugh when I see a Chrysler with the sticker, "Out of a job yet? Keep buying foreign." It's funny because it has Mitsubishi parts. And this is ignoring the fact that Japanese car manufacturers have plants here in America employing thousands of Americans.

I can't tell you the last time I bought a Dole vegetable or fruit. Budweiser? Bleck....

Other's successes don't necessarily mean our failure.

I dislike scarcity thinking. Scarcity thinking implies (wrongly) that if someone else is succeeding, or getting something that there is "not enough to go around" and that is not true.

Cooperation works. If there was more of that on a worldwide basis, the world would be a better place. IF that were not true, a forum like this wouldn't even work. We are cross pollinating, we are sharing solutions, and that is what works. It works for all people, in all nations, everywhere.

I have never thought of the world as Them and Us. My spiritual beliefs make that impossible. Man made boundaries with lines drawn on maps? We are ALL human beings.

YOUR seed could have been dropped *anywhere*. How would you like to be sitting in a refuge camp right now? But quit beating your chest, cuz you didn't *DO* anything to make that not happen. Did you. I am always amazed at how smug people can be. I am no more deserving than the woman sitting in the refugee camp in Somalia or somewhere, who's children are starving and have flies around their head. I just LUCKED OUT.

So did you.

The sun is setting on the empire, and all most people who are defensive seem to do is look around for someone else to blame. Surely it must be antoher race, another citizenry, foreigners, government etc.

Those who look at their own behavior, and try to improve, are improving the world at large. Those with their fingers pointed toward others rarely improve anything.

A good book, a classic, to read, very short: True Believer, by Eric Hoffer. Pull up the summary on Amazon. :) I've been reading it over and over again for 30 years.

So far this whole thread I have pretty much been on the side defending Chinese goods and I stand by those statements as far as quality goes. However there is ONE thing I really have against China when it comes to foreign commerce. The Chinese government IS 100% guilty of currency manipulation creating unfair advantages with international trade. I am 100% for any sanctions, import taxes or other penalties being levied against Chinese goods until they cease and desist with these practices.

Various Stories Of Chinese Currency Manipulation

I wish that, even if just for a minute, we could transport all of Earth's population to the moon and have them look up.

I couldn't find the link I was looking for, so I opted for this one, instead.

It kinda represents how Western/Eastern commerce is different. It's a TLDR (roughly 3 min long) video so skip it if your attention span is about 30 seconds long.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKNeFHBPgRo

Replace Japanese with Chinese.

EDIT: One of my favorite scenes from that movie is when a couple of Japanese men are analyzing a model of an American car and it falls apart and they say "Hah hah hah, American car."

I don't recall mad cow here, only the U.K. and folks that traveled there. I don't recall the human consequences of mad cow here either.

We have plenty of food scandal's here but I don't ever recall one that rose to the criminality of the melemine scandal in china.
Read that article I linked and follow the reference links at the bottom too.

Post the mad cow links. I want to see the prison sentences and fines the culprits got.

are prison sentences your only yardstick for scandals? who went to jail for the Wall Street implosion? it still happened even if no one did any time........at least china imprisons or executes their criminals: we let them go on doing the same thing over and over......

Does anyone realize how much of the US railroad system had its tracks laid by the Chinese. They worked hard, very hard were paid next to nothing and treated terribly by the big business of the time. I was born in the US, served 8 years in the US Navy but....my great grandparents came from Germany, Scotland, Ireland, and the Rosebud Indian Reservation (Lakota Sioux). I have a hard time understanding the elitist attitudes I see from some folks.... we all come from somewhere. We all have different budgets, different tastes, varying electronic abilities. Buy what makes you happy, vape what tastes good, and please above all else, the vaping community needs to stay united and focused so we don't loose out right to vape-on!

Totally agree. I also think instead of focusing on what we don't do any more we should be focusing more on what we can do.

People hate on smart phones made in china, but the apps are what make the phones worth a darn. Those can be made any place. Why not look at all the start ups who are working business now employing people on every corner of the globe including America.

Looking back is good, but if you never look forward you're gunna fall on your .....

It all has to do with the quality of the goods, not the people who make it. Take the best apv from FastTech and compare it to a ProVari and you will understand the difference.

What I was doing there was theme-based metaphorical analysis based on the responses in the thread. People are complaining about Chinese standards and baby killing juices, while PMUSA sells something that will eventually kill you free and clear. Follow?

And I was saying in my posts about the poisoned products that it was CRIMINAL CORRUPTION AND GROSS DISREGARD FOR LIFE that killed infants in China. Their own children, to make a little more money.
We all had a choice not to smoke. Do the parents of China have a realistic choice not to feed their children food from outside their country? Do you think the average Chinese citizen can afford that? I bet the jerks who put the melamine in the milk products could until they were executed or sent to prison.
BTW, for some of you, criticism does not equal racism.

You're going to feel really silly if they did, in fact, twist her arm....and become is one word these days.

Typo. Shoot me. I can't spell, type, or proof read.
I have a degree from one of the largest universities in the country to boot.
All these issues got even worse when I gave up nicotine 2 years ago.

I purchase 99% of my liquids and 3/4 of each month's vaping budget at American vendors. However, this is another reason I am reluctant to buy all of my vaping gear from B&M's. Aside from the markup, which may be understandable, I find the warranty for most items is nil or only good for DOA atty's/cartos to maybe 30 days for an apv. I understand Provari's may be different, and you can pay for that lifetime warranty with confidence and quality. But, for most people, moderate spending is the goal, and at least at Fasttech, I get a 6 month return warranty. It's not a process without effort on my part, but most returns are not. And in most cases, this kind of warranty does not exist. When a vendor is turning around and selling a Chinese manufactured item, marking up the price, providing little to no warranty for the exact same QC assurance I get at Fasttech, that is a reason to spend my dollar where it gets the most in return.

But then you have to take the $40 mod from Provape and compare that to an SVD or Vamo.
Oh, wait - there isn't one.
So when I want a Provari, I'll buy one, and when I want a $40 VAMO, it's coming from China.

Juice too.
I buy Dekang, and yes, I trust the quality. I also buy Tribeca.

What's the problem?

The world is a vast place, and human history sees ebbs and flows of empires, trade, economies. Populations migrate from one place to another in search of work, an income, a future for their chldren, pushed by misery, famine, industrial revolutions... Money and goods and countries, philosophies and systems, change hands, start wars, fall out of value or favour.

From generation to generation, the details of who has the upper economic hand change. The day before yesterday it was Great Britain, Europe, yesterday it was the US, Korea and Japan... Today it is China, India and Pakistan... Who will it be tomorrow? Does it matter? Not really, because in a generation or two, it will be someone else.

Who remembers that the basics of mathematics are classical Greek and Arabic? That Columbus 'cloned' an Arab-designed sail and thus made it across the Atlantic, where he thought he'd got a cheap trade route to India? That Marco Polo stole Chinese technology? That the American Revolution, when you come down to the absolute basis, was a refusal to pay import taxes? That people in France had to be tricked into planting and eating potatoes, that cheap poisonous plant brought to Europe from South America? That both viruses and medicine spread, and nobody lives in an isolated vacuum...

Individuals and families suffer enormously when they get caught up in economic revolution - I think of the iron smelters, the shipbuilders, the people who had spent their whole working lives in mines or heavy industry and who watched their livelihoods disappear in the 1980s. The peasants who were forced to emigrate because their little farms were swallowed up...the craftsmen displaced by assembly lines...

What has this got to do with the topic? Good question :) Nobody needs to bash anybody. On the micro-economic level, we can just practice fair trade and informed mindfulness. Use our resources wisely and figure out what really counts in our lives.

Vape in peace and serenity.
