Ralph's been on a few times in the last couple of weeks -- better than when he went without a single visit during the first three weeks in August.

My father's retirement community wants a meeting with me and him. My first reaction was that they think he has to move to the nursing home but it is that they feel he needs an aide for a few hours a day in order to remain in independent living. I just talked to him. He doesn't want it. He doesn't need it. I should remember I'm on his side (I said being on his side means not wanting him to fall and hurt himself) and he doesn't want me to say to them that I see their point of view.

See it? I share their point of view. So does my sister. And when he was in the hospital and in the nursing home for rehab, he accepted the idea of getting a part-time aide. But the second he began to feel a little better…

When he was in the hospital and the nursing home for rehab, he ready to have an aide with he went back to assisted living (and to get rid of the rug in his bedroom.) But, as soon as he felt a little better…

There is definitely an element of trying to retain control of his life. I get it. But the single thing he wants most is to remain in assisted living and not have to move to the nursing home. Kendal, the community he's in is doing everything they can to ensure that he gets to stay in assisted living and he's fighting every step of the way.

Oh, well. This too shall pass. Eventually.

When it's my time, my solution is that I live alone so I get to die in my own apartment. And I intend for it to be well before I'm 93.
