Question for the electrical-minded.

I finished steaming any remaining cigarette residue out of the wall and am ready to hang my new wall sconce. It can be hard wired or plugged in. They recommend using an electrician for both but I've hung track lighting before and I figured "how hard can it be." I'm not stupid enough to try hard wiring on my own but plug in I can do.

So I undid the 4 screws and removed the back. And there was a little, green nut screwed into the backing (the tip keeps the backing from lying flat on the wall) and it says "ground." That's only for hard wiring, right? If I have to ground this thing, I'm getting an expert.

It does -- that's unusual for a lamp. Also, the directions only talk about attaching a wire to that in the hard wire section. I think I'm safe but I'm not going to actually put it up until tomorrow so I'll see what the others say -- apartment living = no hammering anchors into the wall at 3:45 AM.

How are you, stranger?

You're right. The green is for running a ground wire to the sconce if you're doing the wiring yourself. As you're just going to plug it in (for now), just move the tip or whatever it takes to get it flat on the wall. Try to do it without breaking the ground connector if you can just in case you want to hard wire it sometime in the future.

Yup. Got the all dark one. In the store the dark one was the only one on display so I spent an hour staring at it and at the table lamp in the other color. Gonna try to put it up today. Tomorrow I'm back at Dad's (with my sister and cousin so that will be fun.)

Thanks. I'll never want to hard wire it -- I rent my apartment. The green bolt isn't attached to anything now so I can take it out and stick it in a labeled plastic bag, just in case.
