Word games are my speed right now -- post and run.
Saga time:
On Monday, 7/9 my Dad decided he could go back to the ba
throom to get something he forgot
without his walker. He was wrong. He stumbled back into the shower and hit his side on the shower chair while falling.
On Tuesday he was still in pain and the evening nurse overrode his directions and sent him to the hospital next door to get x-rayed for broken ribs. 6 hours in the ER. Nothing broken. The doctor asked if he wanted to stay overnight. He said he guessed his assisted living facility could take care of him so the idiot doc sent him home.
My sister, my niece and I were there Saturday. His right side was completely purple from his mid-right side to his hip and around back to his but. He had a hematoma the size of a football. The nurse and the nurse practitioner said that was because he was on coumadin (a blood thinner to help prevent clots.) Bruises tend to get worse before the get better.
Last Monday the day nurse told him he shouldn't get his meals in his room because he needed the exercise of walking to the dining room. If he lost what little mobility he had, he wouldn't be able to stay in assisted living and would have to go to the nursing home section. Then the evening nurse came in, took one look at him and sent him back to the ER. He had internal bleeding and had lost almost 3 units of blood. I came up on Tuesday and my sister drove up for overnight. He got a transfusion. They took him off the coumadin and did a CAT scan to make sure the blood wasn't squishing his internal organs. It wasn't so he didn't have to have surgery -- once they stopped the bleeding what was there started getting reabsorbed on it's own. I was there on Thursday and, again on Friday when he got transferred back to the nursing home for rehab. (Long day. The transport came at 7pm.)
During all this, we're trying to finish his taxes for 2011. My sister and I are a great tag-team for this. I download, scan & set up spreadsheets. She finds all the papers and organizes them. And we learned that, while he is totally lucid and understands everything about his finances, he doesn't always remember to write the checks on time, or to mail them and, because his eyesight is going, when pays by phone he sometimes gets the credit card # wrong. So this week I've also been setting it up for me to do his banking for him (electronically.)
And how has your July been?
