Why are a lot of people obsessed with vaping at high W?

Simple: clouds, bro...CLOUDS
Can you cloud up a room with a nautilus at 12w? Some people are cloud chasers, and more wattage + more airflow = faster e-liquid vaporization and MORE CLOUDS :D

Furthermore, some e-liquids just taste better at higher wattages.

:) There's room for both sides of the preference for Clouds or just 15W plumes. I'm a stealth vapor when I'm out of the house. I can vape everywhere I go in 10W mode. I grew up in vaping using the "blow the vapor down your shirt" mode to remain stealthy.

I vape inside Walmart and other stores, restaurants, and even movie theaters. No one notices or even cares. If I liked cloud making I'd be stuck with having to go outside for a vape. That's too much like the smoking area that vaping freed me from!

What drove me to higher watt/power use was just the preference for the loose draw, and TBH better flavor than I got out of my Nauti coils. The mtl tanks I have will satisfy my cravings when I need stealth, but not the satisfaction of a good vape, which is an entirely personal thing. The cloud I could do without and still be happy with a loose draw and lots of flavor.

It really boils down to personaly preference. I'm not a cloud chaser and I'm not a tootler...somewhere in the middle. I'm usually between 35-70w. There were times when I was obsessed with 100w+, but after ripping through 30ml+ of juice in a day, and having to charge so much more...not to mention rewick, I found a happy medium.

There's a time for stealth, sure. I try not to vape in public if I can. It was like when I smoked: I HATED smoking on busy streets and near non-smokers. I don't want to be *that @$%& guy* walking down 42nd street leaving a plume in his wake.

As you get older, we tend to remain courteous of others, but really couldn't care less what others think.
Id rather not be the guy that whines about someone vaping.

I actually passed older gentleman on my way to the store on my breakfast-break this morning. Didn´t really see what he was doing and then all of a sudden a huge cloud surrounded him and he looked at it and chuckled. I had my beater mod with me so i asked him what he was vaping on and he responded "It´s a SMOK Alien with a TFV8" I was speechless :p Dude was around 70-ish

I visited my mom and dad at the assisted living facility this weekend. This older lady (85+) fogged up the coffee/breakfast area. I asked her what she had there. She said "it's a Hammer of God quad 18650 and a Goon 24. Got her rocking dual ss framed and stapled aliens. She came out to .09 ohms and she chucks, bro!"

This is in no way, a true story.

I do love seeing older folks vape though, they do a great deal to break the "vaping hipster" stereotype and help remind people...like my sister...that this is truly about harm reduction and quality of life.

Right before I got to the last sentence, I was thinking: "Pictures or it didn't happen." :p

From a mathematical standpoint bigger coils need more wattage but I haven't seen any need for anyone to vape really over 100 unless they are trying to prove something or their coils weighs about 8oz in metal. I have a friend of mine says he can't vape anything under 100w nowadays. So I asked him, do you use the TC function of your mod at all? He replied....nope, straight up wattage.

Personally I am a flavor chaser and try to find the balance between the cloud and the flavor. So I find my happiness in various places. Point in fact, I recently found my old MVP with my trusty Fluid Flask catro tank on it. Cleaned it all up and loaded it up with some juice and a new boge carto and now I am usually vaping it just before bed at a whole whopping 12.5 watts and quite happy to put the TC mod down for a smaller vape.

...and after reading this thread I think we need a vintage vaping thread for us old schoolers still using the good stuff. I am cleaning all my old mechs and atty's up. Almost got my Nautilus tank working back to its former leaking and flooding glory.

There are many times throughout the day where I will vape at 130 watts, mainly because when I am using a TFV12 tank, for me, 130 watts is the sweet spot. The coil doesn't weigh 8oz, and I have nothing to prove. I will vape at 130 watts because it is what I prefer, and it keeps me from smoking. Sorry for not fitting into your stereotype of those who vape at higher wattages, i.e. differently than you do. ;)

Can you cloud up a room with a Nautilus at 12w?

Any other silly questions?

OK, it is 19W not 12W, but it is a Nautilus. And I can blow even larger clouds than that with it now that I've removed the airflow control ring.

HOW DO YOU VAPE IN A THEATER AND NOBODY NOTICES???!?!?!?!? I vape in my man cave and while it looks cool it is clearly noticeable because the image from my PJ is shot through the fog... and i have my seating set at what would be considered just past the 1/3 mark in a theater on my 126" screen as far as immersion goes.

Went into a vape shop and saw this older gentleman (60+) with a cleito 120 and the RX300. He said he was electrician and a nerd so that's why he got into vaping. Funny thing is that's the same reason why I got into vaping.

126" screen :w00t:!? Man I envy you, I only have a 32 inch aging lcd. I would never vape in a theater, too distracting to others.

Not to put it out there but why not, my children each have their own 32" in each of their rooms mounted to the walls :D

high wattage gives 2 things usually 1. more vapor especially if your cloud chasing, you usually use a higher wattage and quicker draws versus lower wattage and longer draws. this gives a totally different throat hit in general which some enjoy like myself. 2. temperature of the vapor, higher wattage gives off a warmer vapor again this highly depends on your wants. some like a hotter/warmer vapor others want it cooler. even at higher wattages vapor isn't that hot when you have the right airflow. if not you will learn the hard way by your atty getting hot to the touch and sometimes even your mouth piece will get hot too but i believe this has to do with air flow as well.

Been thinking about these new 300-350w mods. I ran a .11 coil for a couple days and it was around 5v at less than half that power. None of these new mods are rated lower than .10 in power mode so does whoever actually turns them up run over 10v & is that beneficial in any way?
*not thinking about as in considering buying

The thing about a mod of that power is that the only way you can achieve that high of wattage is to build according to ohms law because the amperage limit of the chip will only allow voltage to go as high as max amp output regardless of where you set the wattage therefore running a .10 coil will never reach 300 plus watts of power because the device regulates the voltage according to amp load. For example let's say the amp out limit is 40 amps you would have to build a .22 ohm setup to hit 350 watts that would be 8.75 volts and 39.89 amps let that be a .20 coil and the 40 amp limit will kick in providing 8 volts and 320 watts of power regardless if you turn it to 350. High wattage is fun every now and then but truthfully for how fast you would go through juice and batteries it would be a short lived event.

10W to 15W is where I can replicate the cigarettes that vaping replaced. But then, my vape mix is 70%PG for more flavor. I don't care for the high VG juices or clouds. Stealth vaping is accomplished best with low wattage and higher PG mixes. In TC mode with a 10W power setting I'm vaping at 350F degrees with a 400F max setting on a .95 ohm coil.
Wow I can't do the pg like that you a better man than me brother lol and I like the 56'goldtop in your pic I own one myself what a wonderful instrument
