I don't understand why I see so many people against the younger generation switching? I'm 18 years old, been smoking since i was 15 and I found a way to get off of cigarettes and now almost completely off of nicotine. vaping seems to keep me occupied when driving and sitting around doing nothing. That's when I smoked. When I had nothing to do. It passed the time for me and kept me occupied. Yes, I understand that there may be non-smokers trying it out, but who's to say that they wouldn't have tried cigarettes eventually and picked that up? I just wanted to spread my opinion on it, not from reading on this forum or any forum, but mostly from seeing people around me and hearing people around me in the shops I've been to giving me and my friends looks and having rude comments to say about us buying products. We're of age and we're trying to get off of cigarettes before its too late. Not only to improve our health but to improve our life in general. Who knows, we may even get off of vaping as well. I'm sorry if this offends anybody, but I really don't mean to. I'm just curious to why so many people are against it even if we're doing it for a good reason.

I don't think you will find too many against it if you are already a smoker. The main problem is younger people/non smokers seeing this as cool and trying it. Most times they will try it and give up after a short while and move on to the next latest and greatest fad. For some of us long term smokers this is a lifeline and we try not to encourage anyone to start if they don't need to.

+1000 x this. vaping isnt perfectly healthy or harmless, but if you really look at ECF forums you will see some folks who smoked for decades and wanted to stop doing it before it killed them.

Thats not a fad, they are trying like hell to fight a demon - tobacco - that will kill 1000+ folks every day. EVERY. DAY.

Lately I am seeing folks saying that they want to try vaping, I ask 'do you smoke?' they say no. Then why on earth try this?

Thats just how I feel about it.

I agree with everyone that has posted comments so far... If you haven't smoked then why would you want to start vaping? its not a fad it is an alternative to smoking, I know that some vape shops out here will ask how much you smoke and how long, and when they say they haven't they will not sell to them. and its the shops choice and they still have alot of business.

In regard to young adults picking up vaping (non-smokers) for the first time, as a wise old hag, I have the same advice/chastisement I would have toward someone picking up smoking. We're the same old-timers that, had we still been smokers, telling young'ens that they shouldn't be smoking. Yeah, we smoked, and some for quite a long time. Use us as a cautionary tale, not as role models. Just like cigarettes, vaping by a non-smoker WILL lead to nicotine dependence. And as someone who smoked for longer than you've been on this earth, there's no way I can encourage vaping by a non-smoker to anyone, ever.

That said, you (OP) are certainly not the type of young adult toward which I need to direct my warning. Clearly, you've been a smoker, and you are looking for a safe way to reduce/eliminate the harm you've done to yourself. That, my friend, is a mature decision, and I applaud you. I'm sorry that you've got terrible, rude service from the shops you've visited. Sounds like they've prejudged you (young kid, looking to jump on the cool, trendy vaping wagon).

I have a theory that the new generation will try vaping rather than smoking analogs.

Without vaping they would go for their parents cigs like most generations before them. The claim that teens start vaping because of flavors is flawed. It does not account the the teens that would start actually smoking if vaping was not available.

I suppose some could make an argument that if neither was available then teens would not do either. IMO that is also flawed.
All throughout history teens have always found something they are not suppose to do.

Because these teens have the option of vaping rather then grabbing an analog.

I am not against a smoker of any age trying to quit. I am against a person of any age especially a young person taking up smoking or vaping. I know what it's like to be a slave to nicotine for decades. I truly wouldn't wish it on anybody. It's one of the few regrets I have in my life. But I realize that despite laws, rules by parents etc, people esp teens will do what they want and will get hooked. If vaping helps people get off cigs then I am all for it. I am sorry you are harassed but I think it's fair to assume at your age that you are probably not an ex smoker that you are looking for a fad fix, or even got hooked to the nicotine in vaping. It sucks but that's how our society has become. Welcome to the world of being treated as a smoker. Try not to take it personal.

Have converted many people over the years and I consider it a HUGE bonus when the converted is a younger person. I echo RosaJ's sentiment- "I'm so glad you've been able to do so at such a young age! I wish I had the choice of picking up ecigs instead of cigarettes more than 40 years ago."
Congrats  to you and your friends and Wishing You the Very Best of Luck.

Hey john,
Why are some many people against Vaping in general?:glare:
IMHO most uninformed see vapers as a "lunatic fringe" group out to dismantle the the fabric of the world.
For them to see young people vaping, OMG it must be the "Zombie Apocalypse". they have been infected.
I congratulate you for taking the "plunge" and coming over to the "light side". :vapor:
The ignorant will never understand.........
IMHO no one here will be offended, most will know how it feels to be a "vape leper".
Vape on brother, on your schedule.:toast:

I don't have anything against the younger generation vaping .....

I just don't like the younger generation

I don't even have a problem with "non-smokers" vaping .... if asked I'd recommend against nic-juice, but what the heck if someone wants to "mess around" with the gear and different flavors of juice why not? Just because I used vaping as a tool to kick a habit doesn't give me membership to an exclusive club.

Some day people will understand that...

--Nicotine is most likely no more harmful or addictive than caffeine
--Nicotine is not nearly as addictive as everyone has been led to believe
--Many people take up smoking for reasons other than nicotine
--Nicotine has many documented benefits

When people understand this, they have to realize that nicotine is not evil, and nicotine is nothing more or less than most any other substance.
But will people understand this? Probably not. The entire world has been brainwashed into thinking all that is REALLY true about nicotine is the exact opposite.

So yeah, this is where we find ourselves.

welcome treyalexjohn ... most people vaping are older smokers who happen to also be parents ... when they see a young person vaping, they first think ... why start vaping?

They don't think ... oh, this youngster must be trying to quit smoking.

Just deal with it and be happy that you have made the choice to be a better person by quitting smoking.

Good luck with staying off the smokes treyalexjohn :2cool:

I think people who don't want kids trying this is partially ageism and mostly hypocrisy. It's good for me to do this, but not good if you do this. Perfectly okay that I started at 15, but absolutely horrible if you do. Take my advice, do not get into a nicotine habit. Now, let me go into another thread and brag about latest product I picked up and just how totally awesome vaping is, and all the wonderful toys and how I simply love the day when vape mail comes to my house. Man, oh man, do I love vaping. But kids, you must hate it. You must, I tell you! You must!!!

I think with younger people e-cigs might have the exact opposite effect of their intention. Once you get a little wiser, you realize smoking is bad and that you would like to quit. With younger people, they might try the electronic alternative, and then wonder what the real thing is like, because well, kids will be kids. Cognitively, there are differences in between the choices made between kids and adults, and that's generally speaking. I'm sure we are all aware of how easy it is for most kids to get their hands on cigarettes anyway nowadays.

Someday there will be a person that moves from vaping yummy flavors to inhaling burning chemicals from a cigarette that taste nasty.
But such a person would have to have been born with no taste buds, and no such person has been identified yet as far as I know.
