why can’t a non-smoker vape?

I wasn't trying to be a troll :( if you guys are incapable of having this perfectly reasonable discussion without getting upset and offended, I will end it.

the problem is it is not a reasonable discussion and you are not listening to the voices of people who are EXPERIENCED in nicotine addictions.

No I think the point is that people shouldn't pick up addictions.

Absolutely true, people shouldn't. But people still do anyway (after all, BT companies are still in business). Why not advocate to someone instead of picking up a cig to pick up 0-nic juice and a PV? Essentially the same feeling, just no addiction to nicotine.

I'm not trying to be mean and I'm not offended. I just don't like it when people take a few words out of a post and make it sound completely different then what it was intended to sound like as a whole.

I apologize for doing that, and will be careful of that in future. I was not trying to make it sound completely different than what it was. I just didn't feel the need to respond to every single thing, is all.

If a non smoker wants to vape 0 nic juice then Im not their mom or the FDA - they should do whatever they want as long as its not hurting others; which it wouldnt be. If they wanted to start smoking cigs they wouldn't be seeking an opinion now would they?
And if everyone said 'No vaping!' and then they took up smoking to get the experience, everyone would feel horrible.
We do have some non smokers who vape anyway - they have conditions which benefit from nicotine and are trying vaping as a way to control their illnesses. Most of them didnt smoke - and people aren't jumping on them for it.
What's the difference?

Trust me you're preaching to the choir. As I already stated, I have a huge analog phobia, and hate people who smoke.

Do you realize that 99.99% of us were smokers not too long ago, and some still do smoke on occasion? And I'll venture to say that all of us hate people who hate smokers. Hating *smoking* is one thing, but hating people who smoke? This board has rules against what I'd like to express about that statement. I hope you just chose your words poorly and didn't really mean it, otherwise... :nah:

P.S. McDonalds ain't health food, but "loaded with toxic chemicals that poison the body and brain" - that's just crazy talk.

I take no issue with the idea of someone that doesn't smoke picking up Vaping. If it has to be one or the other, I would rather a non-smoker turn into a Vaper than a Smoker.

However, just as I wouldn't suggest that someone start smoking, I wouldn't suggest someone start vaping unless it's to get them off of cigarettes.

Things happen though and people make their own choices. It's understandable.

I'm with most other people here, though.
There's no need to start an addiction.
If you want to do it, though, by all means, have at it.

But just as most smokers give fair warning to the person picking up their first combustible, Vapers are extending that same warning.
That's really all there is to it.

We aren't condemning it. But, we very certainly aren't condoning it.

You have to understand that to us ex-smoking Vapers: Vaping is akin to the ...... addict's Methadone.
We're doing our damnest to better our healths and our quality of life without suffering the ill effects of breaking one of the statistically hardest addictions to kick in the world.
It's tough for us to wrap our heads around someone doing it "just because".

We mean no ill will in our warnings. We very much have the best of intentions.

On a side note. If you're Vaping 0nic there's very little issue. Vape on.
But, messing with Nic Juice can potentially be dangerous and even more so for a non-smoker.
The movie Thank You For Smoking comes to mind.

Way to totally miss the point. People shouldn't be doing either one. I never recommended someone that didn't smoke to have a cig, and always told them that they shouldn't try them. I do the same for vaping. If you don't smoke you really shouldn't start smoking or vaping.

I think it's you that missed the point. The point is there are new smokers lighting up for the first time everyday. If they have made up their minds to pick up the habit, why not pick up the one that's not gonna kill you. Remember, all we had is analog cigarettes back in our beginning so there was no choice. The best choice however is not to pickup neither habit. Times are different now and there's two choices, one better than the other. I would never tell a person to start vaping if they don't smoke but if I know they are thinking of picking up the nasty smoking habit no matter what I say then, yes I will then say hay maybe you should get an e cig instead. E cigarettes are not just for people that want to get off analogs, they're the modern alternative to tobacco.

QFT

I noticed this statement as well.
I sincerely hope it was a mistake in wording and not a genuine statement on the OP's personal opinion.

Almost all of us here hate smoking. But hating Smokers? That's a mentality we can not get behind.

Absolutely true, people shouldn't. But people still do anyway (after all, BT companies are still in business).

Well said.

I am strongly against the idea of telling other people what they should and should not be doing (as long as they are not harming other people). But just for the sake of argument, let's pretend that I buy into it:

Telling someone "don't do this" usually doesn't work.

Its like the episode of Family Guy where there's a button that says "Do not push this button". Peter sits there looking at it for a bit. Then, he looks around to make sure no one is looking, then, slowly, pushes the button. Then some guy drops down from a panel on the ceiling, and beats the .... out of him.

I think that a person wanting to pick up a puffing "addiction" is the same story. That person is stupid, foolish, call them what you will. But going and telling them "don't smoke or vape"? Do you seriously think that they are going to listen? Telling someone "don't do this" is rarely effective! So since they are going to do it anyway, take Jiff's advice:

Why not advocate to someone instead of picking up a cig to pick up 0-nic juice and a PV? Essentially the same feeling, just no addiction to nicotine.

Hope this makes sense.

I know that's why all smokers had to literally force themselves to start smoking, that's why I don't understand why people like the tobacco flavor juices (to each his own i guess).

But you need to understand that the thing you are preaching about right now is why a lot of people are on the fence about E-Cigs. Parents don't want their kids to like vaping just because there are fruit flavors and I agree with their concerns but that's why there are laws, and unfortunately some states are making the wrong ones by banning them completely instead of just for minors.

Goddess read the end of his post again... he said people should use real cigarettes before they decide to vape... OMG read dangit, he's not really agreeing with you like you think he is... you just misread it.
My post was not misread. This is 2010 and there's now another choice out here if You have it in your mind that you want to smoke.

I was a 4 pack a day smoker when I quit 8 years ago. Lately, with all of the stress I've been under, I was afraid I'd go buy a pack of cigarettes. I was delighted to find ecigs and the 0 mg nic juice. I no longer have a desire to go down to the gas station and buy a pack of cigs. I don't understand why this concept is so difficult to understand. Ecigs are keeping me from picking up a 4 pack a day habit again. It's a good thing, I enjoy it and never plan on vaping anything with nicotine in it...IMO, of course.

We understand this and we're behind it 100%.
Once you're an ex-smoker you're always an ex-smoker. It's like Alcoholics always being Alcoholics. You always run the risk of relapsing.

If Vaping kept you from picking up a fresh pack 8 years later. We're behind you.

I think this discussion is more about people that haven't touched a cigarette their entire lives.

There is a huge difference in your case though. One of the worst things about being addicted to cigs is that it is a life long addiction. Even if you are able to quit, there is always the chance you will fall back due to circumstances in your life. I was able to quit smoking for 6 months a couple of times in my life, but found my way back to my addiction. There is a possibility that ecigs are the same way, which is one reason why I would advise people that haven't smoked to not vape.

You'd probably be amazed at some of the pms I've gotten though about this very thing. People think that because I quit 8 years ago that I'm in the clear. A lot of the pms are appalled that I picked up vaping after such a long time. I thought this discussion was headed in the same direction...

Ok, perhaps I should explain myself better.

I don't hate all people who smoke. Just the selfish ones.

Some smokers have moral values. They may be killing themselves, but they are considerate to non-smokers, and avoid hurting them with second-hand smoke. A good example would be one of my friends who smokes, she always does it outside the house, away from the kids, and never in a public place.

Others are .......s who don't give a damn about others. These people smoke near their kids, around their non-smoking spouses and their pets. They smoke in public places where lots of non-smokers have to put up with their second-hand smoke. They poison the air of nightclubs and bars, leaving the people who frequent those places with compromised lungs and shortened lifespans. These smokers are horrible people, and I hope they all get lung cancer and die painful deaths.

P.S. If you used to be the second type of smoker, but have since quit, I don't hate you. You have realized the error of your ways, and decided to change and become a better person! I congradulate and respect you for that. Its not who you once were, but who you are now that matters.

When I read the "Hate people who smoke" comment I was offended. This is the type of thinking that is prevalent in a large majority of the members of anti smoking groups like ASH.

It carries over to the PV's we all use. This is evident by the resistance to, and the total disregard of the evidence of the saftey of the ecig compared to a traditional cigarette.

People who think like this don't really mind what we are doing. They hate the fact that we are doing it and they don't approve of it. These control freaks put on the guise of caring while their true motive is to control our freedom of choice.

If it were up to these freaks we smokers and vapors would be loaded into box cars and shipped to work camps. I'll skip the shower.

ps
I hope a shark eats you.

kinda weird being a member of a vaping forum and you dont vape. Kinda like joining a Harley forum and dont own one. Avatar even...nice.

My question exactly...

You don't smoke, you don't vape....

Anyone else see the pink elephant in the room?

I agree with this for the most part.

If someone has made up their mind to start something, they're going to do it regardless. I'd rather they Vape.
But, it's still a potential addiction and we can't give a hearty "Vape up, Johnny!"

However, for the sake of our cause. I strongly think we shouldn't be touting Vaping as a First Time Alternative.
If we do, we're running the risk of our enemies latching onto the "Save the Children!" mentality even more than they already are.

Yes, it's the lesser of two evils.
But, when we say "If you're going to start an addiction, do it this way!" - we're opening a can of worms.
Instead of saving the lives of Smokers, we're doing something completely different. Something that will make our battle even harder to win.

I think for the sake of keeping our right to Vape we should stick with the "Live saving Alternative" mentality.
Especially since in 99% of the cases of Vaping, that's what this is. A life saving alternative.

Just my opinion, though.

First of all, you don't want us to "judge" people who may decide to vape, even though they don't smoke, then you judge the smokers who don't act as YOU feel they should.

Secondly, having never smoked, I don't think you HAVE the right to wish people dead because of their habits. And, in most places, smoking is banned.

I am not ashamed of who I ONCE was. I am still the SAME person. I don't wish my best friend to die because she still smokes in her home and car when I am with her.
    How dare you!!!!!!
