Why did you start vaping?

My son showed me e-cigs while we were at the mall, never heard of them but two days before I'd gone to the Dr and I was put on two meds that day so I was worried about my health. Since I'd never heard of them I hadn't done any research and bought on impulse. I paid 130. for a tiny battery and 20. on a 15 ml bottle (that looked used) ejuice. Live and Learn right. The first week I would be vaping something and think....This would go great with a cigarette.
Two weeks later I got an ego T with a pass-thru battery and haven't smoked since.

I started vaping since I got a shocking report back on my cholesterol screening. Doc, suggested ecigs and I have a friend that has vaped over a year. I asked my friend to help me out and from there I've been off analogs for 191 days now. I've progressed rather quickly went from an ego to a bolt in short order and by Dec. I had my Provari and rocking a Genesis tank. Best move I've ever made.

I started vaping because I've personally witnessed 4 close family members die from lung cancer, all related to smoking. My mother in law is in hospice this very moment, as she lives out her last few days from terminal lung cancer. She's only 57. Vaping was pretty harsh for me at first, as I would hack a lung, but after a few weeks, I really enjoy it. My original goal was to use it as a tool to quit permanently but I find I really enjoy it, and it's now a hobby for me. As long as I don't spend as much money on analogs, I'm happy.

I smoked for the better half of my life, almost 18 years. January 22nd changed that when I purchased my evic. I had played around with smaller ecigs previously, disposable gas station type models and thought about making the switch. I visited a local vapor shop, Dfw vapors, looking for a starter kit. The sales guy sold me on the evic, and I've smoked all of three analog cigs since. I don't find that an analog cig does it for me anymore, I would rather have a draw of my evic over the stale taste of a Marlboro light. I was out to the casino the other night, drunk as a skunk, and still preferred my evic over my buddies marbs. That's when I knew that I've finally broken my addiction to analogs. I may still have a nicotine addiction, but I'll take this delivery method over the other any day.

I come from a small town in Nebraska, I have been smoking since I was 15 years old. I never got up to more than 1 to 1 1/2 packs a day. I am 43 now and about to retire after 23 years in the Navy. I quit drinking several years back, no particular reason for that one, just quit. I have lost so many people to cancer that I know, including my father. Just thought it was time to increase my odds of growing old. A shipmate turned me on to "real" vaping, not you mall variety get-ups, and have been happily trying out different flavors for 3 months now.

I havent even started yet. Just accumulating info before I jump into it since these things can be kind of confusing at times.
I assume you are a smoker now, Pyramids? If so, jump now. Sure I didn't get the best or cheapest set up I could have gotten on day one, but it was the act of jumping that has me believing that, as a 2 1/2 plus pack a day smoker as of 9 days and 22 hours ago, I am done with the tobacco cigarettes. Best thing I ever did was make the plunge and now that I am feeling free of the smokes, I can research the way to go from here while I am inhaling vapor instead of smoke. Good luck to you, whenever you decide to make the jump.

I started about 10 days ago. I have been smoking for about 20 years. In college I smoked maybe a pack a day, but in the last 10 years or so I have tapered down to maybe half a pack at most. Usually 4-5 a day. I had bought a cheapo Njoy disposable at Wally World just to see if I liked it. As much as I like the idea, it was a very unsatisfying experience. My friends kind of made fun of me as well, though they did think it was a good idea to at least try to stop smoking. Recently (maybe the last 2-3 months) I have noticed many many people at work use vapes, especially APVs. I decided to give it a serious go and landed here on ECF during my heavy research on the subject. It was a fast and easy transition. I'm not the kind of guy to baby steps, so my first mod was an eVic. Love it! I haven't even had a craving for an analog.

I started using e-cigs about 6 months ago, having been a smoker for around 35 years. I literally stopped using cigarettes on the same day and haven't looked back. The prompt was health concerns and a desire to get fit again and the fact that in the UK smoking in public places such as bars, transport and shops is illegal. There are though some issues with the acceptance of the e-cig and a mixed response. I am also in contact with various Members of the European Parliament with respect to revision of the Tobacco Products Directive that has serious implications for us Vapers (see appropriate thread to read responses received).

I quit smoking by going cold turkey, but eventually the cravings got bad. Tried all the other nicotine replacement things but really wanted the smoke, so thats where the ecigs helped me out.

Yes, the 'tactile' element is a major advantage. But I wonder (like me from Portslade, UK) you see the same issues with acceptance in public places?
