I was a smoker for 21 years, 1 pack a day. I had wanted to quit being I am getting older (41) and knew that somewhere down the road my health would decline for one reason or another related to smoking. One day last month I just got in my car and went to a smoke shop and bought a Blue ecig. I thought the Blue was ok at best, but then found these forums, did some research and bought an Inferno, then Lavatube, now have a Provari. I haven't looked back since, and its been a month since my last analogue. I honestly do not think I will ever go back to analogs, the smell alone makes me feel sick now and I just love vaping.

20+ year 1-2 PAD smoker. In December of 2011 I donated a kidney to my dad. (Smoking is bad for kidneys) So since I only have one I have been looking for something that worked and nothing did. I recently got a really bad case of bronchitis this winter and a coworker turned me on to the idea of trying ecigs. After some disposables that I HATED I found a cheap beginner rechargeable a few days ago and I gave away my last pack of analogs that day.
So in short I have a health reason to want to get off of analog, and next off of nicotine...but I'll still vape :)

Tired of feeling like crap, tired of feeling winded, tired of not being able to sleep (see what I did there:p), family members and gf have been asking and asking for me to quit. Just tired of being tired and the smokes were the main source. I'm glad I quit. I also almost had a moment of weakness due to a stressful situation where I contemplated about going back to the dark side, but thank goodness for my trusty vape baby! You've just got to want it and get it done!

My co-worker started vaping with a Silver Bullet setup. Unfortunately the $150 investment for the startup kit made me hesitant. I gave it more thought when 2 months went by and my co-worker was analog free so I thought it over again...I was tired of hiding my smoking habit from my wife, smoking at work, hand sanitizer before going inside the house and beelining to the bathroom with a quick mouthwash...getting anxious over the weekend over wanting a smoke (with occasional smokes when I mow the lawn).

I told my wife the truth and she even went with me to the nearest vape shop...bought an SB kit and have been smoke free for 1 month.

Smoked for 21 years also. Pack a day, sometimes more, sometimes less. Frankly the $340 a month for cigarettes I just couldn't swing. So, cost. Continues to play a factor as I strive to spend now less and less by DIYing my own juice and then dumping that savings into gear designed to last. My health improvement in the time I've been vaping though is so much that can't just mention cost without giving a mention of that also.

Unlike everyone else responding here I did not start calling to quit smoking. I have never smoked. When a shop opened locally I looked into it to help my wife quit analogs. Never worked out. She has not reduced her smoking. Just added vaping, and lately prefers 0nic. When we were at the shop I tried some 0 nic juice. I got no hint of flavor. Just a burnt taste. But something must have stuck a cord. A few weeks later I got my own kit. I kept at it even though I got little or no flavor. After several weeks of trying different things I started having some luck. But when I went back and tried the first juices I tried they tasted better. Now I am really getting into it. I have ordered a lot of DIY supplies and am working on a machine to make my juice.

Not liking the smell of cigarette smoke / .... is I think one of the first sign that you will not turn back to smoking again. Sharing the experience with other smoker and converting them to vaping would be the 2nd sign, let me think about the other signs.

I am very happy just reading your stories, i wanted to light a cigarette to celebrate... hahahahaha... only kidding!!!

My wife and I both smoked for over 30 years each. We had tried to quit a few times before with short term success; she quit for nearly a year and me for less than a week. Neither of us could quit while the other smoked and we could never decide to quit at the same time.

Just before Christmas 2012 we accidentally quit :)

On the way home from work I picked up a disposable ecig on a whim and tried it that night. I liked the taste and feel of it so I did some research. I tried a couple of cigalike kits but the batteries didn't last long enough. By then my wife was showing interest so I picked up a couple of eGo kits with crappy clearos and gave one to her. I got some DIY stuff and less than a week later we had both moved to vaping full time.

That was over 2 months ago :)

Just wanted to know why you started vaping (is this the correct term?)
So, what is you story? :2cool:

We were taking a road trip with a friend who suffers from asthma and we both were pretty heavy smokers. I didn't want to stop every half hour to have a smoke, so we went to our local smoke shop to get a couple of cheap disposables just for the trip. We had both tried e-cigarettes when they first started being available and we didn't like them much at all. But we figured it was worth a try to make it through the trip. Our smoke shop guy kind of talked up this AtmosRX Optimus thing and we tried it in the store. It was amazing so instead of getting a couple of cheap disposables, we each got one of the AtmosRX vaporizers. That was a whole 9 days ago and I have not had a tobacco cigarette since and really as of yet have had no desire. I was a 2 1/2 pack plus a day smoker, she was a pack a day smoker of American Spirits. We have both done really well. We found a great vapor supply place about half an hour away from where we live, and are fully embracing this new style. We plan on very slowly dropping our nicotine levels, but for now we are quite happy with this change.

Was on trip, to visit a non-smoking friend, and saw a disposable while paying for fuel. Picked it up, so maybe I wouldn't have to spend as much time outside smoking, instead spending it inside with my friend. I had only seen someone use an e-cigarette a few weeks earlier (co-worker looking at early signs of COPD made the switch). Then got an inexpensive cigarette-look-alike, another disposable, then my first 510 kit. Less than 24 hours after using that 510, I no longer wanted to taste the cigarette smoke. 35+ years of smoking, and now 7 months into the next 35+ years of non-smoking. Hmmm....wonder if that qualifies me as 'over the hill' now?
