With out of control blood pressure and a resting heart rate that was the equivalent of a marathon runner, while on medication, I knew I had to do something. Being disabled, I didn't have a whole lot of things that I enjoyed doing but smoking was one of them. I had no plans on quitting it. It was the one vice I was going to keep...at least until a great friend talked to me about ecigs. I thought, at first that is, that I would use the ecig to slowly cut back and eventually quit cigarettes along with getting rid of the ecig. That is so not happening, lol I really enjoy vaping more than I ever did smoking. I am working my way down to 12mg of nic per my doctor's orders but none of them see a reason for me to go any lower than that unless I just want to. I don't want to.

One of the choices should have been as a stop smoking aid. Thats why I started vaping, I wanted to quit smoking and couldn't with the choices previously available.

That would be #2. You're using it as an NRT. The only way to use ecigs as an NRT is by stepping down the nic strength - otherwise you're just quitting cold turkey.

That's what I read #3 to be.

#3 is using it as as REPLACEMENT not a quitting tool. You didn't want to quit nicotine.

I see a difference between quitting smoking and quitting nicotine altogether. If you use it to eventually quit nicotine altogether (ie. quit smoking), your answer should be #2. If you had no intention of quitting nicotine but wanted a safer alternative, answer #3.

I purposely didn't say "to quit smoking" because most vapers consider themselves to have quit smoking by vaping instead.

One of my biggest reasons was actually because of the mess and smell, etc. I work 100% by computer and was wasting tons of time being careful with my ashes, blowing them off things, turning to the side to hit the ashtray (since I tried to keep the ashtray away from the computer), etc. I actually went to an e-cig the same week our taxes went sharply up yet again, but my main reason may have actually been to get away from the mess while I'm working (if that makes any sense), and I had thought I'd just be using it while working on the computer. I ended up liking it better immediately, though, and the rest was history. Anyway, I just thought I'd throw that reason out there for you.

I chose #3. But, it's really only a 'best fit' answer. At the time I received my first PV I hadn't even considered that it would lead me to quit smoking. I hadn't planned to quit, hadn't crossed my mind. I bought it as an interesting gadget.

I just passed the one month mark in vaping and quit after my first vape ... an absolute shock to me!

So, I can't say #3 is why I started vaping. It is, however, why I continue vaping. Well, that and the fact that I can no longer stand to smoke. I've lit up several times, and put the dang thing out after several drags. This, after smoking 1-2 packs a day for 35 years.

I chose 3 as my main reason was I like smoking, I like having something to do with my hands and just like the act of smoking. I didn't like the health consequences but try as I did I couldn't quit. #5 would be a close 2nd I don't have time to sneak out for a smoke, I do miss those extra breaks.

#8 is just funny because it is an excellent ice breaker to pick up chicks lol I lookz kewl and don't stink no mo. haha

Well then I'm not really sure what my reason would be in this poll. I wanted to replicate the smoking experience, but to get off nicotine. I've always loved inhaling and exhaling a cloud. I've used other methods to smoke and it always helped, but I couldn't do it in most places and now that I need to find a job I definitely couldn't.

I've found out using the ecig that nicotine actually doesn't do anything for me. I got some 150mg niquid and was all excited because I thought that I would finally be able to give myself the nice buzz that you can get smoking an analog. However no matter how high my nicotine levels were, nor how long I went without, I just don't get anything out of it.

The same goes for caffeine. I could chug a 64oz Mountain Dew and feel the same as I would if it was water. Speed drugs just don't affect me.

The second I got my vaping kit I stopped smoking cigarettes. Why? Because they finally accomplished their goal in taxing me out of the cigarette market and I wanted something that did not smell so bad. I didn't want the bad breath that had to be tenaciously controlled. I didn't want to teeth to get yellow and my heart and lungs give out to smoking. I hope they are reading this post.

I wanted to quit tobacco cigs because of my family. They always looked so disgusted when I would 'step out' for a smoke that I most often tried to do it surreptitiously, heh, right. Even using handwipes, gum and a lite cologne spritzer ... I always got the same turned up noses! But I loved to smoke, so finding ecigs in January 2009 made me - and my family - content.

However, my savings did not start until I found this forum 6 weeks ago. I was paying $75 + tax for my ncig kits and $20 for 5 apple no nicotine cartridges. Now that I really am SAVING MONEY, I am more than CONTENT, I am happy happy happy with my ecigs!

I cannot get by with just one tho. I usually have three primed and ready to vape!

I have spent many hours the last few days trying to educate myself on how best to fight the FDA ban on ecigs. There are so many threads, such as the ECO thread that started off great and led me to CASAA, but then just ended. It would help us newcomers if someone could go in and combine or eliminate the threads that are really no longer pertinent ...

You and CASAA are doing a great job, Kristin. Thank you so much for a 'new lease' on life!

I initially started vaping to quit smoking, a good side effect was that I found that I has so many choices in terms of flavors in e-liquid. Funny but I did not like the tobacco or menthol flavored liquids, I enjoy flavors like peach and fruit punch. There is certainly not a lack of variety when it comes to flavors, its just finding the brands that taste the best. Right now I am hooked on Peach OMG and melon Hookah flavor.
