Why do some people continue to buy premade coils and juice?

No, as I said, it was within my first month of doing real DIY (as opposed to just mixing 2 or more pre-mades). I'd had very little success with the very-simple type, so I studied every strawberry & cream recipe I could find, and used the guidelines presented in the TFA thread by @Bill's Magic Vapor -- 50% main flavor, 50% supporting creams, vanilla, and sweetener -- and came up with my own recipe for strawberry & cream that turned out to be pure magic. The very first try of it showed me it needed some minor adjustments on the proportions of some of the supporting flavors, but after those adjustments, it was absolutely wonderful; my first real "from scratch" ejuice, and my first big success. It's been my ADV for about a year now.

Actually,Andria,I know about your "strawberries & cream" recipe....;) !

I read a thread where you explained that you now loved it so much that it's become an ADV ,better than anything you'd previously bought in stores!

...and I bookmarked it as my very first DIY recipe to try...WHEN I start "seriously" DIY-ing (and I expect that to be soon, forced by gov Regs in the next year or so ;) Im not kidding -my fridge/ freezer is already full of nic!)

Started vaping with a tank with an RBA section, rebuilt from day one, apart form coils that came with the tank, ive never bought prebuilt coils and never will. I got into vaping to save money and not be locked into constantly buying a product every x weeks, too much like smoking. Besides what would you do if they stopped making the coil for your tank, become dependant on anothe rcompany. No thanks.

takes literally 5 minutes to wrap a coil and wick it after you get used to it, $10 for 30m of wire, ill take that over $20-$30 for a 5 pack of coils

Made my own juice from day one too, vape mostly unflavoured. Costs me less than 0.50 a day to vape, couldnt imagine buying premade juice either

I'm still green behind the ears when it comes to vaping. I see myself as being in that "start-up/acquisition" stage where I'm building up my basic kit of mods and tanks to propel me into the remainder of my first year of vaping. So for right now, buying pre-made coils and juices is fine in the scheme of things. I just got my first tank that has an RBA, and maybe that'll get me interested in rolling coils(?) But I'm much more interested in starting with DIY juice first over doing coils as that's the bigger portion of my consumables expenditures. And even if I do get into mixing my own juice, I'll probably still purchase some commercial juices because I really like them.

I see DIY as having an up-front cost to pay - just like getting your basic vape kit set up - that will have that cost offset over time with the net savings.

One of the wonderful aspects of vaping is that we can do whatever suits our needs and desires. There's not a "wrong" way to do it - until it crosses into the realm of accepted stupidity.

I guess everyone new starts out doing it. Once you start making your own this hobby costs next to nothing.

I couldn't imagine paying $15 for 30ml of juice again that often tastes like garbage.
I'll buy premade clapton wire, but not coils, because I'm lazy. As for juice if I didn't DIY i'd be in the poorhouse with my 13-15ml a day consumption lol... It's funny i get a 6-7 month supply for what I used to pay for a couple bottles :p

Beecause many people want simplicity. Most people just want it as easy as lighting up a cigarette, and find even refilling, changing coils and cleaning tanks a hassle. And that's also why most people using electronic cigarettes actually uses prefilled cartridges and cigaliikes.

Personally, I DIY juice and going in to RBA as soon as I get my new tanks. The savings are massive. For a month's cigarette costs, I wouldn't have to pay for anything vape related for years.

Heh. It's been my ADV for a year, seriously. The ADV before this, sweet-vapes' Blueberry Muffin... I got some of that back in summer... still got half of a 30ml bottle; since getting used to this strawberry, the blueberry just isn't that great, even though I actually prefer blueberries to strawberries.

What I stumbled on by accident: if you try to clone a given recipe... it doesn't seem to work very well; it seems really hard to nail down a given flavor profile, because of the way that flavors mingle and provide a richer flavor than just the sum of the parts. But if you try a flavor that you never previously bought... you can come up with something AMAZING.

Yes. They didn't want us to have a cheaper option, of course. Same thing is happening with vaping.

Vapez

I don't think it's so much that they don't want us to have a cheaper option, but that they have this crazy idea that a certain percentage of OUR money actually belongs to THEM, and they're determined to get it in any way that they can -- gov't as pick-pocket.

Sort of what I meant as well ;)

Although, there's enough taxes that there is.

What it really means is that it's time to VOTE OUT all these insufferable leeches with their hands in our pockets. Sure, gov't needs a certain amount of money to run, and they're getting PLENTY from all the other sources... but once we find a way to get what WE need without forking over an obscene amount of money to THEM... well that's just none of their business. We really need to make that CLEAR to them.

1. Don't really have the spare time to DIY and rebuild.

2. Am lazy.

3. Am very clumsy and badly organized.

4. Not good at making things by hand etc.

5. Can afford to buy, plug in and play. A pack of 20 cigs here costs £9+ so vaping is quite affordable even replacing coil heads every month (on an EVOD and a Nautilus mini BVC I am finding I get a month. On sub ohm tanks maybe two weeks but I'm going off of those and plan to stop using them all together, they give me wind and indigestion and you get no flavour on the inhale with lung hits.)

6. Am lucky I enjoy a few affordable juices such as HS that I can ADV. So my per ML cost is bought down from premium prices as I buy half budget and half premium juice every month, so come out around £4 per 10ml VS £6 per 10ml for premium.

I do like the ease of popping a fresh vertical coil in a subtank, or Herakles, ect. I do occasionally like to try a new juice just to experience new flavors.

That being said... I buy my twisted 28g and Clapton coils from fasttech and find that if I have a spare tank already wicked and coiled I will use that over a stock coil. I do DIY juice... and with the TFV4 is sure saves a bunch of money. Some folks like hanging out in the vape shop trying juice and new tanks.

i dont see what the big deal is if you buy online coils for my subtank are 2.50 each. They last about 3 weeks.Thats .83 a week.If you smoked a pack a day for years whats 83 cents a week.I work on cars all day long and play guitar in a band. The last thing I feel like doing after a ten hour day workin on cars is fiddle ith 28 ga wire.as for juice I buy online in bulk.48 bucks for 2 months or more supply or less than a dollar a day.........its convienient

I used exclusively pre-made coils in the days of evods or even ego-c's. First coils I ever build were in protank heads and what a pain that was. Ever since my first Kayfun I have been building my own. I still use pre-made coils for TC in sub-ohm tanks though.

DIY is one of the things I didn't even want to get involved with. It's always seemed like a huge headache to develop a great flavor on top of calculating nic content and solution concentrations and making sure that it's consistent from one batch to the next. Maybe it's easy and I should take the plunge. Maybe I just had to calculate % fraction, molarity, and molality one too many times in what seems like an endless string of chem labs.
