OP, I would try some different builds in your atomiser. Coil position, coil material and dimensions can all make a big difference in the vape. I have a few different atomisers and use different builds in them to get the best out of each one. If you can't find a build that works for you, have a look for a smaller diameter 14-18mm atomiser, my experience is that these do usually perform well when it comes to flavour. Unfortunately non of the rda's that I use are current, but you could try one of these Squonking at Fasttech: FastTech Forums

Good luck.

This thread is interesting, It is a progression that arrives at squonking that for me, kinda went like this. Subohm tank, leaks and poor flavor, RBA deck in subohm tank, better flavor, still ocassionally leaks. RDTA, Flavor good, Leaks when not level, RTA flavor good, doesn't leak, goes through juice quickly, RDA flavor nirvana, doesn't leak (easily), hate constantly having to drip...Pulse Mech BF, Liked it but it was always wet with juice somewhere, Relegated to 2nd fiddle to my RTA's. Topside Dual...now we are talking...10 mil capacity that is not constantly wet, All day vaping on an RDA without having to Drip. Now the RTA's relegated to 2nd fiddle. I think it is largely setup dependent. If it's good as a dripper, It will likely be good as a BF RDA. Preferrably top or side airflow. The bottom line is, I found what I preferred to Vape, and then thought about the most efficient means to keep it juiced up...Hello squonking!
I’d say RDAs and RTAs go through about the same amount of juice for a given type of vape. The tanks can be much smaller though which is what you may have been saying. I think of my big RTAs as sort of like squonkers with the bottle upside down on top of the coil. Different form factor, similar effect.

Use what you like best is the definite answer though.

That's one of the few non-squonk devices that I would consider buying, another being the Lost Vape Orion. I've seriously thought about both, but concluded: Nah, I don't need 'em. :)

I wouldn't want an Orion, fixed non rebuildable coils just aren't for me :(
Everyone should have a Billet Box! It has so many rebuildable & non rebuildable options!
It is truly a quality piece, it feels solid, it has a DNA 60 & it's American Made!
@Rossum You can afford it, You must of saved a fortune in the last several years not buying any RTA's :) You will not be disappointed, with a Billet Box!
Even if you are (unlikely) resale is a given! easy to get your money back :)

Yep, I've saved a fortune over the last couple of years by getting fully stocked with stuff that I really like, that will last a lifetime. So I'm good, thanks.

I've tried quite a few tanks over the years. l always went back to my subtank minis. They've been the most consistent for me. I can rebuild them in my sleep.
On the other hand, I've yet to meet a squonker that I didn't like. Of course, the Topside dual is the least expensive one I've owned besides the two I've built. Then again, I've also been squonking since the 2nd batch of Reo's were sold. I still have over 80 Joye LR 510 atty's to prove it! I pop one on my VV Woody once in a while to relive the old days. Eventually I'll get around to cutting the catch cup down.
Yep, I prefer squonking. No leaking from getting knocked over. No glass to break. No juice on my hand replacing the coil or re-wicking. Much quicker to re-wick. More juice capacity. You know when to refill by sound without having to look or getting that awful dry hit. The list goes on...
Some people just never get the feel for squonking, so for them, I'm glad there are plenty of tanks available. :vapor:

Topside Carbon looks interesting for a YiHi chipset Squonker, at a reasonable price point. I mean the Vicious Ant Spade 21700 is nice with the SX485J chipset that the SXmini SL Class uses, but the price is definitely something not to like.

But it would be nice to see if Dovpo decides to release a Topside 21700 with a YiHi chipset.

After discovering squonking I'll never go back to RTAs or dripping. One major flaw with RTAs is the glass tank. I decided to ditch them over that since the day I had to dig shards of glass out of my upper thigh with a pocket knife. They are a hassle to wick properly and dump juice until you get the right technique for that particular tank.

Since I started squonking, I have never needed to take a back up device with me (which you would never catch me without a backup when packing an RTA), the juice capacity is much better while maintaining a small form factor, and it just suits my needs much better. Squonking may not be for everyone, but for me it is either squonking or nothing since I have zero interest in tank style devices or manually dripping juice constantly. I do pull out a tank occasionally to spice up the rotation, but I never can finish a full tank before giving up on it out of sheer disappointment and seek out the nearest mech squonk mod I have loaded up.

As to the OP's dilemma, a different RDA may be the solution. Though I would try adjusting coil placement and coil size like others have mentioned before buying a new topper.

It is the squonking subforum after all!?! ;)

lolol. Sorry, old age means that I sometimes forget which thread I am in. I thought I was in Shinyitis ...

Or which forum I'm in for that matter. Doesn't bode well for those places where I am sysop or mod does it? I may have to stop all that nonsense and play dominoes in the park instead ... :tumble:

I gave squonking a fair shot.
I like everything about squonking, its more engaging/distracting for one thing.
But I just prefer simple single coil rta's on a simple mod.
Flavour wise i dont notice much in it between a good well wicked rta and a bf rda. I use unflavored mainly anyway.
I don't have bother with rta's leaking, flooding or being tricky to wick. I don't know why I don't, I just never have. Maybe if I had i would find squonking to be a better alternative.

You've got to get a BB :D

When I did I wondered why I hadn't done it before. Truly different and truly the vape is undeniably one of the best :nun:

The only guys who say things like that are those with no real world experience :)

Get a BB by SXK and then come back and comment :)

But I still respect your opinion :D
How does saying $100 is expensive for the clone version of a mod say I have “no real world experience”?

You're presumably advocating that buying a BB makes no sense because it's 100 dollars where actually it's worth every penny of that when you've tried one....I accept your POV though :)

Some things are just worth paying a bit more for :D

“Worth every penny” doesn’t affect the statement. Ten thousand pennies is ten thousand pennies.

So after reading this (very interesting) discussion, I would have given squonking another shot (with another atomizer, obviously), except for this:
Your juice gets sucked back down after it comes in contact with your messy coil & wick, every Hit!
I never thought about that, even though I wondered why my last bottle of pure VG took on a color so quickly. I must have accelerated the process by (almost?) oversquonking all the time, in a desperate attempt to get a bit more flavour, but to me it this is a design flaw - I don't see myself being able to guess exactly how much squeezing is needed to avoid back flow, each and every time. I will still use the atomizer, since I'll be starting to DYI mix soon (hopefully), and a dripper will probably come in handy to test flavours during mixing.
