Why don't we have a Kayfun (any version, originals and clones) owners group?

They work, however chain vaping them will always give me dry burnt cotton hits after awhile (along with a purple face). The situation can be avoided by constant priming, but I often forget.

Seems like I have to prime my kayfun a lot. Especially after the cotton is about a day old

Wow I don't think you could get that much cotton in that short of space with KGD Pads. Mine is much much thinner and I have some success but I'm always nervous about dry hits with a new build. The coil has to be just right to support the lighter amount of cotton.

You also have cotton on top of the juice channel, I always thought that was not good but it must mean don't get cotton in the vertical section of the channel which you have done nicely.

Thanks for all this valuable info.
As stated regal, you can place the cotton on or very close to channels, as long as they don't go down them. I like placing my tails pretty much over them, or dam close. with my cotton builds, my wick tails are of such mass that when saturated, it would be hard for them not to touch channels.

I bought my first Kayfun about 2 weeks ago..... built my first coil at 2.8 loaded with cotton .... nasty.
Tried another build - 2.0 ohm - cotton again .... nasty
Ordered they silicone and 28 gauge wire - 1.8 ohms .... nasty
Was about to throw it in my "box of shame" and give up ...... but decided to give it one more try with the silicone and 28 gauge. Watched ONE more video ..... built it at 1.4 ohms..... loaded it up ..... nasty .... then I realized I was running at 4.0 volts .....DUH .... turned it down to 3.2 volts ..... I am in Heaven!
Word of advice - never give up! The right spot/build/volt It there ..... you just gotta find it and sometimes it takes a - duh - moment to find it!

Congratulations :)

Comparing to clearos and other entry level stuff, the kayfun is really a true game changer. I usually blame circumstances and maybe lack of commitment as reasons for me giving up vaping two years ago. Looking back and now having a kf, I admit that maybe it was the lack of satisfaction that made me fall.

If it weren't for the KF, I might have never returned (and this time for good).

It took me probably about 20-30 tries using various coil configs and wicking techniques to get my Kayfuns perfect. Once you do, they're just a flat out joy of consistent perfection...

I'm using 6 wraps of 30ga Kanthal around a 5/64 drill bit (micro coil) ... 1.6ohm perpendicular across the posts, as close to the deck/airflow outlet as I can get without shorting. Wicked with japanese cotton (from a pad) ... 1/6" strip I'd say. The strips are four ply. I roll the cotton in my palm to get the two strips to "become one" ... (don't twist) ... feed through the coil (should be a little resistance pulling it through, not binding though). The tails are fanned out and resting peacefully on the deck.

I can't imagine it can get much better than this. Love the Kayfun, and love this build in them.

If your happy at 3.2v with a 1.4 ohm coil that's all that matters and enjoy it, end of story, but that is telling me that your set up is teetering on barely good enough for it should work, and work fine at 4v. In time you will get better and then, if you feel like going higher in voltage your set up will be able to handle it. I do like 1.4 ohms with 28g wire in the kayfun, although I don't use silica, but because I like a stronger vape, I vape it at 4.5v on the provari. So if in the future you do feel like increasing the power, it is well within the devices capabilities.

Could be a juice flow / feed issue.

I usually vape the setup I showed at 12w i. e. 1.27 Ohm coil at 3.7v
But today I chain vaped at 25w that's 5.4v and no nasty taste i. e. Dry hit so the kayfun can deal with this without problems.

Anyway, you stroke gold. Now you have a base you can always return to and know it will work nice for you. Time to start playing with your coils, wicking and try something that might be even more satisfying :)

In practical terms, 12w is good for an all day vape without using too much battery. 25w is cool to show off but the clouds are BIG and so is the nic buzz.

I would say at 25 watts, you definitely have mastered the kayfun.

Thank you for posting the video, it gives me a lot of confidence when thinking of going to an RBA. I do have a potentially dumb question though, I have seen a lot of the word "clone" What does this mean? In my mind clone would mean a copy of a kayfun and not a genuine one, is that correct?

That's right and your quesion is very valid, although the word is not used in its strict sense, as few are made in a real 1:1 mode. IMHO the best fitting word would be replica, copy or knockoff, in that order depending of quality and adherence to the original.

In the Kayfun case, the made in Germany original goes for around $100. There's a German knockoff that improved on the original, called the Russian that goes for about the same price. On the other extreme, there abound Chinese copies of different degrees of exactitude and build quality that sell for as little as $17. In between, you can pick some high quality Chinese réplicas and copies that are extremely well made for around $40.

Then there are what's known as a Kayfun style tank, that can be of very high or low quality (check the Erlkönigin) but that's another story...

It can be frustrating but with the help of the folks on this forum my builds are consistant now, I am vaping a home made net at 18W on the new Vamo.

Ialso think the quality of the clone is important, I haven't had any luck with anything but Ephro.

Looking for some feedback on an issue I am having.

Last Wednesday I made a new coil for my kayfun lite, and it vaped great for a couple tanks.

I've changed the cotton out three times since those great tanks, and now I'm getting very light vapor and a slight burning sensation/taste on a long pull.

Never had this problem before, especially after changing cotton out.

So I am wondering, is it the coil, or the cotton? Too much? Too little? D:

Vaped on SID at 3.8 volts, and a nemey on a fresh battery.
10 wraps or so of 28g kanthal, around 1.6ohms.

My guess is to little cotton within the coil. Sometimes you can hear if your cotton amounts are to little, there is a certain sizzle in all builds, this burn sound is common but usually stops a second after you vape and release the fire button. In a build with insufficient cotton, this afterburn lingers a while longer after fire button is released. If you hear this afterburn continuing like 2 to 3 seconds after the vape, this is a sure sign of improper wick contact.
