What boggles my mind is why did people start smoking in the first place. That is much more stupid than non smokers starting to vape isn't it?
Yup, That is the basis... Why?!?
It's already been said that many of us started smoking, for what ever reason, back in the day when your choices were smoke or chew... choice is yours. Whether it was peer pressure, wanting to fit in with a group, thought it made you look cool or tough, stress, just to be a "rebel", growing up in a smoking household where you were already addicted to a point from years of second-hand exposure... there are many reasons.
I'm sure all the reasons that applied to smoking applies to the new never-smokers that take up vaping. Everyone already knows why smokers took up vaping, it's a no-brainer really... not much of a topic.
Everyone will have their reason, and I take it that the OP was just curious... wanted a discussion about what factors were at play for the new generation of vapers.
Reduce cravings, "Self-Medicate" with nicotine, always allured by smoking, the cool guys at the shop do it..., whatever... it is interesting to hear from others as to what it was that attracted them to vaping over other "activities".
I personally enjoyed hearing from them... :D

To indulge in your enjoyment I will tell you why.. at least for me anyways....

I am not a traditional tobacco smoker.. meaning I did not smoke the common stick of death. I smoked cigars and pipe tobacco and hookahs. I took up vaping with my wife who was a smoker. She is 100% off tobacco now and weening her nic intake. I did it first with 0 nic as support. And as I researched for better ways to do what we are doing, I stumbled here and learned a lot and I enjoy this hobby. Also I can vape a cinnamon roll and not eat a cinnamon roll and not have the calories of that cinnamon roll weigh me down.

Here is something that someone said here... That he does not understand why someone would vape 0 nic. Is he trying to say that vaping is only enjoyable if there is nicotine in it? That someone cannot and should not enjoy vaping for the flavors that so many companies have worked long and hard to formulate? I do not understand his statement as much as he does not understand why someone would vape 0 nic.

And I have also encountered many people in this forum that believe that nonsmokers should not vape and that this is only supposed to be used to quit smoking. Sure they have a right to be closed minded, and I have a right to call them whatever I want to call them for being closed minded.

I agree that some may think that vaping 0 nic is ridiculous, yet for some, that's their goal in the end. Everyone is entitled to their opinion just as much as you are entitled of your opinion of them... and that's perfectly fine!
Heck, there is a thread all about quitting vaping after reaching 0mg, most would continue to vape it appears...

What you did for your wife is really commendable! You cared enough for her to join her and get enjoyment for yourself as well... KUDOS! :toast:
Thank you for your contribution!

I've never smoked cigarettes in my life, and some of my friends ask why I'd start something that is potentially hard to kick - I always say the same thing:

1 - I love gadgetry, of which there is certainly no shortage

2 - hand to mouth has made food a struggle for me, now I can get amazing flavor without the binge factor coming into play

3 - I've always been an occasional hookah smoker, so I appreciate a hearty nicotine buzz from time to time (why I don't use 0mg)

4 - I get to learn new things

5 - clouds

I love the vape and let vape sentiment - we are all just living life the best we know how, and everyone will be different and have their own preferences. Analog smokers have no patent or born entitlement to the vape world.

I can't imagine teens who vape vape 0 nic; it would be like teens drinking non alcoholic beer...
If one believes that smoking or vaping is all about the nicotine, then one could not imagine such a thing.
And the fact that it is happening proves that it isn't all about the nicotine.

So it's well past time that people who believe that start to change their attitudes and opinions.
Not saying you believe that, but just using your post to make a point.

And who, exactly, are we (meaning pretty much everyone) to judge why someone would do something that's legal?

Personally, I've suggested to my (non smoker) wife that she try vaping, to help with the mild depression she's been dealing with. Nicotine has been shown to help with such.

And seriously, folks: there've been a couple studies done that suggest nicotine (in and of itself) isn't all that addictive. Do some bloody research!
My father is starting to experience dementia, and I would really like him to start using some nicotine.
But there is no way he could vape at this point, so I am considering getting him some patches.

why would non smokers want to vape is it a fashion thing .I really don't understand

Ask yourself why a non-smoker (like you once) would ever start smoking (like you did). Most of us here were once non-smokers who at some point decided to start smoking.
At least non-smokers who decide to vape aren't sucking ash and 1000's of harmful chemicals into their bodies as you and I did.
So while you say that you do not understand why someone who never smoked would ever vape, it would appear that they're not nearly as dumb as you and I (and most people here) were for ever picking up cigs.

Yes you are correct I didn't see it that way, I would much rather see people start vaping then start smoking. Also thanks everyone for sharing their comments
