But you still smoked, then vaped to stop the urge to smoke again. Some people are vaping and never smoked

good.

if they never did it, they can't quit.

we could use them for our statistics eventually... when they all quit.

it will certainly favor us when we say nicotine by itself isn't addictive when 5 years later, nearly none of them are still partaking in any nicotine intake.

of course that's assuming some of them are using nicotine...

It looks like we vapers are the new "Beautiful People"! I mean, c'mon... look at us! :D

I think a good percentage of them had it "in them" to be a smoker... but the stigma and health risks of smoking was enough of a deterrent?
Along comes what is believed to be a low-risk alternative and it gave many of them an out?
I dunno, just speculating. Why did many of us start smoking?
I would like to think that I would have taken to vaping over smoking back in the day if I had the choice.

I agree with you in that many maybe would not have started smoking if the alternative of vaping was available.
I in no way think that vaping leads to smoking.

I think that some people to vape to help control their appetite and others do so as a stress relliever rather than pick up smoking and yet others do it for the medicinal qualitites of nicotine to help with certain conditions.

I do not know why people get all up in arms if a non-smoker decides to vape. I do not think it really harms us in any way.

if everyone vape to stop smoking.. sooner or later vaping will also stop. there has to be people who are vaping just for the sake of vaping in order to keep the vaping industry going in right direction. as much as i would hate to see people getting addicted to nic, in order for vaping industry to survive for long term, they need both ex-smokers and non-smokers. beside, they can vape 0 nic if they want to. there's always that option. once they are over 18, it's up to the individual to decide what they want to do with their body.. and i have seen some weird stuff they do to their bodies now days...

I am a never-smoker. I started mainly because I always liked the allure and act of smoking but I hated the way cigarettes tasted and smelled. Except the first drag. for some reason I love that smell. My buddy was the one to introduce me into it. I tried low nic juices for a little bit but could never get past the troat hit. I vape zero nic now. One of the other reasons I like it is I enjoy the tinkering and gadetry of vaping especially rebuildables and VW/VV devices. I've tried mechs and I don't really care for them. Another reason is my girlfriend loves the smell of the different juices. Also who doesn't love to blow big clouds? Others may have different reasons for being a never-smoker and vaping but those are my reasons.

I think its great whether u do it to not smoke or just as a hobby because its innovative, makes people use their brain, the industry itself is making jobs for ppl who can be creative and make money. Ive personally met people who i wouldve never talked to and expanded my own hvac-r work. It feels good to be able to share a hobby with someone that doesnt involve breaking things or spending gas money (aka my jeep clubs lol) idc if you vape to not smoke or just because its a hobby. Its all good! Vape on

I am as addicted to the hand/mouth connection as I am the nicotine. I find that in itself is comforting to me. And you will have to agree the flavors that are out there are wonderful. I had much rather see someone pick up vaping 0 nic juice than going for cigarettes like I did so many years ago. It is evident by the Hookah Bars popularity and the people that enjoy those establishments.

I guess I feel like even a non smoker should enjoy vaping as much as I do because it really is their choice and I am glad that there is a healthier alternative for everyone.

I quit smoking 4 years ago, after smoking since i was 15. I picked up vaping after i started looking for a house to buy, and my employer of 22 years says he is considering closing the business. That sent my stress level through the roof, i sat several times at the convenience store fighting off buying a pack. I knew i was going to sooner than later. Fortunatly, my wonderful post grad daughter knew this as well and steered me to vape instead of smoke. So im 52, have no cancer anywhere, thank god, and i vape at 6nic. Im healthy, happy, less stressed, and still employed. Oh yea, and ive lost 10 lbs, instead of pizza and chips, i buy pricy juice. Yea for me!

I in no way endorse vaping for non smokers but this might be a valid reason for some.
Probably healthier to vape that to be overweight.

From Mt Baker newsletter on 12/19/14
"Two: Lose Weight
Not surprisingly, the second most common New Year's Resolution is the desire to lose weight. While normally this is not something you would consider vaping to be associated with, it actually has the ability to make a dramatic positive impact on attaining your goal. Think about a time when you were dieting and you just craved that cinnamon roll. Did you stick to your guns and deny yourself, or give in? Either way, it was a difficult situation. Now consider this, you have resolved to lose weight this coming year and you start craving cinnamon rolls. Instead of running to the closest bakery, you pull out your e-cig and start vaping the delicious cinnamon roll e-juice, allowing you all of the flavor with none of the calories. You can keep your resolution without sacrificing the taster of your favorite treats!"

I think this is a legit way of thinking about vaping. I wasn't a smoker before I started vaping, but I have had far fewer cravings for sweets since I started. Losing weight wasn't my primary motivation, though. I used to be a pretty avid hookah smoker, but I trashed my rig in a fit of rage after a few mishaps with coals. Vaping allows me to continue what is, for me, is a stress relieving activity, with a lot less mess. My decision to vape was not at all related to looking "fashionable," or whatever.

I think we need to stop judging people who choose to vape for reasons other than to quit smoking, and just focus on the vaping experience and guiding others, regardless of why vapers on this forum choose to do it.

I started vapeing because I missed smoking. I smoked for probably 5 years, some heavier than others. Then the fiance I am with now finally gave me the motivation to quit smoking all together. I have always missed smoking for one reason or another. Whether it was the throat hit, the simple act of smoking, the nicotine; idk. But once vapeing started getting bigger, I took it up. It also helps to note that I love toys! As you can tell from my profile pic, big or small, I love them all. I've got a custom built computer, several machines and quite a few tools in my garage, a nice home theater, and now a growing vapeing collection. I love experimenting with different flavors, different tanks, different batteries, and am going to start getting into rebuilding my own coils (gotta keep my hands busy). So that's why I got into it. A smoker who quit but missed it (not the lingering smell, the morning coughs or anything like that).

Maybe they started vaping instead of starting a smoking habit? Since when do people not partake in enjoyable activities anymore? I smoked for 37 years...but I use Splenda. I don't need to lose any weight, but I like Splenda better than sugar. I wonder if they're bashing me on the Weight Watchers forum....

I was smoke free for three years, then met my soon to be wife who was a smoker I found my self after a while always snacking and didn't think any of it at the time. Then one day a friend of hers interduced her to vaping so she bought a e cig. At first she did both now she just vapes, after I realized I was gaining a few pounds I started putting two and two together, being around her and smelling the smoke of a cig I was I was craving ciggs with out knowing it so I started vaping and lost the urge to snack along with the pounds I gained. Soon after she went straight to just vaping and we are 3 months into it....

Back when I was 16 I started smoking because of stress. I know teenage stress isn't even close to adult level stress, but to a teen who hasn't fully matured yet, it can still have just as bad effects and can sometimes be more then they can handle. So while many others started because they wanted to look cool and stuff. I started cause i needed a way to relieve stress. I knew the bad effects of it. But I did it anyways. The funny thing is the first time I tried an analog I didn't even like it. About coughed up a lung. It was a while before I picked up another but then I did. I smoked for 14 years. I was hesitant to go over to vaping but I am glad I did. I only wish these had been around when I was a teenager.

Fact is teenagers and young adults are going to pick it up for at least 1 of several reasons.

1. Too look cool. This was the main reason many teenagers picked up smoking and why many are picking up vaping now. Luckily those same teens can at least get 0 nic and still look cool without exposing themselves to nicotine. Will they stick with it? Hard to say. Though if they decided the nicotine route they could become hooked. But it wouldn't be near as bad of an addiction as many of us ex smokers faced getting off of analogs.

2. Curiosity: Many are just curious about what it is like These are ones that likely will also be using 0 nic or low nic juices. If they go the analog route though their likely to get hooked on a pretty tough addiction because of their curiosity. Those that go the vape route will either find they like it and decide they want to stick with it or they will end up quitting.

3. Stress and or Depression: Many start because they are stress. Others because they are depressed. Some for both reasons. I started smoking because of stress. I still need my nicotine now to help with both stress and depression. These are likely the ones that will becoming lifers to vaping if they start it. Yeah it would be nice to be free of the nicotine. But if it helps to reduce stress and helps me relax a bit then it is worth it. Stress itself health wise can be almost as bad for you as analogs. Fact is there are people out there that need something like this to help relax them. If a teenager needs a way to relax, i'd much rather see them turn to vaping then smoking. Chances are if they start with vaping first they won't need to use as much nicotine as us ex-smokers. So if they were to ever decide to quit, it would be easier for them.

I started vaping the same as 99% of people on here to stop smoking.I love vaping don't get me wrong, but why would non smokers want to vape is it a fashion thing .I really don't understand

You gotta think of what was the attractiveness of cigarettes way back when?

I can't imagine teens who vape vape 0 nic; it would be like teens drinking non alcoholic beer...

The thing is if they are doing it to try to look cool. It would be easy to lie to their friends and say it has nicotine in it. These would be ones who want to look cool but aren't gutsy enough to vape it with nicotine. lol

If e cigs were around when I was in high school, I would have vaped the highest nic available...

And who, exactly, are we (meaning pretty much everyone) to judge why someone would do something that's legal?

Personally, I've suggested to my (non smoker) wife that she try vaping, to help with the mild depression she's been dealing with. Nicotine has been shown to help with such.

And seriously, folks: there've been a couple studies done that suggest nicotine (in and of itself) isn't all that addictive. Do some bloody research!

I have seen a few threads here on ECF from people who were either successful ex-smokers or non smokers who took up vaping in support of someone close to them who was trying to quit smoking. I really admire them.

My daughter and I had quit smoking around 8 (almost 9) years ago. Almost 3 years ago, cravings and stress were making starting to smoke again seem very attractive. My daughter had heard somewhere about ecigarettes. We looked into it, hemmed and hawed, and tried to work through things for a couple of months. She finally broke down and bought a couple of disposables to see if vaping could get rid of the cravings. The disposables worked, and we are still very happy ex-smokers with no desire to smoke analogs.

It is not my business why someone chooses to vape or smoke. I am just very happy that vaping is available to anyone who wants to use it.
