Just throwing this theory out with the rest:
RX200 buyer comes to vape shop with their new shiny mod and two batteries from another box mod (they are pretty common nowadays). Needs another battery to try it out and gets one from the person behind the counter. Slaps batteries in said mod whips out a RDA (looks to be some type of custom drilled device) with some alien/clapton/skeletor/fused mess coil (gotta chuck the cloudzzz brah!) Cranks it up to 200W cus it can. Hits fire. Unmarried/random/unbalanced battery takes the brunt of the load and says fsck it I'm outta here. Mod starts to sizzle/smoke/malfunction. User takes cover off to see and battery finally lets loose thus, burning the user's hand.
Why someone would walk in with a new mod and TWO new batteries doesn't sound very plausible. I just purchased my mod and a set of batteries just for it. i chose LG HG2 as I need the mahs and am a lower wattage vaper normally (30-40W TC mode). Made logical sense to me.
Looking at the damage to this person's hand it does appear that it is on the outside of the fingers meaning that the battery door story may be plausible. I don't have mine yet but looking at photos of the mod if you go to grip the battery door the outside of your fingers will be the first exposed when you go to remove the cover and in danger if a battery is venting.
I doubt the battery spontaneously vented on its own. It had to have a load or short of some kind and I am leaning more towards load. Most 18650 failures I have seen on the 'tube have been somewhat controlled to a certain point. Sizzle sizzle smoke smoke then the potential for boom. I have yet to see one that just goes boom without some type of indication that it is running away.
Also looking at the damage the two back cell holders have equal burn damage leading me to believe that the front cell was the one that vented, and more than likely the house battery.
Just my simpleton analysis.
Can't wait for mine to get here! I think the wife is going to make me wait until christmas to open it up and play. No worries though as I'll have a few tanks and drippers TC ready
Oh and who the heck is MXJO and when did they hit the scene? Rhetorical question as I have seen the test results
MXJO Yellow/Silver 35A 3000mAh 18650 Bench Test Results...only a 15A-20A battery, but near an HG2
I just scratch my head asking why would anyone buy a cell from a completely unknown (new-ish rather) company? Are LG/Samsung/Panasonic/Sony not reputable enough?
Oh and the user account and story has been removed from reddit.... Hmmmmm.....
