SUBJECT: “The Truth About The Electric Cigarette.”
To whom it may concern:
Please review the attached copy of my email message about electronic cigarettes to Public Citizen. It provides factual information, supported by references, that may contradict what you have heard from organizations such as the American Lung Association, American Cancer Society, and American Heart Association. No doubt, you want to present a balanced look at all sides of the controversy over electronic cigarettes.
I smoked for 45 years and tried nearly every product on the market to stop. After switching to using an electronic cigarette, I have been smoke-free for over a year (March 27, 2009). No longer am I kept awake at night, listening to myself wheeze. The wheezing is gone. I no longer cough up a gob or two of phlegm every morning. Sorry to be graphic, that that’s the reality of the situation.
My case is far from unusual. We estimate that over 100,000 people are now former smokers who have substituted inhaling vaporized nicotine for inhaling deadly
tobacco smoke. We are confused, frustrated, and outraged that organizations that claim to have public health as their mission are trying to eliminate this product.
If these organizations, aided and abetted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, succeed in their mission, the health of tens of thousands of e-cigarette users will be placed in jeopardy. Many will relapse to cigarette smoking, to sicken and die. What is even worse is that over 40 million continuing cigarette smokers will be denied the opportunity to follow in our footsteps and finally regain their own health.
