Finding paper has been my nemesis.......<snip> I can't write without flex nibs. Anything else feels scratchy and skips (because I try to flex it). I destroyed 2 Targa's because of that. I could cry now. At the time they were cheap. Are you on the forum at fountain pen network?

Oooh I hear you. I have had that problem even with ordering journals, which for goodness' sake SHOULD have fountain-pen-friendly paper! I horde paper once I find a good brand! In the past I've found stationery supply stores and bought REAMS of special papers at a time. Try "Rhodia" in legal pads, and of anything Clairefontaine brand. Have you ever visited the Pendemonium - Fountain Pens, Pencils, Inkwells, Stationery, and other Writing Equipment for Fountain Pen Enthusiasts website? Over the years I've gotten great advice from them on best papers. You can email them and ask questions, tell them Marla Wilson sent you, they're a great resource and very friendly. In the days when I used to attend fountain pen shows annually, I'd see them all the time.

I like flex nibs also, but not in the league you're in with Japanese brush nibs! Now THAT is flex :) I can also handle stubs etc, I like 'em all.

I don't hang out at any fountain pen forums any more, because I get a horrible case of gotta-have-it-itis from the exposure. I just can't handle it! I've learned that about myself, I can only handle one addiction at a time :)

I have no plans for a New Years celebration since I'll be at work until after 11pm tonight and then have to turn around and be back again at 7am tomorrow. :( Not a lot of party time available. I'm okay with that...I haven't partied in a long time.

I feel your pain, Thaya!! I've just finished working 3-11 pm last night, had an 8-hour turnaround, and went back in from 7 am till 12 pm today.

May you have the strength to get through the last hours of your shift. I'm toasted! I'm going to lay down for a nap. Hope to see everyone later.

Happy New Year :toast:

I hope everyone is having a great day and it's the first of many more to come. I'm still at work after 2 hours of sleep but I'm hanging in there. If I'm still alive I'll see you all later. ;)

Let's hope your new agency finds you a couple of long term wonderful people to care for with lots of good, interesting hours. Like a couple that can travel and do day trips and play cards and have interesting stories to share. I wish this for you. Of course, stinking rich and need to reward you for your kind care. Hours spent that make you smile and feel good about what you do.

Ok. No more shopping for me. No more spending money. I am done. Can not go look at pretty things or accessories that I do not need. No more anything for a while. Must resist coops. Must resist.......

Starting the New Year on the right foot. Happy with my Provari mini and extension cap. Works great with my 510 attys. Like it better in 18490 mode, more comfortable for me to hold and use. Happy, happy, and more happy.

We will see how long this lasts.

The gentleman I bought the Provari from knew I liked my 510 attys so he included 2 pretty drip shields (gold and purple) in the box as a Christmas surprise for me. I love them. Makes the setup look regal and pretty. Never used one before. I think they work because I have not had to wipe up errant drops of juice off the device. That was a generous gift and is greatly appreciated and will be well used.

If anyone is interested there is a red Provari Mini on Ebay no reserve starting price is $90 with only 1 bud so far, it looks like new and red is a new color. Also, it sold once before but the person that bid didn't pay so it sold that time for $142, a good deal.

this is not meant for Shari! Shari you must resist! I read your post seconds after I posted, hence the edit here

they sell for good prices on there. I was looking for something else and that popped up. The Trident is cheapest at Fasttech but, not a bad price at discount vapors. I'm on a mission to see if I can get one

What a way to start off the new year. As I mentioned earlier, I had to work til 11pm last night and then turn around and work again at 7am. I ended up getting about 2 hours of broken sleep last night, but I figured what the heck...I can make it and then take a nap when I get home. It would have worked out okay...except that my unreliable relief never showed up! She called at 3pm (starting time) to say she was on her way and would be there in 45 minutes. By 6pm when she hadn't called back or showed up, my manager said she would come in and finish the rest of the shift for me.

Our first reaction was to worry that something had happened to her, but it turns out she gave 3 different excuses for being late. She told me she would be late because of the snow that was falling and making the roads slick. Ten minutes later she told my manager that she had no gas or money and was trying to get some, then she would be in. The person who answered the phone at her house 2 1/2 hours later said that she had taken her child to the hospital because of an illness (hand, foot and mouth disease...similar to chicken pox) we all know he had last week and was recuperating nicely from as of last night. She's known to make up stories and excuses as it suits her needs.

Bottom line: I'm finally home, plenty the worse for wear, but hanging in as long as I can so I don't screw up my sleep too badly tonight since I have to do an afternoon/midnights double tomorrow. I'm too old for this crap!

Don't like what you posted, Thaya, but like that you are comfortable enough with us to vent here.

That is SO unfair of that inconsiderate co-worker of yours. You deserve so much more than the garbage you deal with where you are.

Shari's wish for you this year is mine, too--getting some good clients at your new job, so you can tell this lot of losers, "Take this job and shove it!"

Girlfriend has to work over tomorrow, she is one of 3 people qualified for the work on the line, one is pregnant so she cant work that line (enzymes) and the otjer is off for medical leave (cancer treatment). I understand that she is needed but before Christmas she had worked 21 days without a single day off. And now she has only had 7 days off in 3 weeks, that would be unpaid leave due to plant shutdown if she hadn't put in last minute vacation days.

And company wont hire anyone new to work in the department. And they pay only about half what other plants pay for the same job, and does about twice the work.

I wish I had of known you after my dad died. I tossed quite a bit of old inks. I just couldn't deal with seeing if they were still good or not at the time. As it is, my dad (who should have known better) believed in the advice of a Staples store clerk and filled them with drawing ink. He was a master at working with them. So as far as I know, I have 50+ old pens that need a complete overhaul now. Most are not branded and I don't think they are high $. They were just everyday work horses from 3 generations. Some even had bite marks. I don't know who did that. I suspect that's only about a third of what dad used to have as it was. Try explaining to someone that at one time pens weren't disposable and they'd think you were nuts.

I picked up a Pilot caligraphy cartridge pen for about $10 and that is smooooooth. I'm impressed. I'm ready to pick up 2 more sizes. It's better than their Varsity. In another class compared to Shaeffer's caligraphy cartridge pens. The smaller 2 sizes aren't at an extreme obligue angle so they'd work for daily writing IMO. They are long though. I have a hard time putting them in a pocket of a purse but no leaking and I've been carrying that for over 6 months now. Amazon carries them too. I wanted to try Noodlers Arab or Larmy Safari but haven't since I got the Pilot. The brush pen is a no name from the art store too and I've got to find the supplier just in case ... It's a sketch pen. They all are for me. Writing is seconary with computers. I'd love to go to a show. I'm also a fan of old technical pens / rapidographs. I just like the line quality.

My problem with the forum was that I'm interested in a different aspect. Sketching and daily writer. Cheap can work.

Thanks Shari and Dolores for your kind words. I'm having second thoughts about even changing jobs since it doesn't pay that much more, and they don't offer the vacation or personal days that I get at this job. I have 1 week vacation now and in June I will get 2 weeks vacation. Hard to give that up since I've never had a job that offered it before. I'll see how it goes.

Top, I feel for your girlfriend's situation. They're going to burn her out completely at this rate. Has she thought about applying for a job at one of the plants that pays more with less work involved? It would be worth it if she could get her foot in the door.
