Why is NR-R-NR wire good? Why not use the roll of 28, 30, 32 gauge kanthal? What is the difference?
I am confused. I seem to be spending a lot of time in that state lately...
With NR-R-NR wire, only the "R" part heats up. Some heads need NR-R-NR wire because they have plastic near the mounting posts that will melt with straight R wire. But that's pretty rare, you can just use Kanthal in nearly everything these days.
I like the NR-R-NR because it gives a bit more freedom moving the coil around (the coil doesn't have to be right up against the posts) so I can play with coil positioning. However, since my welder is very primitive (power supply, capacitor, alloigator clips) I haven't done too well making the combo wires. Also, I figured the pre-welded wires would give me more consistent coil resistance (mine tend to be all over the place and usually lower R than I wanted).
