Yet another diacetyl question

I am curious. It seems that the vaping community as a whole has concerns about diacetyl (among other things) in liquids. Several juice vendors advertise D-free liquids (Fuzion, virgin vapor, others), yet it seems that they generally only offer select flavors without the chemicals. Same thing with the DIY flavor vendors. So my question is, does diacetyl really add that much flavor benefit? Otherwise, you would expect the companies to simply substitute the safer options. I mean, what with the history of lawsuits (like the tobacco class actions, for example), you'd think they would be at least looking at it in terms of tort protection (otherwise known as CYA, cover yo ...). So, the only reasonable conclusion I can think of is that the products without must not perform (taste) as well, leaving consumer demand for the stuff made with Diacetyl. The main reason I am wondering is that I do intend to DIY in the near future, and two of my favorite liquids have cream flavoring in them.

Thoughts?

Thoughts on diacetyl are mixed. Simply Google "popcorn lung" and make your own decision. The examples you will find come from workers in factories being exposed to large amounts over long periods of time. We are using much smaller amounts, but we are heating it and directly inhaling it into our lungs.

Do my juices have it? Yes, a lot do. Do you want it in yours? That is a question that you want to answer after you research and weigh out your risks.

There are legitimate arguments both ways. Take nothing I say as agreeing that it's ok. :)

to ecf and the wonderful world of vaping. I think it is funny that I do not want to use a flavoring that has this in it after smoking for over 40 years and not worrying about 4000 chemicals. The real problem for me is that I don't know if the vendor is telling the truth regarding the use of this chemical. Everyone said that Vaping Zones Creme Brulee had it and I wrote to them and was specifically told that they did not use it. Someone is lying to me and I really can't tell who. Rather frustrating to say the least. I do prefer not to have it in my juice. And you couldn't pay me to eat a bag of microwave popcorn. Good luck to ya.

After smoking for 25 years and lying to myself about the crap I was inhaling and the odor I carried around on me, I quit. Now being conscious of my inhaling just seems a good plan. I only use a few base flavors that have all ingredients specified. Yes I do miss out on some that I am sure are very tasty. If you choose to vape something that has guaranteed health issues than don't plan on seeking damages from a flavor maker.

There is increasing evidence that diacetyl COULD cause the lung disease bronchiolitis obliterans (popcorn lung) and compensation has been awarded to people that have been exposed to this substance over a period of time. The chemical diacetyl itself is used to produce a buttery flavour and tbh there are other substances and flavourings on the market that do the same thing. If i'm honest, i'm not too bothered about it as mentioned above, i didn't worry about the 4000+ chemicals that i was pumping into my body through smoking. I won't go out of my way to find and vape liquids with it in but if it's there then so be it.

Beautifully put. And I concur.
