Yet another newbie with questions

Hello all, I am obviously new to this forum. I stumbled upon this amazing forum and group of intelligent people, and like many i'm sure, am overwhelmed. So I've been on analogs for 15 years and decided to try out an e-cig about a year ago. Unfortunately, I paid $50 for a starter kit from a store by my house because I jumped the gun and didn't do any research. I ended up buying a kit from a local Chicago based company, and thought that the lack of consistency was just the way these things work. So I got fed up lately from buying their screw on refills that don't work 1 out 5 times, and wanted to really research this stuff now.

I have been browsing here for countless hours today reading detail after detail and I must say that most of these acronyms on here are somewhat confusing. I was hoping that someone on here could help me with a little advice as to what I could put together as a newbie, such as an ego type. I have read many good reviews, but I want something that is simple and doesn't take much knowledge to maintain and is pretty consistent with a good feeling. I don't really like funky flavors (yet) just good old tobacco taste. Please feel free to make fun of me, and don't send me searching through the forums again! (lol, my eyes are killing me!)

Thanks in advance, I look forward to picking all of your brains!!

Ok, here are my suggestions.

1) Get two 650mah eGo Twists. They are small and pocketable, but are variable voltage so you can adjust the voltage to suit the tank/cartomizer/atomizer and juice that you are using. Two of them will cost you around $45. You will also need a charger for it. That's about $8 - $10.

2) Get two Vivi Nova Mini's (some vendor's call them "Vivi Nova Slim"). They (and the full size Vivi Nova) are, in my opinion, the easiest and most dependable juice delivery systems available. They completely unscrew for rinsing and cleaning and have replaceable heating elements (i.e., heads) and even come with 3 heads - 1 each of 1.8ohm, 2.4ohm and 2.8ohm. With the Twist, you can use each of those heads - you will just want to crank the voltage down on to about 3.7 - 3.9volts on the 1.8ohm head. Two of them will cost you around $25.

3) Go to the General E-Juice subforum here and read a lot of threads and get some ideas about juices that sound good to you. If you want tobacco flavors, check out Heather's Heavenly Vapes and Ahlusion. (There are active threads on both of those vendors in the e-juice subforum.)

4) If you have any money left over, get yourself a 1.5ohm or 2.0ohm dripping atomizer. It will be really handy for tasting juices without filling an entire Vivi Nova tank to test out a juice. Get a couple of drip tips for it while you're at it. That's about $10 for an atomizer and a couple of cheap acrylic drip tips.

Same here...So much to understand and what to trust. I use a pig-cig from lecig. This thing is better than any cigarette I have ever smoked. I have several that I keep fully charged. It's about 6 inches long, has a big black battery 1300mah which means it works for about 13 hours of heaving vaping. It has a clear liquid tank that I fill up about twice a day. I just learned to shut the amount of nicotine ( mg ) down before I go to bed, or my heart pounds. I use 24mg during the day and 8mg within 4 to 5 hours of going to bed.

I have spent probably several thousands of dollars over the last 2 or 3 years with devices of all kinds. The technology they have today actually works. This may have been true several years ago, maybe I just did not see it. But this thing works for me.

A hearty welcome, if you have not quit smoking now is the time. We are here for you. I'm new too. Smoke free for 60 days.

I'm a little new myself, but you DO want to get a quality set up. Those screw in cartridges Will cost in the long run. You can refill the carts a few times though, so don't throw them away. Purchase some good juice and refill! I just got some Highbrow tobac de perique, and I think it comes close to real tobacco. Your opinion may vary, Some vapers like syrupy, goopy sweet e-juice. Each to his/her own.

I purchased the v2e-cig and while it's very good quality, the batteries are small and wont hold a charge for too long. If you go the cig-a-like route, buy an extra battery so you won't be stranded while away from the house.

My next purchase will probably be a Volcano Lavatube. Many people here seem to like the Joyce eGo Twist. You'll have to eventually decide whether you want simplicity and cheap, or something that will last a long time and not let you down.

Welcome to Ecf . Now as you have already mention an EGO type setup , I would suggest you try an EGO "Twist " , or the new Ego "spinner" , or even a KGo VV device . The Kgo , and the EGo "Twist" is around 30.00 , and with either of those , maybe a Vini_nova mini . Cheap , and easy to fill . Consistent vapor and flavor . All told , with shipping is still probably less than 50.00 , Oh and the Ego , , you may need to buy a charger , but their cheap . The Kgo , is also a pass through type device ) plugs into your computer USB slot to charge , and it comes with the needed cable . These are all varible voltage type devices , which allows you to dial in your perfect vape . Hope that helps Good luck.

Hi Littleski. Welcome to the ECF. For a device like you mentioned with an eGo form factor and ease of use and reliability there are many options for you. Heres some
1. Ego Twist Vision Kit (V2 Long Wick)

2. KGO kit1100mAh by SLB

3.GP eCo-V CE2 Style 650mah Case Kit (NEW)

These three are tried and true reliable options, all from first rate vendors.
Number one is the top tier option. It includes two variable voltage batteries (3.2v-4.8v) and two good quality clearomizers.
Number two is a good reliable kGo kit which includes two standard atomizers and a few pre filled carts. About as basic as a good start gets.
Number three is a middle ground option. It includes two variable volt batteries(3.2/3.7/4.2v) and two good clearomizers.

Any of these three kits would be a good place to start, all of these kit will require liquid to fill the attachments with , and you would be well advised to at minimum get a package or two of simple cartomizers. I prefer Boge(still) and the 2Ωversion would work well on any of these kits.
An average vaper will use between 1-5ml of liquid per day. Begin your journey for a new favorite liquid with smaller sized bottles. Thats all I can think of you may want to know right now. If theres anything else you need to know just ask. Good Luck. Happy Vaping.

Edit: Option three is currently not available, but can be had at other vendors for a similar price. These three kits show you what is avaiable in the class of device you are looking at having.

I agree with Pappy, if someone had come straight out and given me that advice when I started it would have saved me a lot of money.

When it comes to juices PG delivers a lot of taste but not a lot of vapor. VG delivers a lot of vapor but the taste tends to be a bit lacking. Most vendors use a mix of PG and VG to deliver taste and vapor, a mix of 80/20 PG/VG ratio works best for me but everyone is different. Popular juices are popular for a reason, they are good, don't shy away from them because you think it's just hype.

Welcome to the Forum, don't be shy about asking questions, plenty of people are willing to help.

Welcome to ECF and a world with out the stinkies. I love the twist battery for stealth vapes. Fists nice in a pocket. They have a safety feature that is handy. you can shut them off so they don't cook in your pocket when that button gets hit by what ever. I learned about it the hard way when I thought I broke the damn thing. Not to many PV's come with instrucitons. at least none of mine.
anyway welcome.

Thank you EVERYONE for all of the replies.

Pappy--I checked out the links you sent, I might just have to order the twist kit you posted. My only issue I guess is the hardware. I see everyone mentioned pieces by name, but I only had a simple 2 piece previously so I have no idea what this stuff is or what function it serves. I really wanna nail this down so I don't have to bug anyone often, and I could too help the newbs. I just need something simple yet functional and it looks like the twist is the way to go.

The Simple part is the battery, the confounding part more often than not is the feed device. Whether it is a clearo, or a vivi, or a carto or even a simple atomizer, this is the part that you must adjust yourself to. All of them have thier own idiosyncrasies that you have to be able to right yourself with or they too will become problematic. The top mounted coil clearomizers almost always need some tipping to re-wet the wicks, the cartomizers almost always need some dripping to keep the filler saturated , the bottom coil clearos have to be filled upside down etc, etc,etc... The twist is almost a no brainer, the vivi nova is a very strong contender for my own personal favorite atty tank ever. You have to be the one to decide what is right for you, without trying something how will you know what you would like more? Let us know what you decide. We are all here to help if you have any further questions. Good Luck. Happy Vaping.

All I can say is pick away at everyone's brain. That's what I did. and by the way
idiosyncrasies. Now that's a really big word. LOL. You've got a lot of info to start with. Just don't be intimedated by all the info you can receive here. Welcome to the group and the family. Congrats on quitting the analogs.

littlski717, this is the place to learn, we all have and thats why we stay on the ECFFORUM. I personally like the Vivi Nova 2.5ml, or sometimes called the shorty. I have use most all of the cartomizers out there and this one works the best for me and also easier to clean, fill with juice and replace the coil/wick assmly for about 2.00 Dollars when they quit performing. You can also replace the clear tank for cheap also.It has no filler material to burn and taste bad and with the cartomizers with filler material, once they are burned no amount of cleaning will help to bring it back, so you can still use it. Been vaping for about 2yrs. Keep asking questions, thats the only way to learn. The only dumb questions is the ones we don't ask. Happy vaping

Ok. Once again thank you all. Im an electronics engineering major, and yet im struggling to get a grasp of the concepts behind these goofy device terms. Lol. So lets see for my first attempt if i have this right, and please correct me if im wrong.

Assuming I start with the twist starter kit, i would really just need to grab the cartomizers that are bigger and (better?) than what comes in the kit. Im currently under the assumption the the cartomizer is the 'filter' part of the cigarette, and buying the tanks allow me to just fill up with the fluids and vape away. And obviously i want to grab some of the liquid to fill the tanks... Is there anything else necessary to have a well funtioning and stable setup??

Hi! You haven't got it quite right yet. ;) You have a battery, then you have an atomizer (atty) which heats the liquid and a cartridge that holds the liquid. The inside of the carts look like cigarette filters, but the spongey stuff actually holds the liquid. A cartomizer is one piece that is a cartridge and an atomizer together. See? Clear as mud.

You can drip directly onto the atomizer and use a drip tip; use an atomizer with a cartridge; or a cartomizer, which can be simple, like a clearomizer or nova, or on to big tanks that holds a lot of juice. I could be completely wrong, btw, but this is where I've gotten so far. Vape On!

ETA: The equipment he's using is dated, and he doesn't address tanks in this video (there are others that do), but it should give you a basic idea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxirXIHXysg

I'm not familiar with the twist set up (I use Volts and Volts X2s),,,,,,,,but something that's been very useful for me to have is a car charger,,,,,,,

wonderful for trips,,,,,,,,and to use with pass throughs while driving,,,,,,,,

and also great if the electricity goes out in the house,,,,,,,,hurricane, snowstorm, etc.You might see if the Twist set up offers a car charger.

That's ok. This stuff made us ALL feel dumb at one point . . . and still does sometimes.

Go to YouTube and watch videos. It's so much easier to understand when you can actually see it in action rather than reading about it.
