good advice, I'm done buying PV's I think I'm all set there and I just stocked up on maintenance stuff DIY, cartos and I still have a ton of attys left over from my last bulk costco like buy so my bank account should be safe fore another 6 months or so. I really started seeing a saving when I started getting good at DIY and stopped buying vendor juice I was dropping a couple 100 bucks a month there.

I've been vaping for a year now and am glad that I have never really felt the need to have the latest, newest and most expensive.. even if I could afford it. eGos with LR boge cartos work very nicely for me. I also love the little box mods with a boge carto. I am all about getting one quality item that does it all. I'm sure the Darwin and Provari are nice and all but you still gotta feed it. I have an Old Goat bottom feeder and it works great with the resurrector, great vapor, flavor and very little fiddling and filling.. plus it's only $30 shipped! I did drop $100 on a nice vv bottom feeder and a voltmeter. It wasn't an impulse purchase.. I wanted something that did it all.. variable voltage and a feeding system. I did lots of research and found what I wanted and I love it! Boge cartos and 901 LR attys are it for me. As for juice.. I do a bit of DIY and I've found that tasty vapor has great, quality juices and if I buy the 1oz nic juice and mix with the 4oz doubler I can get 150ml for around $36 shipped (if I buy when they are on sale each Monday)

I am all about getting what I need and a little of what I want. I do want a empiremod drip shield (when they come back in stock).. don't really need it but it would be really nice cause the 901 tends to leak if I'm not careful.

Great advise Keezy. Initially I went into vaping to get off the analogs with the attitude of "whatever it takes" to do that. I went nuts ordering flavors to find the right one(s); and of course I had to get back up batts for my back up batts. Now I am interested in a little DIY and ordering things for that. I have a drawer full of premixed e-liquids that are vape-able in an emergency, I will keep them for a while. I have also shared my excess stock pile with family members to convert them, so I don't feel it was a total wasteful excessive spending spree the last few months. One thing I have found helps me is I had to stop spending so much time on the forum reading about all the newest and greatest items and juices out there. It was tempting me too much to buy buy buy. I have a pretty good idea now of what works for me equipment wise and what flavor categories I lean towards, so the spending had slowed down quite a bit...until I decided to dabble in DIY.

I am also thinking about something else now...that I don't plan to vape forever. Blasphemy, I know. I hope one day to be free of it all. ETA: With that being said, I won't be one that ever buys a provari (for example).

Hey, DIY will leave you with enough money (after a while) to get whatever that new blasphemous object is.

Keezy, another thing I fell into the trap of at the beginning as a noob was the mistaken thought that I had to have my e-cig experience AS CLOSE to being like the real thing as possible; in feel, in taste. I "thought" I just had to have white shortie batts with a red led and just had to have e-juice that tasted like the analogs that I smoked for 2 decades. What I found was...I needed to break those habits...not replicate them!!! It wasn't until I changed my thinking that I was able to finally give up those last 2-3 analogs a day. All that money spent trying to exactly replicate what I was trying to give up. Foolish...for me at least.

Now my equipment looks nothing like a real cig and my juice taste nothing like a analog.

I know exactly what you mean. Thankfully I can only say I wasted about $40 on analog replicas before I found a vaping lounge during my visit to Phoenix (Zikwid) who showed me the light.

We humans tend to habitualize the things we like the best. It's not nearly so difficult to break an addiction when a better (in every sense of the word) thing comes around to take it's place.

I suppose I shouldn't feel or think that any of my spending has been per say foolish. From beginning vaping to now...the goal was and remains to stay off analogs. Every step I've taken, even the less informed ones, has led me to today. Feeling better and being SMOKE FREE!

Priceless!

Now it's time to move on to smarter priceless. LOL.

Thanks for this thread Keezy. It has made me think about my journey so far, and re-think it going forward. :D

ETA: Thanks also to ECF for this community forum and the vast amt of info available from generous caring members.

Because I had so many items in my stash, I went 90 days not allowing myself to buy anything. I still have enough IKV Fusions to last me 6 months, and because I 98% vape one liquid, it is all I need. Since my 90 days ended, I rewarded myself with my third GLV, and I bought 3 KBV flavors to try. But going 90 days with no purchases got me thinking differently about "needing" to buy anything. I think that I will occasionally try new juices, but I am happy with my equipment, I have my "best" carto and I reorder my Halo Truepure during 15% off sales. I am pretty much set, and don't have to buy the new things out there even though I do enjoy reading others opinions and I want to keep up to date.
Great thread keyz!!

Keyzy,
I'll agree with you 100%. I posted here a few months ago that I was sick of vape stuff breaking & wanted to quit vaping because I was sick of my husband having to mod my new mods. lol

Then I realized it was because I was buying everything that was brand new on the market, because I HAD to check it out. I've since decided to stop doing that. I sold off a ton of juice, all my mods that are not stainless steel (but kept a few good ones that aren't), lol.

I've never put myself in credit card debt over my vape "gotta have it now" habit, but I could easily see it happening.

I'm glad I chose to take a serious look at things, & look at keeping it simple................just as simple as lighting a cigarette.
I now know the mods I like, the juice I like, the mix/mg I like & i'm settled on them. Now it's just traveling to places like vapefest & vapercon that are taking my cash.

EXCELLENT POST!!!

For those looking to curb the vaping spending------------ just get your self some young children. I want to move up from my cig style 808's bad but every time I see something new I want I find myself saying " 60 dollars for that- thats 2 formulas and a case of diapers " lol.

SO glad I'm done with that!!

A few signs you have crossed the line: hiding purchase(s) from wifey; 2) setting appointment with bank loan officer for loan to make vaping stuff purchases; 3) pawning wifey's jewelry; & 4) deciding child(ren) should attend public rather than private school.
Oh darn, now I'm 67 yo, and keyz is talking about growing up. But, that little child in me says. . .I don't wanna!

Cheers,
otrpu

I try to keep my purchases simple and research the heck out of them as well as no impulse purchases. After my 1st 2 808's I purchased an ego kit (which simply didn't "do it" for me), then a mini Reo (bottom feeder-was tired of filling cartos in public), and when I got tired of carrying an extra batt around and not getting enough umph-I moved on to the Darwin. I've used the Darwin almost exclusively since March.

I recently ordered a VV army tank-I would like to stop trying to drip-n-drive. That's it...no more Pv's. If the VV army tank does what it's supposed to do/not either it/my mini Reo w/be in the classies.

My money is hard earned and I try to hold onto it for as long as possible. Next 4 me is DIY. I love BWB but am 2 tired of paying $16 for a bottle of juice.

I love my 808. cigs. I just got the e power and it's nice too,. I like better the longer battery life and it is cheaper too. But, I have adapter that allows me to vape the 808 carts on my e power, and I love it. It is nice to drip with the E Power too!

Lol, I babysit my grands and I desperatly need to vape then! I love them so much, but it's not like having a real job that pays me for my time and dedication!!! I do love the 808's, better hit all together, even on my E Power usig an adapter!
