Just got back from Cabo Mexico, flying in and out from the USA. Both there and back I vaped on the plane and was never once questioned. I'm actually a little shocked I got away with it. If only I knew about vaping when I took my 20 hour flight to Indonesia a few years ago. I thought I was going to die having to go that long without a cigarette! haha

Has anyone else vaped on a plane?

US Air does not let you use e-cigs. It is stated in their magazine that you see in the back pocket of the seats. What airline did you use? I will try to take my next flight with yours!

I try to check what the airlines rules and regulations are before flying. Different airlines have different policies regarding the use of e-cigs on their flights. I can see both sides of the issue. Hubby (non-smoker, never tried cigs) thinks the rules against vaping is stupid (love that man of mine!). I really would like to know what airline you used.

I wouldn't say loud and proud. I wasn't blowing it up into the air to make a scene, but wasn't really concealing it either. I had a few people notice, ask what it was and take pictures of me blowing "smoke" into their iPhones so they could post it on FB. Everyone was getting a kick out of it. One of the employees saw me and didn't even take a second look. I thought for sure I'd get grounded and have to make trips to the bathroom. hahaa

Flying there was American and flying back was Alaska. Not sure if it's actually legal on either carrier as I didn't look up their rules. Just went with it and got away with it. =)

Haha, I didn't try vaping on American but I stealth vaped on BA going from New York to Heathrow. Didn't really bother trying on American since I was walking thru the airports vaping away on my little blu disposable I bought. At least nobody stopped ask asked what I was doing. Also I called all airports ahead of time to make sure I was allowed to vape.

Congratulations! I read a lot of accounts written by people who vape on commercial flights.

I just don't do it. I flew from San Francisco to Cleveland and back a week ago. That's about 7-8 hours of airport and flight time without vaping. I used nicotine gum and did just fine.

Did a trip to Italy and back two years ago and used Copenhagen. I like the gum much better.

I've tried the gum......doesn't work for me. :( I did/do vape in the airports that I travel through. I just don't do it with lots of vapor. More stealth like. I would rather not draw too much attention and get it banned. I love not having to go through security at layovers that are long enough to take a quick couple of cigs outside. With having to get to the airport so early now, it makes flying that much longer. By the time we get to our destination and god forbid any delays happen(!!) it just makes it harder. With being able to vape discretely it really helps. It will be interesting to see what it will be like when I fly from the states to Germany in May. I will have to research what the airline's policy when we decide which airline will be cheapest LOL.

To the OP, glad you were able to pull it off and not get fined or jailed!!

I fly Delta most of the time, and they do not permit vaping, but I always do. No one says anything to me. But I semi-stealth. I have to go to Europe four times a year, and I am hooked on vaping. I use to use gum when I smoked.

Gumm just doesn't cut it for me. I need that hand to mouth thing along with seeing vapor come out of my mouth. Funny how people that have never smoked don't get it's more than a nicotine addiction.

Those are long flights. So I'm glad you've found away to get away with it! :toast:

Nicotine gum works fine for me during long flights. Keep in mind that 4 mg gum should be chewed carefully. Follow the instruction in the package. A couple of chomps at a time followed by several minutes placed between the gum and cheek. It takes about 30 minutes to absorb all of the nicotine from one piece of 4 mg gum.

I purchased 40 pieces of 4 mg gum on sale for $12 from CVS a week before my last long flight. No prescription needed. Just over the counter like any cold medicine.

Yeah. I smoked a pack and half a day before I started vaping. Now that I'm vaping nicotine: nicotine gum works great for the long flights. I'm not doing party flights from Mexico.

i'm filled with lots of wanderlust lately, and i can't wait to vape on a plane. ethics be damned, it's just going to happen. i plan to do it in the washroom though (ew), i'm glad you got away with it openly. the last time i travelled i spent 24 hrs in commute there and back, which really tested my limits. i have very fond memories of being directed around heathrow, transit included, trying to find a proper place to smoke. the first area i was directed to had an outdoor area, but not anywhere outside that was designated for smoking. my brain pretty much popped right then and there. then all the customs folk were giggling at me since i had stuffed one of my bags with 1 cigarette pack less than i had to claim duties for in my own country.
ya. i feel i am owed a vape on a flight. i'm not a very good flyer.
