My thoughts on the New, Tech packed Vehicles ..
I loved my old Chevy Avalanche .. when it got to the end of it's life cycle, it was a sad day for me .. I knew that truck as well as I knew myself ..
So, logic said 'Buy a brand new truck, since that may be the last vehicle you'll ever need ..' .. so, I drop $65K (total, out the door) .. and, I love my new truck ..
However, it's packed with tech I don't need or want .. and the 'brain' will not allow driving if certain systems are detected as failed or faulty, if the 'brain' thinks so .. (not that I've had that problem, yet) ..
So, hope that any glitch that comes down the pike happens while the new warrantee is still in effect .. because, these days, about anything requires a near PHD to fix and costs 5x what old, simple tech used to cost ..
Even a simple thing like an oil change is an easy $100+ clams .. because, instead of regular old 10/30 oil and a filter, you need synthetic oil .. I can remember oil changes being $20 and that was back when they needed to lube the zerts as well ..
Then, the availability of these new fangled tech parts is always a crap shoot .. I've got a buddy with a new vehicle that had some module go out under warrantee and has sat at the Dealership for 4 months waiting on a part ..
Packing NASA tech in a vehicle may seem like a real wow factor, but like many things in the Modern World, there is always a dark side .. but, the thing is, you really don't have much, if any, choice ..
These are just more failure points that, in most cases, cannot be handled by the driver and requires a technician to diagnose and fix ..
