I posted this back in February, hopefully it may help you guys. It's a long list but all of these got favourable mentions in the thread...

I did NOT mean to start anything!
I have tried to recall where I read about the different tobaccos within this thread. Even with search. This thread has great info about the different tobaccos. In fact, this thread has helped myself (others) not to waste time, money, tobacco, ect. I have found exactly the flavor profiles in tobacco that I've been looking for and have been missing. Also able to stay away from the tobacco that I have no interest in trying because it does not fit my taste profile.
I only asked the above question because going back through all the posts is a pain in the posterior. I do use the tobacco review site but that is only for the combustion of. vaping the same tobacco, as we all know, has the same base flavor(s) but the depth, minor flavors ect are unknown to the smokers. I was one of those. Example the Cohiba cigars I enjoyed back in the day can/will NOT have the flavor I enjoy today from the same tobacco. Yes the base flavor, as I remember, is there but the depth and minor flavors, I'd been missing, is outstanding.
Sorry again, I should NOT think anymore. It always starts something!

Broke out a couple last week that I had mixed in early May.

C&D Orion's Arrow: Reminds me a little of Dunhill Elizabethan mixture without the grassiness. It's also a little fuller (smoother?) with a nice, slight sweetness to it. Very nice! I'll be ordering more. :thumb:

C&D Mississippi Mud: The jury's still out on this one, and it may be an indefinite sequester. Don't think it's going to be my cup of tea. It has mellowed a little in the week I've had it in the tank. Going to keep trying it off and on for the next several weeks before giving the final verdict.

Str8vision,
I (as others) would like to see a list of tobaccos that have been extracted and have passed the "best flavor extraction" placed on this thread say every 25 pages. On every 25 (or more your choice ur op) each of us can list their best tobaccos making them much easier to find and help with future picks/purchases. Page 75 is coming up!
This is just a thought. If a problem with or too much work ect. I totally understand. I had to ask, sorry.

What I had originally envisioned for this thread was everyone periodically posting a list of their favorite tobaccos for flavor extraction. I feel it's important to associate a specific tobacco to its proponent (the person who liked it) so we might can identify with people who share similar taste preferences/flavor profiles. If you discover you enjoy some of the same tobacco flavors as someone else then perhaps their other recommendations might also suit you.

I'm going to give this some thought and would like to hear everyone's opinions. I personally would like to see everyone post their current list of favorites every few months or perhaps every so many pages of this thread's progression. My last list was posted on April 27th and is on page 64. I will re-post an updated list. Perhaps as people post their list of favorites I can consolidate those posts into a "master list" (by person denoting that person's favorites) that I re-post periodically? Let's hear what everyone thinks and would like to see.

I did NOT mean to start anything!

Why not? You do make a good point, this thread -is- getting cumbersome to navigate/search especially for newcomers looking for recommendations. ;)

I'm in!
I only suggested the 25 page thing so all the regulars to the tread can refer to last 25th page. Ie. page 75, page 100, so forth. On page 75 each one of us post their favs, description ect. If no change when page 100 happens just copy/paste last list.
I do realize that my tobacco choices will be repeats already posted here but will have different observation. My list also is very short as of now but full of winners.

I think this is a great idea.

So far I've had real enjoyment mixing different combinations of the following blending pipe tobacco extracts:

Gawith Hoggarths Cyprian Latakia No.7
McConnell Oriental Turkish Blend
Gawith Hoggarths Kendal Black Cavendish
Gawith Hoggarth Perique
Kendal Scotch Cake Broken Flake Pipe Tobacco
Kendal No.1 Gold Coarse Cut Straight Virginia

The others that have extracted really well so far:

Leon Jimenes Petit Corona Bee Cigar (cigar with honey notes)
Century Black and Brown (Tweed B-22) (Black cav and burley)
Peter Stokkebye Kentucky Maroon (vanilla/chocolate notes, a nice change of pace)

Yes, like this!
But maybe add extraction %s and final mix % ie 20/80 pg/vg. Maybe even extraction method used? (Not needed)
See there I go thinking again! Here comes the trouble....

Broke out the Ryujin (mixed mid May) today. A mite stout. It makes the Mississippi Mud seem tame.

The Mud is actually growing on me, a little (once I get past the shock of the first few vapes. ;)) NOT an ADV, but something to pick up from time to time to break the (sometimes) monotony of my normal VaPer mixes.
I may blend a little with a Virginia Flake, that I find rather bland.

I'm finding that the *rather bland* can sometimes be improved that way. The Very bland, there's no hope for. I have a few of those in the cupboard I'm getting ready to dump.

I've trimmed it down a bit, here's my current list of favorite Tobaccos in no specific order;

  • Cornell & Diehl "Mississippi Mud" - (moderately robust blend)
  • Cornell & Diehl "Old Joe Krantz" - (moderately robust VaPer with burley)
  • Cornell & Diehl "Pirate Kake" - (a robust Latakia blend)
  • Hearth & Home Signature "Virginia Spice" - (moderate VaPer with cigar leaf)
  • Hearth & Home "Louisiana Red" - (mild VaPer, great base for Hybrids)
  • Seattle Pipe Club "Mississippi River" - (a moderate and masterful blend)
  • Tsuge "Ryujin" - (a robust Latakia blend)
  • Sutliff Private stock "Charlemagne" (Virginia dominant, masterful blend)
  • Sutliff Private stock "Molto Dolce" - (for my sweet tooth)
  • Sutliff "Black Vanilla" - (vanilla infused black Cav)
  • Peter Stokkebye "84 Turkish" - (great base for Hybrids)
  • Samuel Gawith "Full Virginia Flake" - (great base for Hybrids)
  • Dunhill "Elizabethan Mixture" - (moderately robust Virginia dominant VaPer)
  • Dunhill "Nightcap" - (Robust VaPer with Latakia)

CIGARS

I've been enjoying C&D's Mississippi Mud the last few weeks, its blend of Cavendish, Latakia and Perique is unique and distinctly different from most other blends. It's a nice step down from the Ryujin I'd been heavily vaping the month before. Don't know what my next binge will be, but I'm in no hurry for a change. ;)

Update: testers from above at 3 weeks.
HH Acadian Perique: not perique strong as Louisiana Red. Smokey but the peppery/plum flavor is faded into background. Va sweetness has also faded. Smooth medium vape.
Billy Bud: medium cigar. Smokeyness is not as upfront as before but still there.
Back Down South: Well balanced Va/Per with a whiskey (bourbon) note. Smooth/medium vape I find hard to put down even before fully aged/steeped.

To the OP and all other regulars (we/you know who you are) of this thread. Thank you!
I have found my eliquids better than before and anything I could buy. BTW thanks for also adding your tobacco favs. I see others I'll have to try.

I've sampled hundreds of different tobaccos and yet haven't even scratched the surface of what's available. One of the best aspects of home extraction is the nearly unlimited variety of cigars, tobaccos and blends most of which have never been extracted and sampled as a NET. The next "favorite" is out there... somewhere... waiting to be discovered.

I've spent most of this year extracting my favorite tobaccos in bulk. Once done I'll have no need to extract those specific tobaccos again freeing up my time to focus on sampling "new" tobaccos exclusively. I'm really looking forward to it. Sampling new tobaccos is a lot like gambling, the potential of a large win is always present which makes the effort fun, exciting and occasionally richly rewarding.

I have a question for you folks. I have heard several recomendations for Dunnhills Elizabethan mixture and that it may not be available much longer. Has anyone tried P&C's Match Elizabethan? I'm not sure if the Match is going to be pretty darn close to the Dunhill, or drastically inferior. What are your thoughts/opinions?

I've not extracted any but have heard it's as good (or better) than what Dunhill currently sells, at least for those who actually smoke it. Supposedly, it's closer to the "original" Elizabethan mix from yesteryear. I've extracted 12 ounces of Dunhill's current blend so shouldn't need anymore for many years but might try the match blend next year just to see what it tastes like. Who knows, it might even taste better!

Thanks Str8vision, I may have to give it a try! When I get some made up, perhaps I can send you a sample. You have some of the original and might be able to let us all know how the two compare. I'll keep ya posted...

I am slowly filling up my shopping cart(s). I'm not very impressed with the selection that most of the loocal tobacco shops cary, so I am looking online. I am familiar with Pipes& Cigars, Smokingpipes.com, and Lil' brown smoke shack. Does anyone out there have a favorite shop for selection, price, and service? I don't want to be overlooking a really good source. I tend to prefer the bulk options where I can buy samples 1oz. at a time whenever possible.
