I was joking, I think lost in translation :)

"What really troubles me is how he uses his ERLp in bed next to his wife. Have you ever used one of those things they sound like a Vacuum Cleaner - loud."

"Yes I have heard. And the Erlp is pretty loud too."

Implication: that George was saying your wife (or perhaps wives in general) sounded like a vacuum cleaner when.. 'used'.

Sorry, joke fail :)

PS. I have an Erlp - you are right, it is loud :)

It's all good "Bloke",

Between you, me and Tony the humor can get very strange very fast especially on Tony's end and you never know which of the six languages he speaks is the one he is using to joke in. Ugh! I am confusing myself.

So here I am, once again, chucking on my erlp at 185C with my latest Ti coil and I realise something isn't right... I can't feel the flavor nor do I feel any throat hit... Is it the dna board? Is it vapors tongue? No...

Without TC, I would be chucking on scorching rayon by now... [emoji14]

I've started working on a calculator for computing TFR curves for combined coils, like twisting Ni200 with Titanium, or Kanthal with Resistherm. Feel free to have a peek here, and of you have feedback you can leave it in this thread here. (Warning: This is very much a work in progress, the user interface leaves much to be desired, and I cannot guarantee the correctness of anything yet.)

Nice! How soon will there be a link from the main page? If not soon I'll make a second bookmark lol.

Has anyone in the US had any luck finding Resistherm? I've been looking, thinking we could find it under one of its non-official names (NiFe30, etc.) but coming up with nothing.

Alloy 120 from ResistanceWire.com - you need to spend $50 + shipping and you'll get 980 feet. Yeah.

@vapealone has it and he reports the TCR is a bit higher, about 0.0045, but in fact that would seem to be a benefit. Another benefit, it's available in a much wider range of wires - eg 24, 26, 28G.

That looks really interesting, I will check it out in more detail soon.

Wait, are you the owner/creator of Steam Engine??

That sounds like pretty good evidence :)

@Dampmaskin ! Steam Engine is awesome, great work. I've been meaning to send you some requests for the coil calculator for ages, I had no idea you were on here. Should have guessed really. I'll bring those over to you thread :)

Regarding the TCR wire calc - thanks again for doing this and posting it here. It looks really interesting. I see you must be in the DNA 200 beta program, good to see the format required for the TCR curves on there.

Firstly it would be great if it could be based on °C rather than °F, or at least have these selectable. Most wire data sheets and TCR calculations use °C as their basis.

It would also be great to be able to enter more points, and to allow the user to enter this. For example if I measure real temperature data for more points than 100/200/300°C it would be great to be able to enter more points. And store them

Also it would be great to be able to see the result as a single TCR value, for mods that don't support the curve entry of the DNA 200 - with a target temperature value, so it's accurate for that temperature.

I'll have more thought later when I play about with it more. Thanks again!

Ok, done. I also added a "How it works" section to the TCR page, where I try to explain what it's about.

I'm afraid I'm not on the beta team, but I got some information from a trustworthy source that I could base the format on. I am still not 100% sure about the number of decimals required/allowed, but other than that, it should be pretty close to what the DNA 200 wants.

Firstly it would be great if it could be based on °C rather than °F, or at least have these selectable. Most wire data sheets and TCR calculations use °C as their basis.
If you click the "°C" to the right of the input box for temperature points, you can actually change the format of that. I didn't think many will be interested in doing that for this particular input field, but the option is there if you need it.

Anyway, the TCR values and tables are hardcoded in the calculator, so that they'll be easily accessed with presets. Everything happens in °C under the hood.

It would also be great to be able to enter more points, and to allow the user to enter this. For example if I measure real temperature data for more points than 100/200/300°C it would be great to be able to enter more points. And store them
For now, I'll update the presets with this data myself, as people send it to me. An option for manual material entry may or may not appear in the future.

Also it would be great to be able to see the result as a single TCR value, for mods that don't support the curve entry of the DNA 200 - with a target temperature value, so it's accurate for that temperature.
For this you can use (or make) a column for something like 450°F or 250°C in the table. Or whatever other temperature you deem relevant.

Between you two guy and now Dampmaskin I feel like i have arrived in Technological Nirvana. "I'm not worthy"

I never noticed Dampmaskin signature just think I could have gotten into a debate about coil winding with Dampmaskin and made an even bigger backside out of myself than I already am. (no don't touch that line Tony).

@Dampmaskin, Thank you for your Steam-Engine. I have your app on my phone also just in case I ever need to re-coil while driving.

This thread is one hell of a resource Bloke has created. Guys who all want to help each other and dig deep to do it. Contrast that with the petty crap prevalent in so much of ECR. No comparison

I use steam engine daily. That's why I have the Android app :)

Remember our discussion regarding stealthvape's ni 200 resistance per cm vs temco's? Steam engine's webserver had to be boiling with all the experimental calcs we made that night lol :)

Glad somebody put a lot of time and effort into something so useful to the community.

Duane,

Bloke, at first had me thinking who is this guy. Then I realized he was so far over my head with what they were doing and I won't even mention all the acronyms he uses that I can't even look up and make any sense of.

Actually what got me here was a mention of changing some to the thermal characteristics and purity setting in his mod that I sent him a PM (tried to) asking him how he had hacked into the chip code. Then as I followed along for a time I realized they had one of those Dicodes Mods which apparently lets you change any parameter you want to change from a menu on the device.

If you haven't looked into one of these Mods Duane you have to watch this it is not very long:

Hi George,
I think Tom (TheBloke) started pretty much with the Nickel Purity setting in the SXK chiNA40 mods. The dicodes came after!

Steve,

Do you know how he was able to get into the code oh-wait I think I heard that was an option on the chiNA40. Is that correct. Also how come the clones do tricks the real-thing doesn't? (rhetorical) on that last point.

Because, sometimes, the student surpasses the teacher. All those guys in China needed was the idea. They're not stupid. Once you get the idea, a clever engineer will think things through and sometimes come up with really neat solutions.... Like nickel purity. :)
