#500 SS Mesh

BJ43, thanks for starting this thread and providing true empirical data (plus the tips you've given in other threads!)... 500 mesh ordered.

Now, on my way to the garage to try my hand at a fat wick with tiny, tiny center hole in my Vivi tank conversion with the 400 I have on hand. Hopefully that will stop the dry hits and the raw juice inhalation from the volcanic effect. Any hints as to how to roll 70mm of this stuff into a 2mm diameter? I can barely get a 40mm wick rolled that tightly...

BJ43, I just thought of another question that perhaps you could shed some light on...

Since I'm running a Vivi tank conversion, the wick is only 25mm long when rolled. I've been oxidizing the entire wick (it's so short), but you mentioned that you only oxidize only the area where the coil sits. Do you think having raw SS mesh in the tank/juice is better for wicking, or does it matter?

I'm running a Nova exactly-so - as he suggested: oxidizing/treating only the area around the coil. Tastes wonderful-er than it did before.

Also, completed the same exact mod on my Thor (clone Vivi Vision Version Two). Still can't quite figure a simple fix the the overly hard draw on it, but it's totally fiberglass and "silica" free, now.

I still don't care much for the as-is atty "heads".. The Vivi Tank is a ton easier to work with, and it and the Nova are sorta' a cointoss for which vapes or tastes better.

Ok, good to know... I'll give this a try on my next wick (which will be a fat one, 400 mesh).

I ordered one of the Vivi Novas 2.5 for testing cotton wicks. I plan to try a Quigsworth-style cheesecloth wick. With 3 atty heads to play with, I can try all kinds of fun stuff.... may even try SS mesh.

55mm is my max on 2mm, roll it tight without a center hole. Don't try to do it fast just be patient and roll, it will get there.

I have not done a lab test to confirm if an oxidized wick, wicks faster or slower than a non oxidized. I put it on my list of things to test and will get back.

If not just put them up to a light and you will see the difference the 500 lets less light thru.

ok just did a 55mm on my Cobra 5ml and again burnt taste, dratty happening. After burning through a couple of coils and getting very frustrated I decided to take one screw of as this puppy has 5 for different configurations.. Well soon as I did that bubbles, so no air flow and must have been preventing wicking. I really rolled this sucker tight 1st with a UHF remote antenna from back of a sat box. then without to get even tighter roll. The fact that I got a 55mm roll to easily slide into that little hole showed how tight that sucker was. So been vaping on it for a few hours now. On 26mm mod with a 26700 e-moli 3.8v battery to put it through its paces and sir I even chain vaped and not once did I get a dratty. I did oxidize the entire wick as I was having some shorts and fried coils initially. But hey I'm new at this and my coil building can stand some improving!! But none the less its working like a trooper but will have to put one screw back in as I tried 2 out and actually got gurgling. Im sure not from the wick but tilting to vape and leakage from 2 holes!

So Guys it works and works well and I am new to the RBA. I did the same process with the DID and same results wicks like crazy and lots of vapour. How long I dont know coil will die before wick Im sure as like I said my coils can use some inprovement but I did get them as tight around the wick as I could!!

I have always said that with an overhead tank, it is not wicking (capillary action), you are using gravitational flow, in other word a porous pipe. With gravitational flow, bigger holes in the mesh allows more flow and also more leaking. A GTUS without the insert works great with 500 but it is a completely different principal than if the juice has to go up against gravity.

When using the 500 w/ the GTUS are you rolling it 'tight' or with a center hole to aid gravitation flow?

I use my GTUS very little as I don't like cool vaper, but I did try it with a #500 tight no center hole and it was the best I have had it set up. No dry hits and no flooding. It was a tight wick, fairly tight in the hole with no insert. Even without the center hole you get the gravitational flow.
