Well I'm about to have to leave this thread.

Tried another #500 mesh in yet another device and just am not seeing the results that anyone else is getting.

I'm not getting decent wicking, or flavor or really any benefits from using this method.

Mind you, I'm not whining or complaining really, I just can't get this method to work. I hope I don't sound like I'm being a baby. I'm genuinely glad others are having great success.

I am very experienced with my devices. I own a lot of different models and have never really had any issues. I just can't get the wide, fat wicks to work. I've checked the coils, used different gauges and made sure to the point of ridiculousness that they are oxidized.

Just can't get any of the wicks to go. It's too bad, I had great hopes for the tips that I have read in this thread.

Hey, we'd love to have ya!, that is if you can get over our crazy taxes (and universal health care, regulated banks that don't go under, clean/low crime cities, affordable education in some of the best universities in the world, actual drinkable beer and lots of cold winter nights with some very pretty Canadian women to keep you warm, etc...) come on over, join the dark side :laugh:

I actually love the cold, it's the damn Floridian fiancé that's the problem. Believe me I already started working on it lol

That sucks man! If you ever want to compare notes, drop in.

As you know, it's certainly possible to get great performance out of genesis attys without doing this stuff. Half the fun is trying out new experiments with this equipment, and there's nothing wrong with having an experiment fail. On to the next one!

500 delivered from the home country. 70 mm wick cut for a DiDalike. Rolled for 25 - 30 minutes.

Fired and treated as per normal, for me that mean top half only.

28 AWG, 1 Ohm coil installed. Hot spot hell with most of the night spend fiddling with pin while working. Strange as since moving to 28 I haven't been having those issues in the slightest.

Early days with new wick and coil but have to relate initially...yeah no difference to the 400 rolled tightly around a paper clip. No dry hits but then I wasn't getting any with the previous set up.

Let's see how it goes. Next one may just see the return of the paper clip.

Hi there folks

I just got my genesis hybrid and was wondering from where to get the best mesh and wire prices... Also best coil number of wraps and size of mesh ... I use an NGP 18350 and Vape 100% VG some times 50/50 ...

Sry if this is covered I just joined this thread and thought to ask for some experience help.

It sure doesn't ! Has anyone tried rolling a diagonal wick yet? Will it wick?

Have tried to cut a mesh diagonnally, a mess! First, it is PITA to roll it properly, 'cause it tends to roll naturally across, then finaly rolled, oxidized and coiled, wicking is worse than otherwise.

Don't do that!
I even rolled 2 wicks same dimensions, one diagonally one naturally, put them upright in a juice and a wick cut across wicked faster and higher than that one cut diagonal.
Much hassle for worse.

Got my ZAG this morning and I have to say that this is one of the best RBA's I've ever had...as far as fit and finish, hard to tell where the GGTS ends and the ZAG starts...I was kinda doubting getting the brass but the contrast is perfect. Function and build...ah, finally some room under the hood to work...after all the Line builds I've done, building this thing is a piece of cake. So I pulled the wick insulator and rolled a 70mm out of 500 with a lazy 3 wrap 32 that came in at 1.5...perfect no-short build first time (no doubt the last for a while, usually the case for me:mad:)...the flavour and vapor is astounding but ya, pretty airy draw...I realized halfway to the cottage last night I left my JBWeld on the work bench at home so I used the "roll a baby wick from scrap and stuff it in the DT" method of tightening the draw up a bit...I have to say that this 500 may actually be overwicking a bit, never thought I'd be asking this but any suggestions on solving that?

Quig try crimping the top of wick so it closes even a small center hole. Put the coil as high as you can on the wick will reduce the backflow from gravity of the juice that is higher then the coil and flows back down after you vape the juice underneath it.

oh come on on a 5ml as well?? Dag nam it I'm not having any luck on my Cobra 5ml I wrapped that sucker tight using 55mm and it worked great for a short period and just died it didnt seem to wanna wick at all using #400 (4/5 wrap I believe 32 Kanthal as wasnt marked)as I'm waiting on #500. Rearanged coils to remove hot spots and or shorts burnt the bejesus out of almost clear juice until it was dark caramel and ended up tasting like s... well u know!! So I said the hell with it pulled the son of .....es out of tanks (both Cobra and DID went this route but DID seems to to still work just tates like again u know what)! Almost put the man things up for sale. Then for ....s and giggles tried a cheap .... pheonix atty with cotton wick at 2.4 ohms actually liked the taste..... Oh you could just imagine the frustration then cheap .... $9 atty yummy yummy $100-$150 atties taste like again you know!! I know I am doing something wrong the Cobra would wick as it pressure locked thought I had remedied it with removing the screw to breath. (oh by the way is it normal for tank to fill up with vapour?) But nope just vaped maybe a day really well then fizzled quickly. I'll tell I'm so ...... off I bought a Pen and Ody and couple of high end mech mods to run them on as the couple I have just werent good enough I thought (just remember logic went out the window when I got ......). Anyway I am determined to conquer these atties but sooooo frustrating when you think you do everything right and it craps out so quickly! I would have did the papper burn carbon insulator but someone must have took them for something else?? Anyway I think I am going to stay away until my Kanthal of 28,30 and 32 come in as well as #500 mesh as I seem to be just wasting supplies and better off with my thumb up my... well u know where!

The Cobra I got 1.4 ohms as really couldnt get a lot of turn on it but DID was much thicker wick came out around 2.2-2.4.

Oh crap long rant sorry guys its just very frustrating things and maybe I shouldn't have went the RBA way but can't stop now!!

I would just like it to work without taking out screws as u move the wrong way juice everywhere!!


I'll keep reading and slugging away but not for a few days to a couple of weeks well all the proper gear gets here!!

I did 55mm with #400 with as a tiny centre hole as I could roll (used UHF antennae from Dish receiver after snipping off ball this gave me length as well so no burnt fingers) It just choked right up, pressure lock had to take off a screw or 2. I thought I got it rolled as tight as my poor little arthritic fingers could roll it so it was snug in those tiny holes (don't find they are damn small and theaded so that doesnt help either). Anyway worked great for short period and died and pressure lock issue never was resolved :( Damn I would pay emonty to roll me some wicks for my 5ml Cobra and DID the guy has to have cyborg fingers as he got .......n 100mm in there!! LOL

Has anyone figured out the perfect mm width for the cobra?

I know Emory said 60 mm before but I feel like it could handle more :)

Not to be rude but Its taking me 2 days to catch up on this thread couldnt you do this smoozing through PM or another means so I can actually read about wick building as intended in this thread? My goodness only been away for 2 days and atleast 65% of new posts have nothing to do with thread topic. Can you tell a frustrated man who bought several of those quality Genesis style atties like the DID and Cobras and would love to get them working but haven't seen much useful information in awhile cause of banter!! Whats next wishing everyone a good morning, good night and afternoon like some other highly posted threads??

Try eastern canada....we have to up our APVs power to have a somewhat similar vape during wintertime

Hi barqs I feel your pain and frustration, and if anything in this world is capable of driving you up the wall it's a genesis RBA.
Or so I've found in the 3 weeks since I received my beautiful DID std.
I've had great wicking, poor wicking, no flavor, burnt taste, massive vapor , poor vapor, and finally a set-up with a good flavor, good vapor and satisfactory wicking.
I've tried thin wall thick wick, dual wick (small inside big), 80mm #400, 90mm #400, and just now 110mm #500, plus 2/3,3/4,4/5,5/6.6/7,7/8 wrap coils, twisted 32g kanthal coils, "twisted cotton wool pad" wick,m and a few other trials.
My current set-up of 4/5 32g kanthal on 110mm #500 mesh wick is just running in as we speak.
But my point is 'huge amounts" of trial and error appear the norm for most new genesis uses, and from all I've read nearly everyone has their own methods down shortly after the sometimes painful initiation into the land of genesis, but your efforts are always rewarded "So I've Heard!":2cool:

I have spend hours trying different setups, yes it is trial and error and very difficult to pin point one setup being great for all genies. I have hellfire's, Orion's, cobra's zenisis, bliss rba's and each has it's own characteristics and different ways to achieve the optimal configuration. I tend to get frustrated at times but as I speak I have for each one finally a perfect working setup. I don't know if next time around when I have to change the wick and or coil it will work for 100% again but I have faith it will as I know it can work. So for all out there who give up, continue and you will nail it. Some of the setups start shining after a few tanks, some right away and I cannot figure out why that is. It is very difficult to understand why sometimes it totally does not work but for sure it has to do with oxidation of the wick. The variables are very closely related and if they match you have success, if one of them is off, it sucks.
