Hmmm, when I look for filters here at work (not wire mesh filters though), I'm looking for what size particles will pass through and the filters I get have a "micron" size for that purpose. 50micron will retain anything bigger than 50micron; so I was confused when I saw the "micron" listing for the 200 and 325 mesh :D.

Got this from Chris:
Hi BJ43,

I appreciate the advice.

We can't afford to give too much discount away on these sheets. The #500 mesh is especially costly to produce.

However I am happy to offer a lifetime 5% discount to all members of your forum.

All they have to do is email me with the following information:

· Name and delivery address

· Telephone Number - We won’t call, but we have to input one into the system

· Email address

I will then set them up with a login account for our website. They'll then be able to login and receive the 5% discount anytime they want.

Kind Regards

400 mesh has 39micron holes; 500 has 26micron. So actually I think the 50micron would be a smaller mesh than 400.

Just went and checked the Mesh Co website.
They say their 200 mesh is 28micron and 325 mesh is 36 micron; meaning that the hole sizes in the 200 and 325 are smaller than the holes in the 400. W T F

ETA:
Oh, their "micron" measurement is referring to the wire diameter and not the hole size

200 mesh holes are 99 micron
325 mesh holes are 42 micron

so thinner wires and larger holes means more pliable, right buddies?

back to an old observation, it was easier for me to roll 100 mm of 270 than it was 400. I'm guessing this is due to a thinner wire and increased pliability.

So if I could roll a 200 mm 270 wick, would that possibly 'compensate' for the larger hole size and be able to stand up to 100 mm of 400?

Does wicking depend more on 'hole' size or tightness of the roll? Would a tightly rolled 325 wick better, or at least as good as, a loosely rolled 500?
You could probably find and average where you would get the same results with both. Any thing that increases the distance the molecules have to travel thru adhesion, decreases wicking. Tightness of the roll brings the holes of each layer closer together.

I'm doing my part to get that twitter discount of 20% to happen. If I actually see it happen on the day, that is another question. Not so happy to hear the free sheets aren't going to be #500, #400 or even #325. What are we supposed to do, get into beekeeping to use up the course mesh?

edit: wait a minute, do they mean the buy one get one free or the extra they throw in or both 'free'? It would be nice to hear more of what people are actually getting recently.

I sent a copy of your post to Chris, lets see if he will do something for us.

On my last order of #500 they sent one 500 and two 400

Ha ha, he'll love that for sure. You got in early though BJ, before the price increase and freebie rules.

They have a lot of e-cig followers now, and beekeepers and pond filtration aficionados. Aside from that, there is the fashion angle, but how many pairs of mesh boxers does one man need?

Hi BJ43,

I take that info on board, but I must stress that we don’t have to offer anything for free. We only do it to add extra value to our customer’s order, and to use up superfluous stocks.

The materials mentioned below are all too expensive to send out free.

However, I can confirm that we’re currently using 28 micron mesh as our free sheets. This material is very popular in continental Europe for use in E-Cigs.

Thanks again for being in touch Byron. I will be emailing out the login details for the discount memberships tomorrow, before I leave for the weekend.

Kind Regards

Hi BJ43,

Sorry I forgot to clarify the position on the twitter discount.

We would have to set up a discount offer through the site and then send the coupon code to every one of our twitter followers. The 20% discount would be live for an entire 24 hours.

I would expect that the discount would go live at 00:01 one of two working days (probably one) after we hit our first 50 twitter followers.

Kind Regards

Yeah he loved it. I'm Continental Europe, so I suppose I'm into the 28 micron stuff too, hmmm. Just checked, and I'm a 25 micron fan.

I do see that we used up the scraps and are cutting into the industrial customer share, but doesn't that also mean that they are selling quite a bit more than before? There do seem to be quite a few of us. (BJ, you really don't have to send that one to Chris)

I asked Chris about the possibility of kanthal or nichrome 400 or 500 mesh to look into eliminating the wire coil.

I’ll look into it.

Anything is possible really; it all comes down to cost.

Many thanks for being in touch about this.

PS. We will hopefully be stocking KANTHAL A. Resistance Wire and Nickel Chrome Wire within a few months through our Crazy Wire website.

Kind Regards
