I received this quote.
This is about 5 sheets of 8" by 8" at $20 each if someone wants to share. I would take a sheet. I can't do it from here as shipping back and forth from the island is prohibitive.

nice of you BJ!! but as much as I would like to try the #635 the #500 is giving me no wicking issues just bought it and rather wait until available for a reasonable price. Thank you for the offer anyway!!

I have two new A4 sheets comming from the UK , so will have to wait it out. That is until you start experimenting with it and Posting the Stella results, and I fold like a blade of grass in a hurricane LOL.
If it is even more coil friendly, short free, easier to oxidize etc I will be excited.
Cant wait to see your always informative, always innovative, always scientifically based experiments with this new mesh.

The link Tomcatt posted has some really good info in it.. As Emonty said it may be off QC ie: Crap.. but the info is free to read and understand.. Mainly because some of if not all of the Ebay mesh is probably coming from Alibaba.

Note the description of Twill..

The description of Plain..along with where it is used..

The result is that the Twill according to the listed specs have about 50.1 open area.. and that is the 400x400, 500x500 and the 635x635..

The plain weave according to the specs for 400x400 have about .40 open area at .023mm wire gauge which is about what we get from the mesh company..

Their 500x500 is made with .018mm wire gauge with an open area of 41.7 .. While what is coming from The Mesh company is 500x500 at .023mm wire gauge with an open area of 26..

If I have been following this thread correctly the smaller the open area the better wicking..

With all that said, has anyone checked what the Co-op is supplying according to weave, wire size and open area..

I got all this for Free from that site.. :p
Hope it makes sense...

Here is the co-op specs
GRADE - 316L Food Grade Stainless Steel

WEAVE - Twill ( I was told by the manufacture that twill is the only method they can use for 500 mesh - I have to believe them, because I'm not a mesh manufacture. )

WIRE GAUGE - .025

AREA OPENING ( hole size ) - 25

SIZE - 300mm X 300mm ( 11.8 X 11.8 Inches )

Once again I'm interrupting the flow of the thread with a dumb question, but I didn't know where else to ask. There are so many experts here I figured this would be a quick answer kind of query -- maybe not....lol.
Here we go...... I'm completely at sea now about what weave mesh is the best to use. I did not know there were so many different types of weaves. Is there one that is preferred? Can I identify the type weave under magnification?
Thank you so much for your help..... I truly do appreciate all the time and expertise that is contained in this thread. Think I've finally developed calluses on my thumb and forefinger from rolling the mesh because the bleeding has slowed to a trickle....lol. Wish I had come across this thread earlier.... I'm doing my best to read it all so I can quit bothering y'all.

If twill weave is not as good as plain weave, does anyone have any thoughts on whether getting 500 twill be any better than 400 plain?
