We are new to e-fags and this forum, but we have a really important question that we have not seen anything about. Inhaling the vapor has a curious slightly spacey quality that I don't understand why and are suspicious of. The effect takes much longer to wear off than normal tobacco - you notice it harder to concentrate and do simple tasks (e.g. for a split second you've forgotten which lever is to switch on the headlights). We've tried 3 different brands of ejuice at 18mg strength and it is like there is an extra drug in ejuice that is not in normal tobacco. Anyone else notice it (it is quite subtle)? We are concerned because we really do not want to go back to tobacco.

Yes. Yes. Yes. This is what I'm talking about in an earlier post. I believe that it's a saturation effect of nicotine, as we have fairly good evidence that there aren't any strange drugs in there. I think this just means too much nic, really... Try switching to a lower dose.

Just on your hands Kate? VG is used for dry skin conditions, in theory it should soften it?

What is VG? Is it that alternative to the PG? Where can I find out more about it. I seem to be coughing with the PG and I have COPD. Someone said I might be having an allergy to it. The first day it was cool. From there, coughing with inhales.

VG is for vegetable glycerine, like propylene glycol (PG) it makes vapour like smoke. There is a lot of information about it on the forum, I'd do a tag search.

Your coughing could be a sensitivity to pg or it could be something else like too much nicotine or additives in the juice.

If you need a commercial non pg juice have a look at the Johnson Creek range, they are the only company to produce glycerine based eliquid.

I have been vaping now for almost two months and exclusively for two weeks. Since I gave up analogues altogether, I have really started having problems when cleaning my teeth and my gums bleeding really quite badly. Has anyone else had this? I have never had anything like this before and I just know it has something to do with not smoking tobacco and starting with ecigs. I am going to start using eludril or cordysol and see whether this improves things. I know I should probably go to a dentist.

Yes on bleeding gums, which I've noted in posts before. Not sure if it's e-smoking connected, since I also use snus and dissolvable tobacco. But the combination is making a mess of my mouth! I've got to make some changes.

My major concern is pain in right shoulder/arm area. Again, I don't think e-smoking did it, but it did begin after I began e-smoking. I started e-smoking in January and the pain began about four months later. Getting progressively worse. No, I don't want to spend money insurance won't cover to go see a specialist, which is what my GP said to do.

P.S. I lost the cigarette cough -- but not all coughs. Still cough after lying down in bed each night. Still sometimes cough on inhalation of high-nic stuff. I've been e-smoking 11 months. Cough is worsening, not getting better, every month.

Yes, I know about gums being important. They are the things that keep teeth in the mouth. I did say I probably needed to go to a dentist. It probably is some kind of gum disease, which has perhaps been masked by smoking.
I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem.
yes Suzi...everytime i brush my teeth now im spitting blood...

it never happened before i started esmoking...i dont believe that its a coincidence...

i wonder if this is a common occurrence amongst esmokers...or if the amount we vape has some bearing on its appearance...or on its severity if it does appear...or is it just coincidental-which personally i doubt...

in fact i wonder whats causing it,and how...

a poll on this phenomenon might be interesting...

dnakr: yes, I did read that thread, but I think that is talking about mouth ulcers.

TB: I did do a search on bleeding gums before writing, but there wasn't a great deal on it.
Thankfully, I seem to have lost the 'smoker's cough' that I had after being a fairly dedicated smoker for 30 solid years. I am sorry it isn't the same for you and you still cough. Don't know how you are going to fix that. I hope you aren't in the same boat as ladybugs51. I am sure I have read somewhere on here about someone else having shoulder pain (unless you have said this before, but I don't think it was you).

Mr Darcy: hoorah! I knew there would be someone else. In fact, there might be a lot of others. I wouldn't know how to go about starting a poll on it.
I seem to remember my dentist saying once, that smoking reduces the circulation in the gums and that is why smokers have rubbish teeth (obviously, not a quote). I think it probably does mask gingivitis if that is the case. Perhaps our circulation is improving and now the gum problems are showing. I hate the dentist and I will try to fix it with eludril or cordysol mouthwash for a week or so and see what happens then.

8 days without cigs for me (got my package in on the 5th)

Mark me down for muscle aches on Trapezius (pull your shoulders towards your head, that guy) , Rhomboidius major (small muscle on the back that pulls your shoulder blade towards your spine, pretend like you are pulling the cord on a lawn mower), and I think Spinalis thoracis (or maybe it's that entire group of spinal muscles). I did help my dad string up a barbed wire fence and I've been using stimulants to help study (they make your muscles clench a bit), but these aren't exactly new activities for me and I've never been sore like this before. If I ever do get sore (incredibly rarely as I'm a college student and am usually reading) it's like one muscle in one spot and is quite obvious why it is sore, not a soreness covering my entire back from top to bottom and left to right. No way to tell for sure but I know my body and this small amount of physical activity can not account for the soreness, and I'm 21 and rather fit (though not buff by any standard), I don't think I have ever even had a sore back before.

TB: I found the post about shoulder/back aching

I was going to ask this same question. I try to take good care of my teeth but right after I started vaping, one day a tooth on my upper right back area started to bleed when I was flossing. I was a bit shocked because I can't even recall the last time my teeth bled. I waited to see if it was going to be an ongoing problem.

The next morning when I flossed, that tooth did not bleed but the same tooth on the opposite side did! Again I was surprised. Again I waited to see if it was going to continue but the next morning, no bleeding...and no bleeding since.

I should mention that the day I started esmoking, I was having a problem with my sinuses and the beginning of a cold...but I vaped anyway. I ended up getting sicker with that cold than I have ever been in my life....terrible sinus headaches, sweats and muscle aches. I lived on 3 advil and 2 sudafed throughout the day. I even missed 2 days of work (plus sick over the weekend) which hasn't happened to me since sometime in the '80s! I swear that intensity was due to the vaping.

But everything went away and I feel better now than I ever have....haven't had even the slightest cold, sinus or tooth problem since. I still smoke analogs some and have still been spitting some stuff up but my "smoking cough" is gone.

I do sometimes wonder what long term effects we might see but I'm not really worried about it....it beats smoking. But that's why I am hesitant to add anything else to "the mix"....additional flavorings, oils, etc. I just spent 36 years filling my lungs with a lot of junk. I know I have to use the PG to do this but I'm not adding anything else til I have a better idea of the safety of its inhalation.

I think a poll would be a good idea, along with an idea of how long the person has been vaping. Maybe we can all expect to see more problems down the road. Who knows?
