Every day in the US:
Deaths from smoking: 1213
Deaths from drugs: 105
Source: CDC
Was going to quote OP in my response, but this one is actually better.
Smoking kills, is in my observation (not opinion) a myth. Many on this thread smoked for decades (like 4 decades) and were very heavy users/abusers, but are still magically alive. Yet, if you die tomorrow, and it is determined you ever smoked, then chances are good you are another statistic of 'smoker just died.'
Soon, it's going to be 'vaping kills.' Cause one of these days, a vaper is going to die. No, I'm serious. And CDC will be right there to report it.
I like how if CDC reports increase in poisoning from eLiquid, it's all about discrediting the source, but let them pass along 'facts' about smoking and they are not to be questioned.
Seriously, if THEY are lying about eCigs/vaping, you really, honestly, truly don't think they lied about smoking, secondhand smoke? Really? If so, I have some swamp land that might just be right for you, and a good deal that I can provide.
So, I'm in the free market, category that says hell yes I would buy vaping products from BT. Likely wouldn't only buy from them, but have no ethical issues, whatsoever, now that they are in the game.
Show me a product/business, any product/business, which has people running it that are flawless. A product that magically escapes all scrutiny, all ideas of it leading to harm, all critics who assert deceptive tactics. Hint: You will NEVER FIND SUCH A PRODUCT, EVER.
BT, is under the spotlight because a whole bunch of addicts experienced problems with their abuse, and instead of owning that, they put most to all of the blame on the company. The company isn't flawless, but is certainly not deserving of majority of the blame. And yet, they get the vast majority of it because some addicts believe the "we just don't know" line is really really a good way to go about life and living. "I absolutely know I want my smokes today, but have no idea that it could harm me. I mean how could I know this? Why wouldn't ingesting smoke into my lungs be a really good thing for me? That doctor on TV said it was good, therefore, it has to be, right?"
Things are going to get interesting if/when BV is allowed to roll up with its billion dollar industry and the "we just didn't know" crowd realizes that yes, vapers too will one day die. Money to be made from plenty of frivolous lawsuits there. I mean, I was supposed to live to be 103, and died at 84 because I chose to vape. I have no responsibility on that matter and blame Big Vapor entirely for that situation.
And here I thought those manufacturers in China were completely benevolent in their intentions to make a product for us Americans. So wait, you're telling me they did it for the money? OMG! I had no idea!
