And like I said, how many people point to the superior durability as a buying point and then don't put their money where their mouth is and not get the warranty. I know if I bought a provari I'd get it, so I am not faulting it. I'd do it because I'd be so over budget that I couldn't afford to get new stuff for a couple months. Even so, being without it while it's being serviced would really suck if that's the only PV one had.

I truly don't understand your logic with these statements. I declined to purchase the extended warranty specifically because the Provari's have such a stellar track record for durability and being free of defects. I read all of the Provari threads for over 3 months before my purchase, so I did my homework and based my decision on that.

Why pay for something that the percentages say you will never need. I believe Provape offers the extended warranty only to satisfy potential buyers who might be wavering on a purchase. And if that extended warranty gives them more confidence in their purchase, who am I to question that? I just felt that, based on my research, that I didn't need that particular added expense.

Besides that, how many other APV's manufacturers even offer an extended warranty? And another thing that I found in my research is the turnaround for those few units that do need repair is nothing close to "a couple of months", more like a week or two. Just maybe it is this kind of customer service that pushes the initial cost of a Provari up above its competition. There are no free rides in life, you get what you pay for.

Actually if you look around you will find multiple threads where Provaris die, even in as little as 1 day. Many owners have had them serviced or upgraded from V1 to V2. I will say this in their defense; that upgrade was pretty cheap.

Yeah, I'm sure they exist....somewhere. You'd be hardpressed to find many though. Yes, the V1 to V2 upgrade seemed to be quite reasonable. From my point of view, it showed me that Provape is NOT just a greedy company out to get every buck from their customers, but in reality looking out for their customers' best interests.

I consider myself at this point to be an 'experienced' newbie. I am very technically inclined, my main hobby being in many things, computer hardware design, electronics, and in the IT field. My newest hobby, vaping, is more than just a hobby as I believe it has saved my life, prolonged it, and in the very least greatly improved the quality of it.

I consider my financial situation better than a lot of peoples, but worse than most. Its all about how it is managed, and the situation, everyone's is different. Do I feel the Provari is worth the cost, definitely. Do I own one, not yet. I eventually will when my budget allows, probably in the next 2-3 months I plan on being an owner of one. When I go that route I will do it right the first time thanks to all of the valuable information provided right here on ECF.

In the mean time, after nearly 2 1/2 months i've been into vaping I've aqquired a eGo 510 tank starter kit, eGo 650Mah, ego 1000Mah twist, YJ Lavatube, and my latest a Smoktech Telescope. All chinese made products. Along the way all of these things have been tools to my learning pathway to what works best for me and I feel I would not have learned as much along the way if I had gone straight to being a Provari owner. My next PV purchase will be a Provari, not just because people 'say' its the best, but because I feel I've learned enough about it to truly appreciate it. Like life, to truly enjoy something there needs to be a variety of it.

China products are very inconsistent, some poor quality, some more than others. They have gotten me to where I am today. But I also feel it's not fair when people put down these manufacturing quality control issues, especially when it has always been this way with many products before vaping was around. They do get worked out over time, not perfected, but made better. This are things that also make us better.

Something we ALL need to consider and ask ourselves, WHERE would the vaping community be without these Chinese products?

The other reason is that there are many of us who are not doing well in this economy and I mean to help them get the job done as cheaply, as effectively as possible. I consider it a pretty good mission at the end of the day.

Which is a valid concern for many.

The reason I don't recommend Volts to people is because they may not be sufficient to help some of the more hardcore smokers. If they use them that hard the multiple chargings per day leads to an early death of the battery (since all brands of lithium ion batteries were found to uniformly lose 30% capacity after 300 full discharges and full recharges according to Battery University.com the lower the capacity in the first place only exacerbates this problem). For the price, and what you could get for the same money (Twist?) the Volt is not the best first move IMO for the majority of first time vapers. Is the Volt a piece of junk? Not really, for its size it's very impressive what it can do. I just wish they were cheaper. Less should be less, not more. The Volt doesn't fit into my mission.

Could they be cheaper than $13, I suppose so. They do carry a 3 month warranty that SI stands behind though. $26 for 2 batteries gets you 640 mah. For someone that's more addicted to the habit and actions of smoking than to the nicotine itself, it's a safe choice. There are also people that are overwhelmed with options and not looking to learn what volts, ohms, and watts are going to do and which dual coil thingamajigger at what ohm rating is going to work best on their device. For some of my own converts, even trying to explain the eGo-like X2 with a clearo (stardust that's 808 threaded) was far too complicated. They're coming from a flick your bic and inhale simpleness and won't get over the form or fiddle factor.

I see you are part of the Zenation. I am not a big fan of the Zenesis for the price, and my buddy Estarra (RockinRobbieSF here on ECF) got one and HATES it. I'm a clearomizer guy which works for me, and cheap. That said, I'm not telling people not to get zen'd up though I do recommend that one make their own for a few bucks (video how is in my blog) and try before they wait 6 months and spend $150 only to hate it like Estarra did.

I love this thing. This is the one that finally... after a year of vaping made me throw my "emergency pack" of remaining cigs on the bonfire and say goodbye. Filler and wick flavors always bothered me a bit. I vaped through it and was satisfied and enjoyed vaping, but with the Zenesis... I LOVE vaping. I can sit and vape my face off for a few hours and stay interested in the flavor. That being said, it does take someone willing to learn the device, learn how to vape on the device, and work through that learning curve. Once it's set up properly, you really don't have to touch anything other than the occasional cleaning of the button and rinse out of the tank from a particularly potent juice. There's drawbacks to everything. I can't lay it on its side for instance, but I can spend $20 a year (or much less if I don't mess it up) to keep me in wick and coils, I have the cleanest flavor available, and a lifetime warranty. It's a love it or hate it device, but the good news is that if you hate it, you can post in the HOH thread and someone will take it off your hands pretty quickly. (As long as you're not trying to scalp someone).

Good points made. I guess I look at the situation like this: there are two extremes in the quality of vaping hardware.

Lower quality, but more affordable for the masses. Consistancy, durability, quality fit/finish of manufactured parts, repairability, and/or customer service may be lacking or totally inexistant in one or more of these categories. Can be an considered an affordable entry level device for beginners or intermediate users. Buyers should be aware of what their money will get them.

Higher quality, more expensive devices. Markedly improved consistancy, durability, quality/finish of parts, rapairability, and customer service in most if not all categories. You more likely get what you pay for.

--
I don't recommend a Provari for everyone. I always consider where in the vaping experience each individual is, what they have used before and what are they using now, what are they looking for, and what can they reasonably afford.

I recommend Smokeless Image to beginners who insist that their first device look like a cigarette. That's where I was when I started, so I can understand that perspective. Smokeless Image focuses on beginner and intermediate vapors. Their company representative has repeatedly stated that the company has no interest in offering a variable voltage device like the Twist because it would be incompatable with their current line of hardware. Offering one would only serve to confuse those beginners who have no idea about oHms and resistances, voltage and watts, etc. All of Smokeless Image's hardware is totally compatible with one another, and that in itself is a strong selling point to me. They make it as simple as one can make it for newbies; a one-stop online shop for most of their needs.

Smokeless Image is content with this business philosophy, and their success in the business seems to show that they know a thing or two.

Im wondering how long the Darwin has been out, since variable wattage is really the future of vaping. The Zmax is the first device other than the Darwin "excluding the kick" that has vw built in. If they come out with a new version of the Provari with vw then the community might lose their minds. But I would still be scared to carry a 200 dollar device around with me all the time.

Well, the trick would be to keep it attached to you. Here's a couple of potential solutions:

SerenityGear Leather

I carry either my Provari or BB with me EVERYWHERE. I rocked at the Loverboy, Pat Benetar, and Journey concert a week ago with both my Provari and lanyarded BB.

Everyone has different expectations/needs/wants. There is no "one size fits all"...I think we all can agree to that. I say "viva la difference!" I have a few VV devices...Lavatube, Twist and kGo VV. They are nice...very nice. I like them fine. But I don't really "need" them, and don't use them all that much. I am one of those people who isn't a fan of using an array of different flavors for my juices. I am a rare breed. I don't really care for other flavors other than menthol...just menthol with some koolada and a hint of peppermint. That's it. I DIY my juice and when developing the recipe I use, I was using 3.6volt equipment to "test" it...using standard ohm cartomizers. So, anyway. Got my "perfect flavor" going. But it's gonna work best at a certain range, right? So what is the point of the VV for me? I'm not gonna be hunting for "sweet spots". I know where it is...the only variable for me is what ohm I'm using. So when I'm using a VV device, I'll use a 3ohm cartomizer. Simply because that's the only way I have the excuse to use anything but 3.3 to 3.7 voltage. Which the average eGo type PV has anyway. See my point?

I really enjoy all my stuff...particularly the Go-Go, Volt X2, little Gripper and now the eGo T Mod. REALLY love that eGo T Mod. I do have the option for higher voltage should I want it (up to 4.2 anyway, on a fresh battery) and I love that I can replace/fix anything that might go wrong with it. Today I celebrate one full year smoke free. It's been a long journey and I've many many PVs in all varieties of incarnations. I've tried tanks and clearomizers and have returned (gratefully) to cartomizers....the mega sized ones. Non dual coil (went there, tried that. No thanks.)

Early in the day I like 2ohm eGo Mega SCs on my eGo T Mod...or Elite cartos on my X2 or 2ohm cartos on my L'il Gripper. As the day wears on and I want more OOMPH I'll switch to 1.7ohm on my eGo T Mod at regulated mode. Works for me. BTW...here is what I got myself for my One Year Anniversary. A couple of days ago ...so a bit early. But today I get a new color tube for it. hehehe! I could have gotten a Provari a couple of months ago...when I still had some IRS refund money. But I already knew that it'd be underappreciated by me since I already had a Twist. So there you go. Everyone has their own Sweet Spot with vaping...and if it's good for an individual then that is the perfect system for that individual. At least until the NEXT perfect thing comes along.

Hi nancy!

Also, what happened to your Provari if you don't mind me asking? This is the first time I am hearing of this.

I never said I owned a provari, I said I use to want one, and that I have used one. A friend of mine has it, and having used his, really for me (stressing the ME part here), it is no better than what I have or what I would get from a reo (got to try his reo out also).

As far as the term twisters, just do a ECF search and you will see what I mean, we have been using that word for it since the twist came out.

Naturally because far less people own Provaris than those who own more popular devices, the amount of stories will be far less. Some of these stories are downright despicable. Just sayin'... Maybe get the warranty.

Ahh I stayed up for almost two days straight when I wrote that. You'll have to forgive me. I have to switch from 3rd to first shift for work, my bad. :)

As for Twisters, TBH, I only hang out in the contests and the new members forums. I get most of my info from other places than ECF so I don't feel the need to visit like the Twist model specific forum, etc.

Dead in 1 day:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/provape/281673-my-provari-dead-after-1-day.html

Customer service was able to deal with this issue by phone, without needing repair. "UPDATE - I just wanted everyone to know that my dead ProVari issue was resolved through the great team work of the fine people at ProVape. MonsterKenny assures me that it is very rare, but the spring (while secure) needed to be pulled out a bit."

Here's another guy who put the battery in backwards and got a permanent E4 error. They should have safeguards against that for $250-280 IMO. Is it completely their fault, nah. I'ma let 'em slide (this time):
PROVARI REPAIR ?

"Well i just had a look inside the mini Provari and on either side of the connector there is like a small standoff bridge type of thing which would stop the flat side of the battery from making contact.......unfortunately i had been using one of those small magnets on a flat top battery for another mod....and as well as not looking at what battery i was using...i had put the magnet on the bottom of the battery.....so when inserted it was making the connection. Ive just cleaned the contacts and tried other batteries and as soon as i press the button im getting the E4 error code 1.....think its fooked"

This issue was caused by user error. User not only puts a battery in backwards, but the battery had a magnet on it bypassing the mechanical safety feature that Provape builds into the Provari to prevent loading a battery backwards. Two user errors, if we want to be counting. Thank goodness the Provari's safety circuits still caused it to fail to fire and tried to tell the user he did something stupid by providing the error code.

Provape specifically warns not to use magnets. "The ProVari operates on a single battery. Never stack two batteries or use batteries that are not recommended for use in the ProVari. Never use magnets on your batteries. This is very dangerous." - Provape.

User resolves the issue himself. "I've fixed it! Goodness knows how, I've just removed the plastic window and replaced it and it's started working again, although I wouldn't recommend removing the window, those screws are a bit pesky! I'm a happy, happy bunny."

"Well I got my new batteries + extension and after rinsing it with 91% alcohol and letting it sit for a couple days it's been working fine. I believe it may have been some sort of sweat from the fresh adhesive or just moisture from the extreme heat I was working in for the 2 days before it acted strange. ProVape was willing to honor a warranty on the upgrade work they did on the device but I was lucky enough to get it resolved without having to send it in." Issue resolved by user, repair not needed.

"Provape emailed me back and said to rinse my Provari out with rubbing alcohol and let it sit overnight to dry,So I did and IT WORKED..I dont know why but it worked..WOW." Customer service resolves issue by email, no need for repair.

Ok, this guy was an extremely high voltage vapor and doing frequent dry burns on low resistance atty's. He was getting error codes and when the Provari did work it was not putting out the set voltage. It was sent in to Provape for repair. It was repaired and sent back to the user in one day. And with a new replacement battery to boot. Great customer service.

"Tested it out and it works just fine! So anyways.. was told it was sent out the same day they received it. They also replaced the battery with a new one as well since the battery that was in it was damaged a little or something as the bottom of it was bowed out ward.

Great customer service as everyone mentions! Will order another so this time i'll have a backup just encase! hehe.

P.S. Was told to not do dry burns on the unit as its too hard on the booster chip."

"I got one of the batteries to work. I cleaned the nipple on it and it is making contact now! Awesome. I guess I need to get some new batts nipples must be getting worn out. But the Provari is now fireing great!"

User resolved issue himself. Older batteries, which the user was using in his new Provari, can build up a thin layer of corrosion on the positive end (nipple tips). Provape recommends in their user's guide to use alcohol to wipe battery contacts inside the Provari and the battery ends themselves on a weekly maintance schedule.

Some of these stories are downright despicable. Just sayin'... Maybe get the warranty.

Of the seven links that you provided, only two of those required the Provari's to be sent in for repair.

One of those was definitely caused by user error by putting the battery in backwards, and because he also had a magnet on the battery, it bypassed the Provari's built-in mechanical protection. Still, the protection circuits intentionally prevented the unit from firing, so I'd say the Provari did what it was intended to do in an unsafe situation.

The other one requiring onsite repair was completed in one day, and a defective battery was replaced. Was that Provape's fault? I don't see how, and one day repair service is pretty remarkable if you ask me.:thumb:

The other five cases were either solved by the users by themselves (or advice from forum members) or by Provape's customer service by phone or email. One service call was actually done on a Sunday night.

So please explain to me how "Some of these stories are downright despicable." :pop:

The examples that you provided seem to show me that most of the issues were user errors, and the two that required onsite servicing were done extremely expediantly and to the satisfaction of the customer. Maybe that is where some of expense of a Provari goes. As the saying goes, you don't get something for nothing.

You guys need to take this to a pm, seriously, one of you is anti provari, and one is a defender of its name. I am the op of this thread and am not liking where it is heading. Can a mod please close/lock it please?
There is not a need to hunt for things wrong with something that alot of people like because you are against it. Just dont buy it yourself, dont try to make fans of it angry by attacking it constantly.
There is also not a need for a defense so determined to contradict the person attacking the provari in the first place.
Close thread please, its turning into more of an anti/pro provari thread.

I will appologize to the original poster for the direction that this thread went. I admit that at times I feel the need to respond to statements that are incorrect and can be easily proven to be so. ShogaNinja does this all the time. I felt the need to call out his false accusations because I fear that some unknowing readers will take everything that he says to heart, since he promotes himself as an expert with his vaping guide. So to any readers that were put off by anything on my part, I'm sorry. I'm finished.

No worries man, I am new to vaping myself, but I dont take any one persons opinion as being right. Weither people are right or wrong is irrelevant, vaping is all about your personal experience "so I have been told so far" there is no need to apologize man, I just want the thread to be closed before it turns into something ugly, up until the anti provari rants and defends it has been very objective views on certain pvs, and it has been a pleasure to read for sure.

I dont know exactly why certain people hate the expensive mods so much, and speak out against them so passionately. But I can semi understand where they are comming from. But if 1 persons opinion made things true, like persay if 1 man could vote and get someone put into the presidency, we would all be screwed.

I was within a mouse click of buying the Lambo when I just said to myself ,"Self, get the ProVari, you know it is what you want". It still wasn't easy as money is a little tight but I have zero buyer's remorse. Disclaimer: No bills have gone unpaid nor children and pets gone unfed as a result of my purchase : End disclaimer[/QUOTE]

God, I wish I had my "self quoter" worked this well. I half said this to "self" but ended up buying myself and my boyfriend LT v2's because money is really tight and one of them is already dead and I just spent over $400 on two Provari's. Count yourself lucky and never change how you make decisions. LOL (kinda) :(

Had to add this.... Atleast the LT 2 has gotten me 5 weeks today without an analog.

hey jfdibutton, the site im about to buy my lambo from "1-2 months from now" has a 6th month warranty, also comes with panasonic batteries and charger for 90 bucks. Its basically a steal. 90 bucks 6 month warranty for lambo, 180 bucks "for black" provari with 1 year warranty. One thing people dont know, is the Lambo has ohm and battery check on top of the other features. Its a full feature mod. I will probably end up just ordering the Lambo tube and buying my own batteries though, the panasonics it comes with are 3.6v 3100 mah, they arent IMR.

hey i get what ur saying here Magic of Light
-ya sure provari is great, no $$ tho to blow on that 150-250 (w/ kit)
-50$ lavatube is what ur looking @ but ur worried about DCC on the PWM
-and finally , no you dont want another person posting telling you to get a dam twist b/c those are ur on the go ecigs and u prob alrdy have one
-worried about voltage drop and "china" made lava tube

did i get all those right??

heres what i think and i tell you why (keeping in mind the previous bullet points)

*get the young june lava tube. ill post a link where for 49$ u can get a FULL kit w/ a nova tank.
*dont worry about airy draws, the unit is just ur power sorce, ur juice/tank/carto/atty will be what gives u diff draws
* as for the PWM, its not THAT bad. ya they run hotter then what u set, but its not super crazy to the point where 3v seems like 4.5v. its more of a .2-.6v hotter feeling, SOMETIMES. i really dont think ur gonna have ANY probs running ur DCC where your going to like them.
*also the site im gonna post has a 30day money back guarentee, if u hate it - return it, suck it up and save up for provari
*also go watch Pbasardo's review/comparison of the Lrider and young june lava tubes. hell give stats for DCC and how he thinks it feels. i havent watched it in about a month but if i remember correct he had no prob w DCC. in FACT he loved the young june LT so much he took it on his fishing trip and vaped it the whole vacation. (its in the vid, watch the long version not the short one)

buy the LT, you wont be dissapointed and if u are, send it back get ur $ back. vape on!

ps. stop telling this guy to buy a twist when he says he has one for on the go!
