About to rage on local vape Shop

Earlier today I went into one of the local vape shops that I already had a bad experience with in buying a really poor Maraxus mod clone a few months ago. The Maraxus clone they sold me would not even fire 80% of the time. Nor was there anyway to take apart the firing switch. After a few minutes of searching Google I was able to find the crappy no name manufacturer on Alibaba.

I threw that mod into the dumpster and didn't say anything else about it. I knew that the place I bought it from was ran by noobs just starting out and maybe they were not educated enough to know where to get good clones from.

This was over 3 months ago.


Today I went into the same store around closing time just to buy a bottle of Illuminati Lion and for some dumb reason I bought a 4nine mod clone while I was there. I even said to the guy working the vape shop "Is Infinite the maker of this 4Nine clone ?", and he said "yes".

Well, I get home with it and sit my TOBH Atty on it and it will fire 1 out of 5 presses on the switch. Then i decided to put my kayfun Lite + on it and it would fire just as soon as it was screwed on. It was constantly firing without me holding the switch! This is totally [moderated] up!

After this happened I decided to look at my receipt and read "Joylites 4nine mod: $70.25 " The store worker lied to me by saying it was an Infinite clone. This Joylites manufacturer is so unknown that the only thing you will find in Google search is the direct link to their crappy products on Alibaba.

Tomorrow they are going to have a [moderated] storm when I walk in there because they are not going to get away with selling me a $12 piece of [moderated] for $70. Apparently they think I am a cave man and I can not ruin them by exposing them on the internet.

Yup I know the feeling. I've got burned a couple times at my local B&M too. I'm lucky that the owner of the B&M let me do an exchange for the crappy atty but I just exchanged it for another crappy atty. I learned my lesson and only buy kanthal and rebuildable stuff there from now on. I go to vaperoyalty.com for mods now cause at least you know you're getting a higher quality clone like infinite or HCigar, and it only takes a couple days to ship.

$70 for a 4nine... Damn!!! You should really check out vaperoyalty, I think they got those for $40. Good luck on your next mod purchase

No offense meant here... A mechanical mod is a pretty simple thing... even if the switch was press fit there would be ways to get it apart and see what would need to be done to get it working... throwing it away makes little to no sense.

As for the 4nine, youtube would probably help you.

With the 4nine I'm gonna say user error. It's about the simplest mechanical out there, and the hybrid top cap means that one has to be very careful with atties. If the positive pin doesn't stick out enough you'll short the mod.

I agree with Ken (as I have a tendency to do)
99% of the problems with the 4nine are user error. There's nothing not to work. The atty touches the positive side of the batter and the switch touches the negative side of the battery. Unless it's carved from wood, it will work! Assuming, of course, you made sure your 510 sticks out far enough to make a clean connection with the battery and your switch can make contact with the negative side of the battery. Some batteries have too much wrapper on the negative side to work right with a 4nine. Maybe you need an extra battery spacer on the negative side. Do the 2 switch pieces repel from each other?
$70 for a clone in a b&m is kinda high, but not absurd. And how did you come to the conclusion that so and so made it? Pictures on the internet? That seems kinda hard.

before you go off on 'em, take it back in and let them fiddle with it...then relate your story of the dumpster one..let them make it right or give you new merch in trade. Ours is pretty good about that..

now the first one we went to wasn't...I go by my twice shame on me...kinda deal.

I would go back and give them a chance to make it right and if they dont simply dont go back. I have a local B&M that are great people but have thier products marked way up, I havent been back since and will just order anything I need online.

Best bet - you should return to Ego/Cleros for a while.
You have, in less than 2 paragraphs - proven - you do not have the knowledge to be fooling with Mods and the Vape Shop is your excuse.

My Son had a No firing Maraxus.(I also use one) I fixed his for him.
I have a $12 No Name 4Nine and it is one fantastic Mod. Helps to understand how to properly set them up. In fact, I just ordered another.
I can tell you, once you get over the Blame others routine and learn to tweak, nothing will stop you from enjoying your equipment.

Everyone loves to hate on b&ms.... Yet everyone also loves to walk into them and make bad decisions. So who's fault is it? You see a crappy clone in a store you already had a bad experience with and bought it anyway? How is the shop supposed to know they did something wrong if u keep going back and buying stuff? These internet posts won't stop them from doing anything. If you don't like the shop stop giving them your money, or make them make good on these cheap crappy clones you keep buying from them...

You are giving up too quickly. As someone said, mech mods are VERY VERY simple things, which is why I love them. Even I can fix them, and that's saying more than you can imagine. With a mech mod, there is always a fix. The newer Maraxus clones are supposed to have problems with the button independently of where they're bought. Look online; there are many ways to fix the issue. The 4Nine idk about, but they're a popular mod, and there are plenty of places online, including right here, where folks will help you figure it out.

So don't toss the poor wee mod. It's cute. It's shiny and pretty. It's never done anyone any harm lol! Take a deeeeep breath. research, or go back to the store, and let them know your problem.

EDIT: It might not be a mod issue at all. It could be an atty issue. I had a Helios rda where the pin was recessed for some reason, and wasn't making contact. I had to knock the thing down, and it's working fine.

I'm pretty sure I own and have used enough mech mods to know the difference between one that works and one that doesn't. But thanks for your completely hilarious and useless info. Apparently I'm a buffoon that doesn't know anything.

If a mod has to be modified by the end user by either buying a new switch,drilling holes into it (for venting purposes),sanding down parts, sprinkling magic fairy dust on it in order to get it to function properly then it should not be sold by the manufacturer to begin with and definitely not sold in a vape shop.

After spending hours of tinkering with my defective 4nine clone I have found out what the problem is. It's really quite simple. The mod tube is too short. It needs to be about 4 millimeters longer. It doesn't auto fire when using flat top 18650s but there is still very little throw on the switch. If I try using my AW button top 18650s it will instantly fire every time and there won't be any throw in the switch at all. I have figured out a way to make it work but it looks ridiculous and I should not have to do this to begin with. If I loosen any part of the mod and place a rubber O-ring over the base of the threads and use it as a spacer to increase the length of the mod it will work with my button top batteries without auto firing. I guess I'll keep the mod but I am definitely not happy with it nor will i be using it often. Total waste of 70 bucks.

I have never heard anyone claim their 4nine was only 75mm

I have however heard many people complain about auto firing and battery length issues. This also goes for the original in the hands of someone unfamiliar with the design and restrictions.

Take your equipment to the shop where you purchased it and deal with it.

I don't buy anything from a vape shop without doing a thorough inspection of the piece and ask as many questions as I need before paying them. Being able to look at and hold stuff first is one of the few advantages b&m's have over online vendors. Hope they get you straight.

So it's the batteries fault for being too long? I should return all of my batteries that work perfectly in every other mod I own just to get "shorter" batteries that will fit in this one mod. Good plan.

I've got an original 4 Nine and it comes with a couple of tubes that screw together for different battery sizes. Are you sure you got all of them? If your mod is short you may be missing one, or have an incorrect one (for an 18650) attached.

I only want to rage on my local B&M because of my own lack of checking when they sold me a Stingray X clone for $50 that I could have bought for only $26 online but ultimately it was my fault for not checking online prices. But the next shop we went to sold us a VTR at the same price as online prices so it made up for the mistake in my mind. Story be that I need to do my proper homework before buying from B&M shops

There is only one vape shop that I truly believe is overpriced but that has my best interest at heart.
